Inside it is charming and quirky. The open plan living space and dining area are perfect for that special get-together with friends or family. There is a large wood burner for the cooler nights, with comfy sofas to curl up on. Décor is as you would expect of a lodge, with wooden floors and panelling, tartans and checks and it has a wonderful homely feel to it. Comfortably catering for up to six people, with a well-equipped shaker style kitchen and modern appliances. Should you wish to rustle up brunch or a hearty supper. Upstairs are three good sized bedrooms with king size, super king and twin beds. The kingsize bedroom has doors leading out onto a spacious decked balcony where you can sit and enjoy views of the gardens and beyond. A large bathroom with sumptuous underfloor heating completes this floor. Outside is where the fun begins. Pop on a robe and take a dip in the hot tub, surrounded by trees and shrubbery, it’s a perfect hideaway. Find a quiet spot to read a book, or set the table and enjoy an al fresco supper. Steps lead off into a secluded garden with fruit trees and benches to sit and a raised pergola, a perfect spot to sit and enjoy a glass of bubbly. The garden opens up into a paddock and the most amazing wall to wall views of the Tyne Valley and North Cumbrian Fells. An elevated decking area sits in the farthest spot with uninterrupted views of the countryside beyond. As night draws in, take a warm throw to wrap up and sit and experience the amazing starry skies above Northumberland.
Out and about this is a fabulous place to explore with so much to see and do. Set on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, the location is excellent for exploring the spectacular scenery of the north of England, the Scottish borderland and the Lake District National Park, which is just an hour away. Nearby you can discover the Vindolanda Roman Fort, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre and the world famous Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall. Also within easy reach is Haltwhistle, which is the ‘Geographic Centre of Britain’, with sports centre and outdoor heated swimming pools, and Burn Gorge. A must visit is the historic market town of Hexham, which boasts a stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country, and an abundance of eclectic shops, restaurants and pubs. Continue to the beautiful Roman town of Corbridge and meander round its boutique shops, art galleries and antique shops, stop for a coffee or take a stroll along the river. Locally there is an abundance of eateries to choose from. A nearby inn serving good food and ales offers astronomers a star gazing experience and is a 20-minute walk away, with nearby Haltwhistle, Bardon Mill and Hexham offering a range of pubs and restaurants. The newly installed kitchen and utility are well equipped with all the necessary appliances you will need throughout your stay. Upstairs the en-suite master bedroom looks out across the stream to the castle, with kingsize bed, dressing area and stylish furniture. Bedroom two can be a family room, with kingsize bed and additional pull out single available on request and suitable for a child. Bedroom three has three bespoke bunk style beds, the two lower beds suitable for adults…children will adore this room! There is a luxurious family bathroom with bath and shower over and an additional downstairs separate toilet. Outside the grounds extend down to the stream, a perfect spot to sit and relax, you might even spot a fish or two swim by! Beat a retreat to the patio where you can take a dip in the hot tub or sit and just take in the joys of the countryside. There is a covered shelter with lighting, table, and chairs for al fresco suppers or for some campfire fun, cosy up round the fire pit and watch the stars - you’ll certainly be undisturbed.
There are beautiful walks from the door. A 20-minute walk will take you across the river to the village of Bardon Mill with picnic area, coffee shop/general store, a hotel serving a varied menu including Thai meals and drinks. From here catch the train - you can be in Newcastle or Carlisle in under 45 minutes. Nearby Haltwhistle, geographically acknowledged as ’the Centre of Britain’ has many amenities including a supermarket, independent shops, restaurant, cocktail bar, a sports centre, and an outdoor swimming pool.
