Ivy Cottage is situated just outside the hamlet of Beck Hole, one of Yorkshire’s best kept secrets, and just outside the village of Goathland from the ’Heartbeat’ TV show fame. This stunning cottage is just a short walk from one of the smallest pubs in the UK, known for its traditional ales and warm friendly welcome. Stunning valleys and sweeping hillside views can be enjoyed from this idyllic location as can the many cycle tracks, bridle paths and walkways all from the doorstep.

Nearby Whitby is increasingly popular with holidaymakers all year round as it has something to offer all the family, including 3 miles of golden sandy beach, donkey rides and ice creams. Climb the 199 steps to the gothic Whitby Abbey, which was made famous by Bram Stoker’s ’Dracula’, or take a stroll along the cobbled streets taking in some of the older parts of town with its jet stone boutiques. Whitby has an up and coming foody scene too, with everything from Michelin star restaurants and award-winning fish and chips, to tea rooms and family friendly pubs, many of which are dog friendly. There is also a golf course nearby and many boats offering tourist trips out to sea in search of seals, dolphins and even minke whales in the right season.

The Yorkshire Heritage Coast is dotted with hidden gems such as Staithes and Runswick Bay to the north, and Robin Hood’s Bay to the south. Robin Hood’s Bay can be reached along the Cinder Track walk and cycle way, and the Cleveland Way also makes its way along the tops of cliffs and into some of the bays, offering superb photo opportunities along its path. The North York Moors National Park is right on the doorstep, with its hundreds of walking routes which take in the Falling Foss Waterfall and The Moors National Park Centre. Beach 9 miles. There are wonderful walks and cycling straight from the door and out into the National Park and there is bike storage available on site. Enjoy the many delights of the area including hidden coves and beaches, exhilarating cliff top walks and coastal villages such as Robin Hood’s Bay, and Ravenscar where you can walk down to the foot of the cliffs to view the seal colony. Wonderful Whitby is further north with its busy cobbled streets and independent shops offering everything from Gothic clothing to jet stone jewellery. There is an abundance of traditional pubs with live music that accept pets, coffee shops and tea rooms, and an increasingly popular food scene with gastro pubs and bistros complementing award winning fish and chip shops. There are plenty of dog friendly beach areas to explore where you can enjoy rock pooling and fossil hunting. Keep an eye on the events calendar as there is always something happening in Whitby from the famous Goth weekends, a regatta, music festivals and a folk week being highlights of a year round calendar. Just south of Staintondale you will find the traditional seaside resort of Scarborough with its busy amusement arcades, a waterpark and sandy beaches. The open air theatre hosts live international acts throughout the summer, and no trip to Scarborough is complete without a stroll around Peasholm Park and the world-famous Peasholm Park Naval Warfare which takes place throughout the summer.
With the North York Moors National Park right on your doorstep there are many walks and cycle routes to explore, or just enjoy a drive through some of the most stunning scenery. There is so much to see nearby but you may fancy a trip further afield to the walled city of York, an hour away, with its ancient minster and historic buildings. Paddock House is a beautiful detached, stone-built bungalow situated in Middleham, Wensleydale, nestled away peacefully just behind Middleham village square. The property feels warm and welcoming no matter what the weather. There’s ample private parking at the property with a double garage that can be used for storage. It is an excellent property which is exceptionally large and offers plenty of space for all family members. There are two living rooms and the bedrooms offer a great combination for sleeping arrangements with a super kingsize, two zip and link super kingsize beds that can be made up as singles on request, and a double sofa bed. Middleham is renowned for its castle, formerly home to Richard III, and several race horse stables. A fabulous sight to watch as the horses are led through the village each day up onto the gallops. Fremington is set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park in Swaledale, surrounded by beautiful countryside and plentiful walks right from the doorstep, being well placed for the Coast to Coast, Pennine Way, Corpse Way and the Inn Way trail walks. A short stroll into Grinton takes you to the local pub overlooking the River Swale, it has a lovely sun trap outside to enjoy a cool drink on a summers’ day or sit around the fire with a local ale and some good wholesome food on a winters night! Reeth is just over a mile away and a pleasant walk, the village has two village stores, selection of tea rooms, pubs, restaurant and gift shops. Further attractions can be found in the market towns of Leyburn, 8 miles, set around a market square with an array of eclectic shops, award winning delicatessen and wine merchant. The majestic Richmond Castle stands high and proud and is open for visits, while the riverside is a beautiful walkway around the perimeter of the town.
