    The Caldon canal runs close by so is perfect for waterside walks and cycles with maybe a spot of lunch at one of the canal-side pubs on the way. There’s also Rudyard Lake for some water-based activities surrounded by some of the most dramatic scenery to be found in the Staffordshire Moorlands. Thrill-seekers mustn’t miss Britain’s premier theme park Alton Towers which is just a 30-minute drive away, and the location is also just a few miles southwest of the magnificent Peak District National Park. The position is excellent for exploring Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire and is also just 40 minutes from the fascinating market town of Ashbourne with its abundance of eateries and renowned antique shops.

The dining table by the large windows allows diners views towards the surrounding woods and fields, and the kitchen is well appointed.     The property is located one mile from the village of Whittington which has a supermarket, pharmacy, newsagent, Chinese take-away, hairdresser, two village pubs and the beautiful church of St Giles originally built in the 13th century. It is a thriving village with monthly village markets and regular community events throughout the year.

    A wonderful array of amenities and a selection of charming walks can be enjoyed straight from the front door. A short drive away is the lovely market towns of Lichfield and Ashbourne. Lichfield retains its original character with a beautiful cathedral, Samuel Johnson’s home, a centre dedicated to Erasmus Darwin, St Mary’s Centre (where the Staffordshire Millennium Tapestries are on permanent display) and wonderful places to stop and enjoy some food. The market town of Ashbourne is worth visiting, with its original cobbled lanes, old market stalls and grand Georgian buildings which are home to a good selection of restaurants, interesting shops and traditional coaching inns. Why not visit nearby Burton-upon-Trent? Here you can enjoy a fascinating day discovering the art of brewing beer, whilst the National Memorial Arboretum is just a short drive away. The peace of the Peak District, with its maze of footpaths and cycle routes, is within easy reach, as well as the magnificent Cannock Chase. Both of these are Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering walking, cycling and horse riding.
    The National Trust Dovedale Valley is a wonderful place to visit; a renowned beauty spot, it offers excellent walking and cycling amidst spectacular scenery. A short drive away is Tamworth Castle, the ancient capital of Mercia. Take time to visit one of the local historic estates including Chatsworth House, Shugborough Hall, Kedleston Hall and nearby Sudbury Hall.
