Formerly it was an old cart shed used for storing the carts over the winter period and is thought to be 250-300 years old. It is set near a Roman road with an old hill fort nearby. The Cart Shed has been thoughtfully furnished throughout with many hand-crafted items adorning the property. The cottage has been lovingly renovated over a period of time by the current owners who are as keen on the exterior appearance as the interior, with landscaped grounds which guests are free to wander and enjoy. The owners, who live next door, have a smallholding with a variety of animals including pigs, geese, chickens and bees, as well as the owners’ two friendly dogs that may want to greet you. The local restaurant and pub is within walking distance.
The location is not only ideal for exploring Herefordshire but also Gloucestershire, Monmouthshire, the Brecon Beacons and Shropshire. There are numerous cider museums and working farms to visit as well as the Black and White Village Trail which takes in some of the most beautiful villages in the UK. Hereford Cathedral is home to the Hereford Mappa Mundi which is one of the world’s medieval treasures. There are National Trust properties including Berrington Hall, Croft Castle and The Weir Garden. The Forest of Dean is within easy reach with Go Ape, walks and cycle trails. Bike hire is available in nearby Kington, canoeing and water activities on the River Wye, and golf can also be found nearby.
