This wonderful area offers an array of activities, walks over the fells and through endless green fields with a wide variety of local pubs serving food to satisfy a weary walkers belly. The winding country lanes take you through the Ribble Valley, Trough of Bowland and onto the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District and Fylde Coast making this a mecca for cyclists and walkers of all abilities. Nearby Gisburn Forest has an abundance of walking and cycling routes as well as some fantastic fishing on the stocks reservoir that surrounds it. A direct train service will also take you to neighbouring St Annes in 10 minutes where you’ll find a huge beautiful sandy beach, and then in 20 minutes you’ll reach Blackpool. R. Tolkien wrote much of the Lord of the Rings trilogy whilst staying at Stonyhurst College.
    The area is also perfect as a base for cyclists with cycle trails through the woods up onto Longridge Fell and beyond.
