Dog-friendly Shropshire

The Tumbling Sailor’s name derives from an old pub which was previously on the site called The Tumbling Sailors Inn. It was demolished in the early 1900s. This marvellous Shropshire cottage offers groups of up to six a wonderful stay located on the bank of the River Severn, and in the heart of Jackfield, you’re only one mile from the Ironbridge Gorge.
The cottage has a stylish interior, with modern features, and little touches of rural charm. You’ll love the comfy furnishings, oak beams, and exposed brick. A great spot to socialise with your loved ones is in the open plan living/dining room with comfy sofas, views across the garden and complete with a wood burner. You can stay toasty and enjoy a glass of wine long into the evening. This room also has a large wooden dining table with plenty of space for your entire group, and if that’s not enough there’s a conservatory with more seating to relax in and enjoy a book or cup of tea first thing. The property’s modern kitchen has all you need to cook up lovely meals, including a large Range oven.
The three bedrooms all sit on the first floor. The master boasts a kingsize bed, whilst the second bedroom has a double bed, and the third two singles for all your sleeping arrangements covered. There’s plenty of space and all have been decorated in calming tones but still showcasing that homely cottage feel. A large family bathroom with a luxurious corner bathtub and shower completes the first floor. Outside the River Severn sits at the bottom of the garden, offering you beautiful views and sounds from the river, and ideal for kayaking and paddleboarding. There are steps leading down, along the way you’ll find lovely seating areas, and impressive gardens great on those sunny days. The garden is enclosed so that your furry friends can roam freely and there’s lots of space for everyone to enjoy a meal outside.
You’re located near to the wonderful village of Ironbridge, it’s just a quick, 15-minute walk from the cottage where you’ll find quaint cafes, great pubs and restaurants and independent shops to explore. The Ironbridge Gorge UNESCO World Heritage site is a now a maze of footpaths, bridleways, and country lanes. Whilst the village is famous for being home of the world’s first iron-built bridge, built between 1777-79 a collection of ten industrial and Victorian themed museums makes up the Ironbridge Museums Trust, including the exciting Blists Hill Victorian Village. Within driving distance are the popular historical towns of Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock and Ludlow, as well as the Wroxeter Roman City, the Severn valley Railway, the RAF Cosford Museum, and many National Trust properties. The Tumbling Sailor is a wonderful base from which to explore the beautiful county of Shropshire. Pub and restaurant within 1 mile.

This stunning detached holiday lodge is located in a superb position, on the same site as the largest waterwheel powering a corn mill, still working in England today and virtually unaltered since the 18th century - still in ownership of the same family for over 250 years. Set in the idyllic Shropshire countryside, deep in a wooded valley, crossed by the 19th-century viaduct, this is one of Shropshire’s finest locations. Visitors to the area are a 1-mile walk from the town centre, where you will find High Town and Low Town, plus the famous cliff railway. Other attractions nearby include Rays farm, Cosford Museum, Dudmaston Hall NT and the ever popular Ironbridge gorge and museums. There are good road links to the rest of south Shropshire including Ludlow, Much Wenlock and Shrewsbury, where you can enjoy anything from castles, festivals, and horse racing to the events at Theatre Severn. In the heart of Maesbury Marsh, adjacent to the village inn, a family friendly establishment and locally renowned restaurant, this semi-detached, Grade II listed barn conversion mixes traditional features with contemporary styling and facilities to create the ideal holiday home. In a superb location for exploring the delightful borderlands of England and Wales, with the historic market town of Oswestry with its fine selection of shops, restaurants and pubs just 3 miles away, the location offers a myriad of family attractions and opportunities for outdoor pursuits close by. Canadian canoes can be hired on the nearby Montgomery Canal and wonderful walking, golf and fishing are all available nearby. Shop 200 yards, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

