The bright lights of Blackpool are just 4 miles away and can be reached on foot following the promenade along the seafront. Here you’ll find its many attractions including, Blackpool Tower, Pleasure Beach and Blackpool Zoo. Just a few miles further will take you to the rolling sand dunes of Lytham St Anne’s and the cosmopolitan Lytham which holds annual events such as The Proms and a kite festival. Venture inland and you’ll find the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, known for its picturesque country villages, wonderful walking and friendly local pubs. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is also within easy reach as is the Lake District National Park.

The Beacon Fell Country Park consists of 271 acres of woodland, moorland and farmland. The Beacon Fell summit is 873 feet above sea level and offers spectacular views of the Forest of Bowland and Morecambe Bay. On a clear day it is even possible to see the Isle of Man. The Forest of Bowland is 23 miles away, here you will find mountain bike trail at Gisburn Forest, with green, blue, red and black routes available. Glide easily along the mellow trail by Bottoms Beck, twist and shout through Park Wood, dance with your bike down Hully Gully or grit your teeth and rush down the Bigfoot slab, everyone should find something that will make them smile.

The world renowned Tolkein Trail starts and ends in nearby Hurst Green, meaning literary enthusiasts can discover the Ribble landscape that may have inspired J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. A dog friendly pub serving food is around a 10-minute walk from the cottage. In the Ribble valley you can explore Clitheroe Castle Museum, former the Steward’s House, a Grade II listed building that was built in the 18th century and in the small town of Longridge just 8 miles away you’ll find a selection of supermarkets, cafés, takeaways, pubs serving food and even a quaint cinema.

For those wishing to venture further afield, both the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks can be reached in around an hour, or the beautiful Fylde Coast and sand dunes of Lytham St Annes, can be reached within a 30-minute drive. Blackpool is 20 miles away with the Sandcastle Waterpark, the UK’s largest Indoor Waterpark with more than 18 fantastic slides and attractions in a tropical 84 degree climate and Blackpool Pleasure Beach where you can find one of the UK’s tallest fastest roller coasters. Whether you spend your time relaxing in the hot tub, or exploring the beautiful countryside and wealth of attractions, Adamsons Barn makes a fantastic base. Beach 20 miles. Cleveleys seafront is home to the Mythic Coast Artwork trail, where striking giant sculptures bring to life ’The Sea Swallow’ story. The vast beach is made up of sand and shingle, and you’ll find traditional past times of sandcastle building, and kite flying are as popular as ever. A few miles inland is the neighbouring village of Thornton, where you’ll find more shops, pubs and restaurants together with an 18th Century windmill and Wyre Estuary Country Park. The bright lights of Blackpool, Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Blackpool Tower are just 4 miles round the coast, and a few miles further you’ll reach the beautiful sandy beaches of St Annes and, wonderfully cosmopolitan, Lytham. Offering truly fantastic far reaching countryside views, Wesley Old Hall Annexe can be found nestled in a rural location in the small Lancashire hamlet of Old Clough. The Lancashire mill town of Bacup is around a 2-mile drive, and here you’ll find a comprehensive range of shops and amenities. Located on the Lancashire/Yorkshire boundary, it’s also home to Stubbylee Park which has an outdoor gym, tennis courts and an off road cycling ‘pump track’. Rawtenstall is around a 15-minute drive and boasts cobbled streets, a thriving market and local independent businesses. It has one of the best dry ski slopes in England and is also the northern point of the heritage East Lancs Railway.
The mountain bike trails of Lee and Cragg Quarry can be picked up just outside Bacup, and the surrounding countryside including the nearby Rossendale Valley is popular with walkers and hikers. Other local attractions include The Whitaker Art Gallery, the ’Singing Ringing Tree’ and the ’Halo’, Burnley and Rossendale’s panopticons, and the National Trust’s Gawthorpe Hall. Finally, the city of Manchester is around a 40-minute drive or a 30-minute direct train from Walsden or Todmorden train stations.
