Located only 200 yards from the beach, you are just a stroll along the seafront from all the bars, restaurants and amenities that this bustling town has to offer. Inside this delightful house you have the living room at the front with a separate open plan kitchen/dining area. The kitchen is modern and perfect for guests who love to create fresh home cooked meals to enjoy together. There are glass doors leading out from the dining area into your enclosed garden, which has a table and chairs ready for sunny evenings of al fresco dining. Plus there is storage for bikes, surf boards and other outdoor equipment. The garden looks out onto a green open space which leads you down towards the beach. Upstairs are three bedrooms, the master double bedroom, a twin bedroom with a zip and link kingsize bed which can be made up as 2ft 6in twin beds on request, and a single bedroom.

Whitby is famous for its links to Dracula, and the Gothic abbey and graveyard tower 199 steps above the town. The climb is worth the effort just to take in the fantastic views of the town and out to sea. Many events and festivals take place all year round such as the Goth Weekender, Folk Week, Whitby Regatta, Steampunk festivals and many music events. There are plenty of traditional pubs to complement the wine bars, as well as many different bistros and restaurants to choose from, not forgetting award-winning fish and chips. There is a 3 mile stretch of golden sand complete with ice cream parlours and arcades to enjoy, and a long pier to walk down.

If you want to get off the beaten track there are many coves and bays dotted along the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast to explore. Hidden gems such as Runswick Bay and Boggle Hole along with the more famous such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes are worth a visit. There are many local walks in the area including the Cleveland Way route, and the Cinder Track across the viaduct which heads down to Robin Hood’s Bay.

Head inland into the North York Moors National Park for stunning scenery and fabulous views. Local bus, car, bike or even a journey on a traditional steam train are other ways to get out and see what the area has to offer. The Victorian seaside town of Scarborough is just down the coast with its two huge bays; North Bay for a quiet stroll watching the waves, or South Bay for amusement arcades, a fairground and a harbour. The Open Air Theatre plays host to many international artists throughout the summer months, and Peasholm Park hosts its Model Naval War on a regular basis. There are a number of golf courses, cycling tracks and country or beach walks in the local area. If history is your thing, there are many abbeys and historic places of interest throughout North Yorkshire including the Eden War Museum in Malton. The walled city of York is just an hour’s drive away.

Take advantage of your close proximity to the coast and spend a day at Whitby Beach, where you can try your hand at surfing or paddle boarding with the local surf school, sunbathe with your favourite book, or beachcomb the shores, looking out for fossils as well as fragments of precious jet. Jet jewellery is highly regarded here, and you can visit many jet jewellery shops as well as the historical workshop. Wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy a whale watching cruise, searching for seals, dolphins, and whales, which frequent the shores especially in September. Or travel further south along the coast to Bempton Cliffs where thousands of seabirds nest annually at the RSPB site.
The coastline here is fabulous with the neighbouring villages of Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick, Staithes and Sandsend all perfect for a scenic day out all year round. Some visitors love soaking up the sun, whilst others are enthralled on a stormy day watching the waves. Be sure to visit the North York National Park, where a plethora of scenic walks through wooded valleys await, taking the steam train from Whitby gives you a wonderful tour of some of the prettiest villages on the moors. All year round there are many events to enjoy, and for younger family members there is Flamingoland theme park and zoo, the Sea Life Centre, Dalby Forest’s Go Ape and Alpamare Water Park all within a 40 minutes’ drive. Originally a fisherman’s cottage, you are tucked away from the high street in the village of Loftus, with a small stream running past the front door. The glorious Yorkshire coast is within 2 miles away.
Starting with Skinningrove, a peaceful beautiful beach just a 30 minute steady stroll from the cottage, is great for fossil hunting; further along the coast is gorgeous Runswick Bay, picturesque Staithes, the surfers’ paradise of Saltburn and the historic seafaring town of Whitby with its long golden beach stretching to Sandsend. For walkers there are walking trails across the national park, and within walking distance of stunning beaches, which include the Cleveland Way along the cliff tops, or Roseberry Topping which offers stunning panoramic views.
If you are fascinated by history visit Guisborough Priory and Whitby Abbey, as well as museums including Staithes Heritage Museum, Whitby’s Captain Cook Museum and Hutton le Holes Folk Museum. On the moors there are many rural villages to visit, or why not enjoy a trip on the steam train to take in the scenery.
For the adventurous there are water sports including white water rafting, sailing and paddle boarding at Tees Barrage and Scaling Dam, as well as surf schools in Saltburn, Sandsend and Whitby. In Dalby Forest you can zip wire through the treetops.

Harbourside House is a modern, end townhouse, located at the commencement of the Whitehall Landing Development, but within close proximity of the harbour and having pleasant harbour views. There is a children’s playground located behind the property, which will be well suited for families with small children. It has been decorated and furnished to a good standard and is a perfect base for couples and families looking to explore the Yorkshire Coast or the North York Moors area. There is an enclosed garden, patio and raised decking area with harbour views – great for dining al-fresco or just relaxing with a glass of wine. A 10-minute walk will bring you into the heart of the town where you will find an abundance of activities and amenities to suit all the family. The local tour bus is an excellent way of visiting some of Whitby’s highlights including the stunning Abbey and St. Mary’s Church positioned on the Cliff top where you can enjoy spectacular views over Whitby and out to sea. There are also many events going on all year round including Whitby’s own Regatta, Folk week, music weekends and Goth Weekends which offer something to please everyone. If you would like to travel further afield you can visit many pretty coastal resorts dotted along the coast from Whitby including Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay which are all worth a day out. Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War I army bunkers are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafés and a restaurant, and in 2020 the village was featured on the BBC programme ’Gone Christmas Fishing’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.

Elizabeth Cottage is a gorgeous terraced cottage situated in the picture-postcard village of Hinderwell, on the Yorkshire Coast. This dog-friendly cottage makes an idyllic retreat for two people in which to relax and unwind and take in all that the area has to offer. The cosy accommodation has been attractively furnished to offer guests a comfortable stay. The quirky living room has exposed brickwork and an open fire set within the original cast iron fireplace, a great space to curl up after a day exploring the coastline. There is also a Smart TV and DVD player for your entertainment. There is a staircase of two small flights of six steps separated by a small landing. It is a little steep but has a handrail. On the first floor the double bedroom has stripped wooden floors and a large window with seat. The comfortable bed, Hypnos mattress and crisp bedding ensures a good night’s sleep. The stylish bathroom with shower over bath completes this floor. Externally there is an enclosed, south-facing courtyard with a terraced patio and garden furniture. It has been described as a sun trap by many guests. A great place to enjoy a morning coffee or evening glass of wine as you watch the sun go down.
The cottage is close to two village inns and there is a direct bus route to Whitby and surrounding bays, ideal for avoiding parking at busy times. The bus runs regularly 7 days a week from morning until late evening. The beautiful beaches of Runswick Bay, Staithes and Sandsend are within easy reach. There are amenities on hand including a butchers/grocery store, church, village hall and fish and chip shop. Hinderwell is an ideal base for walking holidays too with many coastal walking routes and the Cleveland Way close by. This is the perfect location for exploring further inland as well, with the whole of the North York Moors just waiting to be explored.