This holiday cottage, newly converted in 2019, is situated just outside of the village of Baschurch which is set near to Shrewsbury and Ellesmere. Baschurch offers pubs, takeaways, churches, a large convenience store and cash point. The local bus, which operates between Shrewsbury and Ellesmere, collects and drops off on Springfield Barns main drive allowing guests to leave the car behind.
Shropshire is a gem of a county with so much to explore within easy reach. The north of the county offers the meres, mosses and canals along with the county town of Shrewsbury. Whereas the south of the county offers the stunning Shropshire Hills and food renowned market town of Ludlow. The county is home to Ironbridge World Heritage Site and Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site and nine National Trust sites including Attingham Park.
Shrewsbury is the birthplace of Charles Darwin and is a wonder of medieval black and white buildings. The town offers fantastic dining, individual shops, craft markets, museums, art galleries and the stunning Dingle within the Quarry Park.
The barn is set within the boundary of the owner’s grounds and it neighbours The Parlour (ref UK10958) on one side. There is private parking for two cars within the main parking area and the property is accessed from the main drive.
You step through the front door into a very modern, bright, airy open plan conversion with vaulted ceilings and beautifully restored original exposed beams. Firstly, into the fully fitted and equipped kitchen area with breakfast bar, oven, microwave, fridge and ample storage space. Then into the living area with dining table for two people and the peaceful living area with a 32” Freeview TV and sofa. To the rear of the living area is the sleeping area with a kingsize bed and an en-suite shower room. It is surprisingly spacious for a sleeps two conversion.
There are two seating areas, one within the lawned garden and the other adjacent to the front door. Both areas are ideal for relaxing and barbecuing. Shop 2½ miles, pub and restaurant 700 yards.

These two properties are in the pretty village of Burwarton, at the foot of The Brown Clee Hill, and located just a minutes walk from a country pub ’The Boyne Arms’, which has been renovated and is run by the owners’ of these properties. The Boyne Arms offers fantastic meals in a most comfortable and cosy setting, the beer garden outside now includes private pods which guests can use to enjoy their drinks and food outside (see their website for opening and serving times). Included in your short break will be a return journey to either Ludlow or Bridgnorth, to enhance your stay without the need to worry about transport.
The Old School House 1 (UK32061) is a three bedroomed property of which one is en-suite and has a mezzanine balcony overlooking the open plan living space. The Old Kitchen (UK32062) is a studio apartment with the bedroom area in with the living area.
Burwarton is close to Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, Ludlow and Bridgnorth which all offer an array of attractions as well as a large range of shops and bars. For the more active guests there are many walks to enjoy such as Clee Burf and Brown Clee Hill which is the highest point in Shropshire. The town of Ludlow is also just a short drive away and highlights for the day include Mortimer Forest and Ludlow Castle. After a long day walking and exploring all that Shropshire has to offer. High Bank was renovated in June 2023 and rests in front of Pontesford and Earl’s Hills in the beautiful Shropshire village of Pontesbury. Facing south, and slightly elevated, the views stretch out over the Shropshire countryside which is by far the best views in the village. Behind the cottage, the scenery continues and with various public footpaths and walking trails on your doorstep so you are really spoilt for choice. This gorgeous cottage has been lovingly decorated with a combination of farmhouse collections as well as contemporary art and designer fabrics. Combine this with the backdrop and being so close to nature and the outdoors and it’s the perfect home to come back to after a day out exploring.
High Bank has a welcoming, cosy living room which has been tastefully decorated in pale calming tones and fabrics. Snuggle up on the comfortable sofas with a hot chocolate and a good film or just chat the evening away in front of the log burner. You will find a stylish, modern, open-plan kitchen/dining area, which is well-equipped to provide everything you will need for your stay. Meals can be enjoyed at the rustic wooden dining table which has comfy seating, ensuring your mealtimes are a joy. Outside at the back of the cottage is an ideal spot where you can sit and plan your day’s exploring over a delicious morning cup of coffee.
High Bank features two double bedrooms, a kingsize room, and a twin, so whether you’re planning a romantic escape or a family break, it’s ideal. Both bedrooms are elegantly designed in a country-chic style with sumptuous bedding and soft tones and come complete with spacious, modern en-suite bathrooms. As well as the cosy enclosed back garden patio, the spacious front garden has seating to provide a relaxing space for guests to chill out and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surrounding area, overlooking the distinctive, humped hill. This hill roared forth from a volcano some 650 million years ago, and is now is a very popular spot for adventure seekers to explore the many trails. With a panoramic view at the top, it’s well worth the hike up, so just pack your water bottle!
Pontesbury has quite a vibrant community, and benefits from a number of shops, pubs, and restaurants. The area has easy access onto the national cycle route and an array of countryside walks. For the keen golfer, the local club is 3 miles. Shrewsbury, the ancient medieval market town, is only 15 minutes’ drive away. Filled with nearly 800 listed buildings, including the castle and world-famous abbey and a vast majority of independent shops, cafés, and fantastic restaurants there’s plenty to explore to suit everyone. For those seeking more outdoors adventure there’s great mountain biking, or horse riding at Eastridge Woods, with trails to suit all abilities. Other activities within proximity to High Bank include the national trust property, Attingham Park with some fabulous gardens and walks to explore and also Hawkstone Park. Ludlow, renowned for its beautiful architecture and food festivals, and Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage property are within easy reach.
