The unspoilt and quieter beach at Covehithe is just a 2-minute drive and a further 6-minute drive will take you to the renowned coastal town of Southwold, with its sandy beach, colourful beach huts, iconic pier and lighthouse, and a great selection of restaurants, pubs and shops, as well as the Adnams Brewery.
Wrentham is a delightful village and being close to Southwold along the Suffolk Heritage Coast. The village has a good range of amenities including a village shop and post office, two pubs serving good food and Chinese takeaway. For those that prefer to eat out, you will be delighted with the gastro pubs within the surrounding area, and there is a pub serving good food just a 1-minute walk away. Beach 2 miles. Tollgate Cottage is a beautiful, detached single level property enviably located on the edge of the Blythburgh Estuary. It is tucked away alongside the A12 which runs the length of the Suffolk Heritage Coast making it the ideal spot for those wishing to explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In the village you will find a popular pub and walks including those by the famous church. The legend of the Black Shuck, a ghostly black dog, dates back to 1577 and has been immortalised in songs and folk legend. The church itself is an incredible structure, overlooking the Blyth Valley.

Public transport is superb here and you can get into the ever popular Southwold to enjoy all the quintessential town has to offer with ease. From its independent shops, brightly coloured beach huts and traditional pier, it’s easy to see why this coastal town is a holiday hot spot all year round. Walberswick is also an excellent must see during your visit. Crabbing here is the sport of choice and it will keep kids entertained all day. All you need is a line, a bucket and bacon (we hear smoked bacon is the preferred kind!).

This is also a dog friendly area with endless woodland and beach walks. A trip to Dunwich and the woods are highly recommended. With a much needed pub at the end of the route this is a destination ideal for both summer and winter getaways. RSPB Minsmere is also close by with incredible sighting of rare species reported by birdwatchers. Beach 3 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

Lowestoft is a favourite town for families with plenty to see and do. It has two piers, a wildlife park, award-winning theme park, museums, theatre and a beautiful beach with golden sands and beach huts, so don’t forget your bucket and spade! Just 4 miles away you’ll find Oulton Broad, the gateway to the Broads National Park, offering year-round watersports, day boat hire, cafés, riverside restaurants and bars. For great shopping and culture take a 50-minute drive to the city of Norwich, one of the UK’s top shopping destinations, with its stunning castle, museum, cathedral and an abundance of bars and restaurants. To the south is Southwold, ever popular for its pier, the brightly coloured beach huts and of course fish and chips is just 25 minutes away. Other places to visit that are within easy reach are Aldeburgh, RSPB Minsmere, Dunwich and the Suffolk Heritage Coastline.
Those who enjoy a bit of ’retail therapy’ should head to Norwich city just 50 minutes drive away, or 30 minutes on the train from nearby Oulton North Station, where you will find two indoor shopping malls, market square, cathedral, castle museum, plenty of cafés and restaurants. Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park is within 3 miles, Africa Alive is only 5 miles, Sealife Centre is within 11 miles and Marina Theatre just 3 miles.
