There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafés and a restaurant, and in 2020 the village was featured on the BBC programme ’Gone Christmas Fishing’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.

Close to both coast and countryside the cottages allow you to take full advantage of the scenic, traditional British seaside town of Filey, while for those who enjoy striding out along rural trails, the North York Moors are on your doorstep. The cottages have an open, shared lawn to the front of the properties, and a well-equipped games room and children’s play area. Filey is a traditional Edwardian seaside town. A perfect place for an active holiday or just to relax. The five mile stretch of sandy beach is protected by the rocky grandeur of Filey Brigg. Surfing, fishing, yachting, golf, walking and bird watching are just a few of the available activities. The Evron Centre provides plentiful entertainment with music, song, dance and theatre on offer. Filey has many restaurants and hostelries providing superb cuisine. Should you wish to travel further afield you will find that Yorkshire glories in one of the finest stretches of coastline in Britain, golden beaches, rocky coves and towering cliffs. Further to the north is Whitby, a picturesque fishing port and inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Moors Railway, 18 miles of preserved railway are both close by, as is Flamingo Land. Shops 3 miles, pub 1 mile.

Set on a little terrace of only four cottages which back onto the River Esk, with gated access to the stepping stones, Esk Cottage dates back to the 1850s and offers a character property in a tranquil location for a relaxing holiday escape.

It was recently extensively refurbished in 2021 to provide modern amenities. There are wooden shutters in several rooms, and you will find adjustable mood and reading lighting in the bedoom, along with a wall mounted Freeview TV.

Egton Bridge is one of the prettiest villages in the North York Moors National Park and is a perfect location for exploring both the North York Moors and the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire ,with the ancient sea port of Whitby just 8 miles and quaint fishing villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hoods Bay just a short drive. Egton Bridge has two pubs, both providing dining, whilst one has recently opened a farmshop in its grounds.

Situated just a mile outside the famous and charming village of Goathland, Tilly’s Cottage has the best of both worlds; easy access to all the area has to offer and peace and quiet however busy it is in the village. The owner has also provided use of two Pendleton electric bikes for guests use - a fun and easier way to explore Goathland, Darnholme, Beck Hole, the ’Roman Road’ and perhaps even Egton.
Tilly’s Cottage is part of Thornhill Farm, a working moorland sheep farm, which is known to go back to at least the early 17th century when it was sold by James I. Tilly’s Cottage itself was part of the Victorian development in the 1860s and retains many of its original features like the low beams, open range fire and ’coffin drop’. This traditionally decorated, peaceful, homely and deceptively large cottage is surrounded by fields and open moorland and is both a wonderful place to relax and a great base for further explorations. One of the first floor bedrooms and the second floor bedroom each have wonderful moorland views.
Known to millions as ’Aidensfield’ from the Yorkshire television series ’Heartbeat’, there is much to recognise in Goathland, and Tilly’s Cottage itself was used many times in the filming. Beyond Goathland lies Whitby with its beautiful harbour, abbey ruins, cliff-top golf, fish and chips and story of Dracula. Both Whitby and the charming town of Pickering can be reached by the steam train from Goathland, which runs alongside one of Thornhill’s fields, enabling guest to take unique close-up pictures of the trains steaming along. This cottage wing adjoins the owner’s home, and set on a working farm within the National Park commanding outstanding views from the front of the house over the surrounding countryside. Well furnished and decorated throughout, it makes an excellent holiday home from which to visit the coast, which is 3 miles away, or tour or walk the National Park. It is an area surrounded by beautiful countryside and is well placed for visits to many other locations both inland and on the east coast. Horse riding locally. Fresh eggs available. These semi-detached farmhouses The Barnhouse (ref W42980) and The Farmhouse (ref W42979) have been carefully co-ordinated throughout and are set within the grounds of the Caravan Club site in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Walk direct from the door over the nearby moors or take a 5-minute stroll into the nearby traditional market town of Hawes. Here you will find a good mix of shops with something for everyone including antiques, traditional country clothing, fashion and gift shops interspersed with tea shops, restaurants and pubs. Alternatively visit the Wensleydale Creamery, famous for its cheese endorsed by Wallace and Gromit or visit the Dales Centre Museum. This 18th-century, stone built, semi-detached holiday cottage is set in the Yorkshire Dales National Park on the edge of the small hamlet of Sedbusk, and enjoys wonderful views over the surrounding countryside from its enclosed south-facing garden – ideal for relaxing in. The market town of Hawes is only 7 miles away and offers shops, pubs, restaurants, tea rooms, banks and a chemist, as well as a traditional British fish and chip restaurant.
