Nestled in a stunning conservation area, the holiday property is a short walk to the historic Newtown Creek, and set in woodlands, it offers direct access onto walk ways. The farmhouse was originally farm cottages to Hamstead Grange and parts of the property are believed to date back to Tudor times, when the grange was owned by the Monks of Quarr Abbey on the island.
Seashore and cliff walks can be found along the coastal paths and outdoor pursuits are well catered for including horse riding, fishing, cycling, paragliding, watersports and golf. There are numerous attractions to discover for all ages on this beautiful sunny island. The Needles landmark attraction is a must see and is a short distance away to the west, with its chairlift, amusement park, boat rides, lighthouse and the coloured sands of Alum Bay. Shanklin and its surrounding area offer a plethora of captivating sights and engaging activities for visitors to explore. In Shanklin itself, one can start by strolling along the picturesque Shanklin Chine, a stunning gorge with lush vegetation, cascading waterfalls, and enchanting pathways. The Old Village is another must-visit, with its charming thatched-roof cottages, quaint shops, and cosy tearooms exuding a delightful ambience. A visit to Shanklin Beach is a must, with its golden sands stretching along the coastline, or the nearby Sandown Bay also offers opportunities for water sports such as kayaking or paddleboarding.

This quaint holiday home, as its name suggests, was the former blacksmiths shop which resides beside the village green. The green is a lovely place to sit, relax, take a breath and admire the beautiful surroundings of the unspoilt village of Shorwell (pronounced ’shorrel’ by many resident islanders), which was named after the local spring - The Shor Well. This was one of Queen Victoria’s favourite places to visit when she was on the island holidaying at her residence Osborne House. The village is centred around its historic church, St Peters, which dates back to the 12th century.

The surrounding parish is also home to a trio of impressive manor houses - Northcourt, Westcourt and Wolverton Manor. Today, the village stands in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is at the centre of a network of footpaths, bridleways and cycle routes to explore and enjoy. The routes are scattered with lovely thatched cottages, and the village also has an 18th-century country pub and a small local shop and post office.

There are plenty of activities to keep you busy on the island, including walking, cycling and swimming at any of the glorious beaches are plentiful. You can even try your hand at paragliding if you are feeling adventurous! Toad Hall is a deceptively spacious yachtsman’s cottage inside the picturesque Island Harbour Marina. This comfortably furnished and well-equipped family holiday home is very easy to reach, being only 3 miles from either the East Cowes or Fishbourne ferry terminals. Right on the marina is The Breeze bar and restaurant which is only 5 minutes’ walk from the house. Not only does The Breeze pride itself on its home cooked meals, it also has a large children’s play area. Also inside the marina, the shop at Richardson’s Boat Yard sells basic groceries and sweets as well as hot and cold drinks.

Toad Hall is arranged over 3 floors. Downstairs the comfortable sitting room has a gas burning stove, TV, a selection of games, toys, books and DVDs. On the ground floor there is a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with both bath and electric shower. On the same floor the kitchen/diner is equipped with a gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher and microwave. The utility room has a washing machine and a freezer. On the first floor there is a further double bedroom with its own bathroom with bath and electric shower. A z-bed for an additional child is available. Outside, to the back of the property there is a small enclosed garden with table and chairs, an ideal spot for a drink or eating outdoors. Gas central heating, gas, electricity, towels, bed linen and Wi-Fi are all included. There is a large car park 1-minute from the house which all residents use after loading and unloading at the house. The nearby pond and marina are unfenced. Toad Hall is a non-smoking house. Well behaved dogs are very welcome.

Island Harbour is an ideal location for exploring the Island. The renowned Folly Inn is about a mile’s walk up the river and Queen Victoria’s church at Whippingham is slightly beyond that. A path running along the river in the other direction is ideal for both cyclists and walkers going to Newport for its choice of shops, pubs and restaurants. Other places on the island such as Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle are easily accessible by car.
