With wonderful views and offering peace and relaxation, one of a select group of just six, this single storey, detached holiday lodge has been tastefully furnished to a very good standard. The holiday property lies midway between Helmsley and Kirkbymoorside, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, which makes an ideal location for touring by car or by bike (storage available), or simply walking from the door in the lovely countryside. Pickering is the home to the NYM Steam Railway, whilst Helmsley has a good range of shops, restaurants and inns. Castle Howard, Duncombe Park, the city of York and the coastal resorts of Scarborough and Whitby all make excellent days out. Indian restaurant, fish & chip shop and pub in village. This former cart store has been converted into a quaint Dale’s stone cottage set just off the village green in Bellerby. With its streams and mill race running through Bellerby it’s a picturesque setting at the edge of Wensleydale. Entering the front door into the living/dining room with exposed stonework, flagstone flooring, beams and a large inglenook fireplace, the cottage offers an abundance of character and charm. The two settees set around the open fire offer a cosy feel while watching the Smart TV in Holly Cottage.
A dining table and chairs are positioned to the rear of the room. Going through to the kitchen, all the appliances, crockery, and utensils you need are available to rustle up some cosy meals while staying at Holly Cottage. The staircase from the living room is characterful with uneven treads and a rope banister to guide you up towards the two bedrooms. Both rooms offer comfortable beds, one being a double, the other offering bunk beds suitable for children with attractive quality linen and hand and bath towels available for each Guest. The compact shower room has a shower cubicle with a deep step in/out, toilet, sink and heated towel rail
To the rear of the property there is an enclosed picket fenced garden which includes a lawn area and flower beds, along with a stone patio with a table, chairs, and a bench to enjoy sitting at while taking in a morning coffee or firing up the barbecue for an alfresco supper. The South facing front garden is not secured for dogs but guests can happily sit there on the bench and watch the world go by. The shared front driveway which offers parking for 1 car. The attached property, Cherry Tree Cottage, has allocated parking for 2 cars on the same driveway. Both properties can be used by larger Groups if required. Please ask about this option.
Bellerby is a village situated on the edge of The Yorkshire Dales National Park with a local pub serving a selection of real ales but unfortunately no food and although there is no shop or amenities as such in the village the lovely market town of Leyburn is just over a mile away where an array of individual shops, pubs, cafés, and restaurants are available. If you are looking to get out and stretch your legs, whether walking or cycling, there are abundant established public footpaths, bridleways, and cycle routes available in the local vicinity with spectacular scenery, open countryside, and pretty Yorkshire villages to explore.
Within easy driving distance there is an array of places to visit whether it’s the historic Castle Bolton, Richmond Castle, Jervaulx Abbey or the stunning Aysgarth Falls, there is something to suit everyone’s taste. The children and adults alike will love Forbidden Corner with its quirky folly garden to explore or for the more adventurous why not visit the theme park, Lightwater Valley. Whatever you choose to do please immerse yourself fully in the Yorkshire way of life – once you experience it you’ll be wanting to return where a warm welcome to you will always be found.

