Within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, East Ayton is a village just a few minutes’ drive from the seafront at Scarborough. The village has all the amenities you could wish for with a post office, shop, garage and local pub as well as an excellent fish restaurant. The cottage is just off the main street on the lane leading further into the National Park and towards Hackness. This property is an ideal place for the walkers or cyclists amongst you, with great trails right on your doorstep. From the large riverside orchard garden there are open views across the valley to the castle that dates back to 1390. Cycling is also very popular in the area as this forms part of the Tour de Yorkshire route. The Dalby Forest is close by with cycle trails for all abilities and home to the World Cup Trail, a challenging 4 mile route, or for beginners, there are plenty more leisurely routes. The Dreamer’s Hut is named after ’The Hawnby Dreamers’ - three local shepherds who in the mid-1700s, fell asleep whilst working in the fields on a hot day in the adjacent valley of Ladhill Ghyll, of which the hut overlooks. The shepherds awoke to discover they had each had the same vivid dream of spiritual awakening and being called to change their lives for the better. The three subsequently walked to Newcastle to hear the preaching of the famous John Wesley and converted to Methodism, bringing this faith back to Hawnby. The area is a delight for walkers and cyclists alike, with an abundance of routes to choose from that take in the breathtaking scenery that can be found in all directions. Enjoy a countryside walk, right from your doorstep, down into nearby Staithes and joining onto the Cleveland Way as it snakes across cliff tops and down into hidden coves and bays. Staithes is popular with tourists and has a number of traditional pubs, a coffee shop and even its own independent art gallery. It has a fascinating history of pirates and smugglers, as well as links to Captain Cook who worked here as a child. Nearby Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a fabulous up and coming holiday destination with plenty of places to eat and drink as well as a pier, and is well known in the area as a surfer’s paradise with a number of schools for those wanting to give it a try. The cottage itself many years ago was an old cow shed as the name suggests however the owners have given it the love and attention it deserves with a full renovation and made it a fantastic holiday retreat for couples with no expense meaning visitors are ensured of perfection throughout.
You enter the property into the open plan living/kitchen area. The kitchen is well equipped and well-presented and has all the necessities should you not want to dine out at the many restaurants close by. The living area has a comfortable sofa which is great to snuggle up on in front of the fabulous wood burner on those colder evenings.
