Cafés, restaurants, bars and an array of shops, as well as the train station, are all within a 5-10 minute walk away. Here in Scarborough there are two bays, North Bay Beach sweeps in a crescent lined with colourful beach huts from the Sea Life Centre nearby. You can walk from the North Bay all the way along the promenade to the busier South Bay. Both bays have lovely, large sandy beaches making them perfect for your family holiday. There is also Scarborough Castle and the funfair on the seafront. Peasholm Park is wonderful to discover, you can hire pedalos and rowing boats to go around the lake and see the stunning oriental gardens. Scarborough is famous for its theatres.     Whitby is famous for its links to Dracula, and the Gothic abbey and graveyard tower 199 steps above the town. There are plenty of traditional pubs to complement the wine bars, as well as many different bistros and restaurants to choose from, not forgetting award-winning fish and chips. There is a 3 mile stretch of golden sand complete with ice cream parlours and arcades to enjoy, and a long pier to walk down.

    If you want to get off the beaten track there are many coves and bays dotted along the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast to explore. Hidden gems such as Runswick Bay and Boggle Hole along with the more famous such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes are worth a visit. There are many local walks in the area including the Cleveland Way route, and the Cinder Track across the viaduct which heads down to Robin Hood’s Bay.

    Head inland into the North York Moors National Park for stunning scenery and fabulous views. Local bus, car, bike or even a journey on a traditional steam train are other ways to get out and see what the area has to offer. The Victorian seaside town of Scarborough is just down the coast with its two huge bays; North Bay for a quiet stroll watching the waves, or South Bay for amusement arcades, a fairground and a harbour. The Open Air Theatre plays host to many international artists throughout the summer months, and Peasholm Park hosts its Model Naval War on a regular basis. There are a number of golf courses, cycling tracks and country or beach walks in the local area. If history is your thing, there are many abbeys and historic places of interest throughout North Yorkshire including the Eden War Museum in Malton. The walled city of York is just an hour’s drive away.
