    Wooler sits at the foot of the Cheviot Hills and is a popular destination for those who enjoy outdoor activities only 10 miles west from Belford. Local amentities include a fish and chip shop, coffee shop and a Co-op. There is also the farm shop that sells local produce and has a varied menu on offer daily as have the local pubs with some offer food. The picture perfect coastal village of Bamburgh with its dramatic fortress and wide sweep of golden, sandy beach is a highly sought after seaside destination and is only 6 miles away.
    The historic market towns of Alnwick to the south and Berwick-upon-Tweed to the north are equidistant at 15 miles away and offer a wide array of facilities. Beach 6 miles. Shop 300 yards, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

Renovated in 2018, Lapwing Cottage is a beautiful detached barn conversion offering tasteful rooms and plenty of Northumbrian touches throughout, with open plan living and a huge super kingsize bed that can be changed to a twin on request. The sofa bed in the living room is handy for an additional child or adult. The light and airy living space has a modern electric fire and pretty, large arch window on the gable end where you can sit and watch the wildlife in this tranquil setting. The extensive grounds are landscaped, with a small patio area to the front, ideal for relaxation. The friendly owners are nearby should you need anything during your stay and are happy to advise on days out.

    There is a great restaurant with a railway carriage theme nearby at Weldon Bridge, less than a mile away, with great ales and a friendly ambience. The historic town of Morpeth is only 9 miles away with an array of pubs, wine bars, shops and cafés. Rothbury, a quieter market town, is only 6½ miles where you will find the vast National Trust property of Cragside House and Gardens, well worth a visit during your stay. The cottage is ideally located for all the link roads should you wish to visit Alnwick Castle and the Northumbrian Heritage Coast only a few miles away. Beach 12 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

    Rothbury is a popular base for exploring the surrounding, stunning countryside which can be done by foot, cycle, or car. The less energetic may wish to take a gentle stroll along the river and try walking over the stepping stones as a reminder of childhood times.
    Serious walkers can amble over to the Simonside Hills. Rothbury is known as the capital of Coquetdale and is ideally located for exploring the nearby villages. Set on the edge of the National Park it is within easy access of the Northumberland Heritage Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and only 12 miles from Alnwick famed for the castle used in some Harry Potter film scenes. The National Park can be easily reached and Kielder has a host of water sports. The drive along the lake is pretty spectacular and the dark skies at night are a big visitor attraction. You may even wish to venture to the Scottish Borders only 30 miles from here and of course the friendly city of Newcastle upon Tyne is only 30 miles south where you can explore the historic buildings and take a photo by the famous Tyne Bridge.
