Nestling in the stunning Esk Valley, these holiday properties have been lovingly converted from 200 year old farm buildings and are situated just across the courtyard from the owners’ farmhouse which dates from the 12th century. Converted from a former granary, The Granary (ref W41008) occupies the first floor of a detached barn conversion, with views towards Castleton Rigg. Stylish and delightfully furnished, retaining many original features with a vaulted ceiling, low beams and solid oak floors. The Carthouse (ref W41503) is spacious and occupies the ground floor of the detached barn conversion, whilst The Byre (ref W7733) is an attractive single storey, detached property with a multi-fuel stove in the living room, and offers wonderful views over the dale. They are all tastefully furnished and decorated and offer excellent holiday accommodation. Ideally situated in the beautiful North York Moors National Park, a scenic drive along the country roads takes you to the historic port of Whitby. The area abounds with smugglers coves and quaint fishing villages untouched by the passing years. An excellent base for exploring the surrounding area, with the Yorkshire coast and Heartbeat country both easily accessible. Walking is available direct from the door, with fishing and riding nearby. Castleton is 1 mile away with all amenities including supermarket, bank and post office. A magical part of the world at any time of the year. This imposing Edwardian country house stands in its own garden overlooking sheep grazing the common at Goathland, whilst the views of moors and forest may be enjoyed from the west-facing terrace. Set in the village of Goathland, perhaps better known as Aidensfield from the TV series Heartbeat, in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, it is in an excellent area for walking – the North Yorks Moors steam railway stops at the village station on its journey from Pickering to Grosmont. Horse riding can also be found nearby.
Whitby being only 9 miles away is a picturesque seaport famous for its Captain Cook connections, where the cobbled streets and yards stand in the shadow of the Abbey, overlooking the harbour. The 3 miles of sandy beaches lead to the pretty coastal village of Sandsend. Robin Hood’s Bay (renowned as a bygone smugglers’ haunt), Runswick Bay and Staithes are all worth a visit. Inland, the moors are scattered with villages, many with excellent inns. Goathland itself offers an excellent choice of inns and restaurants, in addition to local shops, post office and cafés. Scarborough 23 miles. York 38 miles. Beach 9 miles. Pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Tucked away in the peaceful village of Middleton this little cottage dates back to the 1750’s, where it was once a tiny farmhouse with its own small allotment that they used for animals and crops. This quaint hideaway still retains many of its original charm, with beamed ceilings and lots of character. With the benefit of your own designated off-road parking bay. Please note that the drive is narrow and may not be suitable for large vehicles. A footpath follows you through the courtyard with a table for two. There is also a bike shed with suitable storage adjacent to the parking area with a seating area too.

Stepping inside you will find the adorable country kitchen, which is compact yet has everything required to create delicious home-made meals to delight your loved one. The kitchen is open plan with the dining area, with a table perfect for two. The living is separate, with a sofa and armchair around the small but mighty “hobbit” stove, that ensures you are snug and toasty after a busy day exploring. Wooden stairs lead you up from the living room to the first floor landing, where you have a beautifully presented kingsize bedroom, with a large wardrobe for all of your belongings.

This is the ideal destination for those who love the great outdoors, with incredible scenic views in the National Park to soak up. There are wonderful woodland walks through Dalby forest nearby, as well as many scenic bays along the coast only a 40 minutes’ drive away. Middleton itself is a small village just on the edge of the market town of Pickering. In Middleton you have a popular pub serving hearty meals, as well as a small tearoom and a local shop. Neighbouring Pickering has a medieval castle as well as a steam train which winds its way from Pickering over the rolling heather, through valleys and hill all the way to Whitby on the coast.

The North York Moors is a haven for walkers with many trails to explore and an abundance of wildlife. Nearby you have Malton, the food capital of Yorkshire, with a market, award-winning restaurants, and a cookery school. With its own village inn just a stone’s throw away serving a warm welcome. For the outdoor enthusiasts, the beautiful Yorkshire Dales opens up around you with walks right from the door. Head into Wensleydale and visit the market town of Leyburn with an array of interesting shops, cafés and pubs. It can be reached via a short two mile walk across open countryside. Close by is Middleham, with its famous castle and horse training stables as well as West Witton, with its award-winning restaurant and onwards towards beautiful Aysgarth Falls and the bustling market town of Hawes. Driving up to Swaledale, visit Reeth and Gunnerside or further up the dale to Muker, enjoying some amazing walks and breathtaking views along the way. Keep an eye on the events calendar as there is always something happening in Whitby from the famous Goth weekends, a regatta, music festivals and a folk week being highlights of a year round calendar. Just south of Staintondale you will find the traditional seaside resort of Scarborough with its busy amusement arcades, a waterpark and sandy beaches. The open air theatre hosts live international acts throughout the summer, and no trip to Scarborough is complete without a stroll around Peasholm Park and the world-famous Peasholm Park Naval Warfare which takes place throughout the summer.