A short drive away is Hardraw, home to England’s highest unbroken waterfall. The Shawl is only a few steps from the Market Place in the centre of Leyburn and is accessible for walkers of all abilities and ages. Hop on the Wensleydale Vintage Bus to Ripon or Hawes, or ride the train on the Wensleydale Railway. Visit the nearby Forbidden Corner attraction in Coverdale where guests can follow a trail of follies, or the Georgian market town of Richmond, which offers many shops, restaurants, pubs and tea shops. This beautiful and historic town in is settled high above the River Swale and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area and the chance to browse the weekly market and monthly farmers’ market with local produce and crafts. Within an easy 2-hour drive is the historic cathedral city of Durham with its cathedral, castle and city walls. Brewers Cottage nestles in the grounds of Cropton Brewery in the sleepy hamlet of Cropton within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Dating back almost 200 years this terraced holiday cottage offers modern, contemporary accommodation, yet retains many of the original features. The brewery was developed in 1984 and offers tours to sample some of the fine ales on offer. Ideally located for walking, cycling and exploring the heather clad moors. If coastal walks and stunning beaches are in order, you’ll find the Heritage Coast just 18 miles away, including Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. Horcum View is a holiday bungalow located in the heart of Lockton with views over the North Yorkshire Moors. Peaceful location, with the occasional sound of the steam train chugging its way through the valley. Take a journey on the steam train (Levisham station ½ mile) through the heart of the National Park. North Yorkshire Moors are home to abbeys, castles and cycle/bridle paths. Converted from farm buildings, semi-detached Crossgates and Fellbeck are situated on the edge of the moors, just 3 miles above Pateley Bridge. All the cottages have been lovingly converted from old farm buildings and barns, and still retain much of their original character. Each property offers cosy, comfortable and well-equipped accommodation, providing an ideal base from which to explore the local moors and stunning coastline. There is a large paddock and gardens to unwind in and enjoy the stunning views and sunsets.

Rosedale offers a warm welcome to all ages, and is popular year round with families, walkers and cyclists alike. There are two pubs situated in Rosedale alongside two cafés on the village green, all serving delicious local produce. This is a lovely walking route from Craven Garth Cottages either by the quiet road or via the old railway line. The village boasts the fun and challenging Rosedale Abbey Golf Course, welcome to all abilities and open Easter to October. The Golf Course is situated next to Chimney Bank, where you can enjoy panoramic views of Rosedale. Also in the village is a contemporary glass studio, open to visitors all year round, selling handmade glass art made on-site.

Rosedale is perfect for enjoying anything outdoors, and the varied landscape provides endless footpaths where you can enjoy spectacular scenery. The owners can provide many local walking maps if required. The famous ‘Old Ironstone Railway’ walk runs all the way around the valley, and you can stop off at the lovely inn en-route for some local ales and traditional food, before continuing onwards to Rosedale Village. The area is increasingly favoured by cyclists, who are also welcome to cycle the old railway line. The Yorkshire Cycle Hub is 12 miles away at Fryup, offering cycle hire, alongside an excellent café where you can enjoy a piece of cake before setting off on your ride. Dalby Forest is well worth a visit and is also great for cycling, offering cycle hire and other adventure activities.

During your stay be sure to visit Ampleforth Abbey with its serene Abbey Church and grounds to explore at your leisure. Parking and entry is free, and Ampleforth boasts a great shop and tea room. Nearby Hutton-le-Hole, a picturesque village, offers a fantastic day out and even has its own Chocolate Factory. Visit Ryedale Folk Museum and sample the popular local ice cream and take a paddle in the stream. Fancy a stately home? Then look no further than Castle Howard, well worth a trip and a beautiful day out. The cottage is also within easy reach of Pickering with its many attractions including The North York Moors Railway which goes all the way to Whitby, where you can enjoy possibly the most famous fish and chips in the UK.

Each cottage offers a ‘Drive/walk, good food guide’, compiled by the owners to maximise visitors’ holiday enjoyment.
Among Scarborough’s many attractions are a Sea Life Centre and Theatre in the Round (offering productions and films for all ages) as well as plenty of restaurants, cafés and evening entertainment. Sea trips are available from the harbour and coarse fishing is enjoyed at nearby Throxenby Mere.
The Forge Valley Woodland Reserve lies ½ mile walk from the cottages and quiet lanes lead directly to Langdale Forest. Golf courses and riding stables are found locally and the more energetic might like to tackle the nearby Cleveland Way long distance footpath, with its stunning views over land and sea. The inviting moorland countryside and picturesque villages of ‘Heartbeat’ fame are a joy to explore and a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway is a must.
A 30-minute drive up the coast leads to the many delights of Robin Hood’s Bay and the old port of Whitby, a fascinating historic town, traditionally associated with Count Dracula and in whose attractive harbour tall ships often lie at anchor. The great houses of Sledmere, Burton Agnes and Castle Howard are all within 20 miles of the cottages.
