At the south bay you have all the fun of a traditional seaside holiday with arcades as well as many cafés, restaurants, bars and shops to visit. Both bays have lovely, large sandy beaches. There is also Scarborough Castle which stands on the cliff top between the two bays, as well as the casino and the funfair on the seafront.
Peasholm Park is wonderful to discover, you can hire pedalos and rowing boats to go around the lake and see the stunning oriental gardens. Scarborough is famous for its theatres. There is an outdoor theatre which stages concerts by some of music’s big names, and then there is the Stephen Joseph Theatre which is famous for the premieres of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays. The Alpamare waterpark is great for all ages, with its fantastic wave pool and waterslides, as well as a large heated outdoor infinity pool. Keep younger children entertained with the ’splash and play’ area. For adults there is a spa where you can relax and be pampered. The heated outdoor pools are warm enough to enjoy through all of the seasons. Further along the coast you also have Ravenscar, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Bridlington to discover. Harbourside House is a modern, end townhouse, located at the commencement of the Whitehall Landing Development, but within close proximity of the harbour and having pleasant harbour views. There is a children’s playground located behind the property, which will be well suited for families with small children. It has been decorated and furnished to a good standard and is a perfect base for couples and families looking to explore the Yorkshire Coast or the North York Moors area. There is an enclosed garden, patio and raised decking area with harbour views – great for dining al-fresco or just relaxing with a glass of wine. The property also has the luxury of a garage which can be used to store bicycles and a private parking area outside for two cars. A 10-minute walk will bring you into the heart of the town where you will find an abundance of activities and amenities to suit all the family. Whitby has so much to offer all year round and is a very popular place to visit. There are a large selection of pubs, quaint antique and gift shops and famous fish and chip shops. There are also several restaurants that have won many awards for excellent cuisine to suit all tastes. The local tour bus is an excellent way of visiting some of Whitby’s highlights including the stunning Abbey and St. Mary’s Church positioned on the Cliff top where you can enjoy spectacular views over Whitby and out to sea. There are also many events going on all year round including Whitby’s own Regatta, Folk week, music weekends and Goth Weekends which offer something to please everyone. If you would like to travel further afield you can visit many pretty coastal resorts dotted along the coast from Whitby including Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay which are all worth a day out. Whitby is a wonderful historic town with plenty to do for all the family to enjoy. Why not attend one of the many events or festivals such as the Regatta and Goth Weekend, or just stroll through the cobbled streets with its ’jet’ jewellers, independent shops as well as many cafés, restaurants and bars, where you can sample freshly caught seafood and take in the views. For outdoor enthusiasts the Cleveland Way is just a few hundred yards away, where you can turn left for Saltburn and Sandsend or right for Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay. There is also a public golf course close by.

The Whitby coast is ideal for beach lovers and those wanting to take a boat trip out to sea in the hope of spotting a whale, or just wanting to enjoy the long stretch of golden sandy beach. The Victorian town of Scarborough is just to the south, with its Sealife Centre and the popular open air theatre, attracting top musical acts for all ages. Saltburn and Sandsend are popular with surfers, and the quaint village of Staithes is worth a visit with its links to the explorer Captain James Cook.

Head inland and you will enter the North York Moors National Park with its miles of beautiful countryside, walking routes and waterfalls. If you don’t fancy a drive, take the steam train from Whitby right into ’Heartbeat’ country. The medieval walled city of York is just an hour away and you’ll find plenty of attractions from The National Railway Museum to York Dungeons and The Jorvik Viking Centre. Whitby is steeped in history, with the Whitby Abbey on the headland, a cobbled historic old town, and the pretty harbour.
