Whitby is a fantastic destination for holidaymakers with the steam train departing throughout the summer on its way to Grosmont and Goathland – those famous villages used in the TV series ‘Heartbeat’. Also, Whitby boasts a colourful harbour, 3 miles of sandy beach, the 12th century Abbey ruins and St Marys Church. The town also hosts many festivals throughout the year with folk weekends, 60’s music festivals and Goth weekends, bringing guests from far and wide. Mortar Barn is the ideal place for exploring both the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire. Sea Haven is a large spacious bungalow situated at Hunmanby Gap just over 3 miles from the popular seaside resort of Filey. The owner has taken great care in providing a fantastic holiday home for families to enjoy. The large open plan living and kitchen area has floor to ceiling patio doors taking advantage of the magnificent sea views and leading out onto a decked seating area and lawn. There’s a cosy dual sided wood burner separating the kitchen and the living/dining area. The kitchen has all the mod-cons expected of a house of this standard as well as a utility area. There are gardens to the front and the rear which are completely enclosed. For guests taking their four-legged friends, a dog crate is also provided.
A 2-minute walk and you are on a stunning vast beach that stretches for over 3 miles to Filey and beyond. It’s a beach that never looks busy as it’s so wide and has lots of space for everybody. Great for the children or walking the dogs, or watching the horse riders galloping through the waves in the early morning. There is an excellent café that serves the beach guests and provides meals and drinks as well as ice creams. Filey is a very traditional seaside resort, not quite as busy as its neighbour Scarborough however it has a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Filey is also the end of the Cleveland Way walk so you can enjoy a walk along the cliff tops to Scarborough following part of this very famous 109 mile trail. The seaside resorts of Scarborough and Bridlington are just a short drive away. Both resorts are very popular holiday destinations and worth a visit during your stay.
The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs is just a short drive where you can see the puffins and other migrating birds from the viewing points on the cliff tops. Yorkshire is famous for its stately homes and Sewerby Hall, Burton Agnes Hall, Sledmere House and the wonderful Castle Howard are just a short drive. Sea Haven is not far from the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds made famous by the artist David Hockney, who often paints the rolling hills of the Wolds. Beach 70 yards. The open plan living space on the first floor features a brand new, fully fitted kitchen with Bosch appliances, as well as a dining area and living area. Here you will also find the piano used by previous owners to rehearse with the local choir. Outside, the garden has been beautifully landscaped to create two sitting areas at either side of the house so you can follow the sun all day. There is a garage, perfect for storing your bikes.
The pièce de résistance is the original well, which has been uncovered and fitted with lights so you can see 100 feet down to the bottom at night, a truly unique feature. The pretty village of Starbotton is in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with a cluster of stone built, chocolate box cottages surrounding the friendly local pub, a mere 2 minutes’ walk away. The Fox and Hounds is the heart of the local community, offering high quality, hearty dining, with well-kept local ales in a relaxed, dog friendly atmosphere. The area is ideally located for exploring by car, walking and cycling.
There are many walks right from your very doorstep including the Dales Way, accessed by a connecting footpath leading down to the River Wharfe, which is just 300 yards away. The area is also a mecca for cyclists with the Tour De Yorkshire route having run through locally. Other country pursuits such as fishing, rock climbing and even pony trekking are all available nearby. The popular town of Grassington is just a 15-minute drive away and plays host to events all year round including a Summer Arts Festival with famed singers, presenters, poets and authors, and a winter Dickensian Festival to capture the spirit of Christmas.

Rosary House is a spacious stone farmhouse which was built in 1750 and is located in the quaint village of Irton, 4 miles from the glorious golden Cayton Bay, with the larger coastal destinations of Scarborough and Filey also within a 15-minute drive. If you would like to venture a little further, Whitby is only a 40-minute drive, or you can experience an old-fashioned steam train ride from Pickering to Whitby. You can hop on the train to the historical city of York for a day trip and The North York Moors are right on your doorstep for great walking routes. The family sized dining room is flooded with natural light from the French doors that lead out into the quaint, enclosed cottage garden. Although the property has been renovated throughout this room retains an original brick feature wall. The country style kitchen is superb and offers all the facilities required of a modern holiday home. The chef in the group will delighted at the high specification and equipment on offer to them and there is enough room that everyone can help with the washing up! Wind your way up the cottage staircase to the spacious first floor where you will find three beautifully presented bedrooms and the house bathroom. The master bedroom offers a king size bed and en-suite shower room.

Step outside and Ashley Cottage continues to impress. From the kitchen, there is access to the side patio where you can watch the world go by and enjoy a morning coffee. To the rear is the enclosed garden with a neatly trimmed lawn surrounded by borders packed with traditional varieties of plants and flowers. There is additional seating on the patio which is the ideal place to enjoy a BBQ on an evening.

The village of Seaton Ross offers many local services including a village shop and a delightful pub, both equal distances from the cottage. At the foothills of the Wolds, the cottage is in a perfect position to explore the beautiful countryside, with a place to lock your bike should you want to do this on two wheels. You are a short drive away from the market towns of Pocklington and Market Weighton. Both offer a plethora of restaurants, independent shops, tea rooms and supermarkets. A day in Beverley or York should not be missed and Ashley Cottage also provides a great base from which to enjoy the stunning East Yorkshire Coastline.

Aptly named, Seascape enjoys lovely sea views. Stepping inside, you are sure to feel delighted as the owner has lovingly restored this mid-terraced property, making it fresh, welcoming and bright. The living room is at the front, making the most of the views, and the kitchen has a dining area, where you can enjoy meals together. Upstairs are two bedrooms (a double and twin), as well as a beautiful modern bathroom.

The village of Skinningrove is undiscovered by most tourists, and is peaceful all year round. It is a quaint little bay, with neighbouring Cattersty Sands just a short walk away. This is a perfect choice for those looking for a tranquil beach holiday away from the crowds. The village is mostly inhabited by locals, with a little café, pub as well as a fish and chip shop.

There is lots to see and do for the whole family in the area, and this is also a wonderful choice as a romantic getaway for couples. Your dog is welcome to join you, and will be in heaven with the fabulous walks you can enjoy together.

This seafaring town has a fascinating history, with the abbey overlooking the cobbled streets, independent shops and quirky cafés. Visit the museums, ride a boat out of the harbour or simply take in the sights and enjoy award-winning locally caught fish and chips.

The North York Moors National Park is also on the doorstep, with ancient forests, miles of heather-clad hills and valleys, and lovely villages and walking trails. The many local events include Staithes’ art festival, Saltburn’s food festival, and Whitby’s regatta as well as the famous Goth Weekend. The big event on Skinningrove’s calendar is Bonfire Night in November, when residents build a huge wooden sculpture on the seafront, with a different theme each year, which is set alight after a spectacular firework show.
