This brick-built, single-storey cottage is a hidden gem offering a very private stay whilst enjoying an enviable position near to the award-winning, dog-friendly pub and is 5 minutes by car from the nearby market town of Thirsk. It has been completely renovated internally in December 2019 and externally over the summer of 2020.
The cottage offers beautifully presented accommodation for two guests and their pets. There is a small double bedroom with under-bed storage. There is extensive garden space outside the cottage with stunning views, which is also fully fenced to allow your pets to wander in a contained area. Access to a larger field is also provided. Car parking for two cars is available next to the cottage, which is at the end of a private tarmac and gravelled driveway. There is also separate secure storage available for bicycles.
The owners are keen walkers, runners and cyclists and can advise of lovely local and regional routes and provide local dog-friendly walk guides for your use. From the doorstep, there are numerous footpaths and cycling trails and the renowned, traditional, dog-friendly village inn serves local produce just minutes from the cottage. The village is home to a 4x4 driving centre which offers action-packed days with off-road driver training and quad biking, and at Sutton Bank, visitors can take a trial lesson at the Yorkshire Gliding Club and visit the nearby famous White Horse near Kilburn. Thirsk, 3 miles away, is a quaint market town famous for its connections with James Herriot, the well-known vet and author of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. Thirsk is also home to a well-known racecourse and 15th century church.

Climb the 199 steps to the gothic Whitby Abbey, which was made famous by Bram Stoker’s ’Dracula’, or take a stroll along the cobbled streets taking in some of the older parts of town with its jet stone boutiques. Whitby has an up and coming foody scene too, with everything from Michelin star restaurants and award-winning fish and chips, to tea rooms and family friendly pubs, many of which are dog friendly. The Yorkshire Heritage Coast is dotted with hidden gems such as Staithes and Runswick Bay to the north, and Robin Hood’s Bay to the south. Robin Hood’s Bay can be reached along the Cinder Track walk and cycle way, and the Cleveland Way also makes its way along the tops of cliffs and into some of the bays, offering superb photo opportunities along its path. This charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is considered something of an artist’s dream, and even has its own popular Art and Heritage Festival along with regular workshops and artisan displays. The pretty houses and cottages dotted around the old harbour are surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, and a sheltered sandy beach is set amongst the rocky coastline. Steeped in history, Captain Cook served his apprenticeship in Staithes, and there are many old buildings to admire and a museum to take you back in time.
Modern day Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to a RNLI lifeboat station, and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) land their catch of fish, crab and lobster. There are also boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and whale watching available. An ’Illusion Trail’ guides visitors around the network of backstreets and alleyways. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the seashore. The Cleveland Way stretches its way along this dramatic coastline and is a firm favourite with walkers as it drops into many hidden bays and coves such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Saltburn-by-the-Sea.
The wonderful town of Whitby is just 10 miles away with its regular events and festivals including the Goth Weekend, a regatta and regular live music events to complement its many fabulous restaurants and bars, tea rooms and delis. Try climbing the 199 steps up to the abbey and St Mary’s Church from where you can take in the breathtaking views down into the town and out to sea.

Head inland to enjoy a myriad of walking and cycling routes that the National Park has to offer, enjoy a warm welcome in one of the many village inns dotted across the moors, or take it easy on board a steam train journey into the heart of this beautiful part of the world. The property is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac, in the village of Hunmanby, and just 3 miles from the traditional seaside resort of Filey. There are a whole host of amenities within walking distance including a post office, shops and local pubs. The seaside resorts of Filey, Scarborough and Bridlington are all just a short drive away. Filey is the smallest of the three resorts, and is a very traditional seaside resort with a wonderful large sandy beach. Scarborough and Bridlington are much larger resorts with lots of amenities to keep the family entertained. Scarborough also has two wonderful bays with a long sweeping promenade which stretches for over 3 miles, perfect for a leisurely stroll along the seafront. To the north of the bays you will find the Sealife Centre and Alpamare Water Park, both exciting visits for children. Peasholm Park with its stunning gardens and large lake where you can hire pedalos and rowing boats is also close by. The park is also home to the world famous Naval Warfare Battle, a miniature sea battle that is re-enacted with model warships and has entertained many children over the years. The market towns of Pickering, Malton, Driffield and Beverley are also worth visiting during your stay. Each have busy market days as well as lots of little independent shops and cafés.
