Tucked away in a peaceful and secluded village setting, these five comfortably furnished holiday cottages are set in an idyllic location, only 5 miles from the spectacular Bamburgh Castle and one of the longest sandy beaches in England, and within a few minutes’ drive of Seahouses, where regular boat trips depart for the Farne Islands. Warenford Village serves as an excellent base from which to discover Northumberland and the Scottish border country. Created to rival the best in Europe, the gardens are contemporary in design and include waterfalls and cascading plumes set within landscaped grounds with themed planted areas. Also sure to delight both young and old alike is a visit to neighbouring Alnwick Castle, which served as the location for the Harry Potter films. Home of the Percy family, it stands as the second largest inhabited castle in England after Windsor Castle, with some of its rooms open to the public and displaying a wealth of decorative and fine art.
Within easy reach, too, is Holy Island – renowned for its medieval religious heritage, priory and picturesque castle – and also known by its Anglo-Saxon name of Lindisfarne. Accessed by a paved causeway at low tide, the island is popular with bird-watchers and nature lovers, with the north-western portion of the island being maintained as a nature reserve, where terns, plovers and seals can be observed. Lowick, EnglandThe moment you approach this beautifully converted chapel you know you’re in store for a lovely stay in a unique property. The large wooden chapel doors open to reveal a big hallway with a couple of rooms leading off to the sides. You come to a useful study room first which offers a little privacy or peace, and the opposite is a utility room providing the perfect place to dry and feed the dog, dry wet coats after a busy day’s walking in the Lakes. A second set of doors opens into an impressive, Instagram-worthy living space, with high vaulted ceilings, large leaded windows, and oak beams.
Once you catch your breath, you can take in the large kitchen with all the amenities and space required to cater anything from a simple sandwich to a family feast. The breakfast bar is the ideal place to watch the chef show off their skills whilst enjoying a glass of wine before moving the feast to the large dining table, where you could easily imagine you were starring in an epic movie during a medieval banquet.

The chapel is in the quiet Hamlet of Lowick Green near Spark Bridge but offers a great location to explore the scenery and attractions of the South Lakes area. There is a local pub The Farmers Arms. The iconic Coniston Water is just 10 miles away, offering a great location for wild swimming, paddleboarding or kayaking for those water enthusiasts. Alternatively, within a short drive, you can enjoy the world-famous Windermere water offering Lakeside towns to explore with an excellent range of independent shops, restaurants, pubs, or attractions like The World of Beatrix Potter. Berwick-upon-Tweed, EnglandSea View at Lamberton has 180 degree panoramic views of the sea with views towards Bamburgh Castle and the Farne Islands. The good size garden and elevated timber decking viewing platform will be a great place to enjoy the outside. This farming two storey property sleeps six comfortably in three bedrooms. One of the double rooms is on the ground floor with the remaining twin and double bedrooms upstairs. The bathroom with shower over L-Shaped bath are on the ground floor. A fairly well-equipped kitchen has a little utility area off to the side to allow for that extra little bit of practical space you always need. Of course we always hope for great weather when we are away from home but if the weather isn’t great there is an open fire for those cold and grim days. This really is a fabulous property to spend your break. Warkworth, EnglandMystic Falls is a fabulous Scandinavian style log cabin set in a peaceful corner of Felmoor Country Park in Northumberland.
This two-bedroom cabin is built to a high specification, with a lovely terrace to the front to sit, relax and watch the world go by. Inside you have an open plan living area with lovely furnishings, enjoying the views out to the park, two comfortable bedrooms, a king size and a twin, a family bathroom with shower and fully fitted modern kitchen. There is also a hairdryer and an iron available for guests use. The small on-site café and residents’ bar is a nice area to take breakfast, chat to other holidaymakers and is only a short walk from your lodge. There is also Wi-Fi available in the club house. There is a small grocery store on the neighbouring Bockenfield Park. There is a lovely lake nearby where you can watch the ducks and swans, and the children’s playpark and zip wire are sure to be a big hit with the family! If you fancy a meal out, then there are plenty of restaurants within a few miles. It’s ideal if you are looking for a great base to explore Northumberland, yet still have lovely surroundings and somewhere to relax after your busy days out. There is plenty to do and see in the area and there is wildlife surrounding the cabin, so it’s a real country retreat.
Nearby is the Northumberland County Zoo at Eshott which is lovely for the children to visit for a few hours. It’s a 2-minute drive from your lodge or a few minutes’ walk. The historic market towns of Morpeth, with its pretty riverside, and Alnwick, with its famous castle used in Harry Potter, are both nearby and have plenty of shops, cafés and pubs. The small village of Felton is only 2 miles away and has a friendly pub with good food, a village shop which incorporates a Post Office with cash back facilities and a highly acclaimed tearoom with a artisan bakery. Golf is available at Burgham Park, only a 2-minute drive, should you fancy a round whilst visiting.
