Located in a converted barn attached to the friendly owners’ mid 19th century Pennine farmhouse, it was completely refurbished throughout in 2018 with wonderful attention to detail, and offers beautiful far reaching views across the South Pennines. Just 2 miles from the popular village of Uppermill, a village which is fast becoming a rival to the trendiest parts of south Manchester, but in a semi rural environment. Uppermill is popular with walkers, cyclists and nature lovers alike with the immediate area surrounded by beautiful countryside such as the spectacular Dovestone Reservoir which is just 10 minutes away, and backs onto the Peak District National Park and all it has to offer. For those bringing their four-legged friends, warm water dog wash facilities are also provided at the property. The Diggle end of the Standedge Tunnel is nearby and Uppermill together with a bustling high street full of restaurants, bars and swish cafés also offers canal boats tours and both canal and riverside walks. Just 5 minutes in the other direction is the small town of Mossley, and uniquely is where the historic counties of Lancashire, Cheshire and the West Riding of Yorkshire all meet.
Around an hours scenic car journey across the moors will take you to the tourist hotspots of artsy Hebden Bridge and fabulous Haworth with its cobbled high street, most famous for its Bronte heritage. Holmfirth most recognisable from Last of the Summer Wine, and the bright lights of Manchester can be reached in around 30 minutes or the city of Leeds in around an hour by car or via the local railway station less than a mile away. Two good food serving pubs are within easy walking distance, and other local attractions include the annual ‘Yanks’ weekend held each August (Dobcross was used as a filming location for the blockbuster ‘Yanks’ starring Richard Gere) and the ‘Whit Friday Brass Band Contest’, often described as ’the greatest free show on Earth’. Quite uniquely, Holmfirth is also home to its very own vineyard and an intimate venue for live music and events, the Picturedrome. Widely recognised as the back drop for the record breaking BBC comedy Last of the Summer Wine, you can take a tour around the variety of film locations, and being located on the edge of the fabulous Peak District National Park means there are endless outdoor opportunities for walkers. Keen cyclists will relish the chance to recreate the 2015 Tour de Yorkshire at Holme Moss, and if you can bear to tear yourself away from the area there’s the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Cannon Hall Farm around 30 minutes away and the cities of both Manchester and Leeds in around an hour. The garden will be a firm favourite with guests, with space for children to play and adults to relax. It has its own private hot tub to soak in, timber framed outdoor cooking area with pizza oven and BBQ for al fresco dining. After a scenic walk, leave your boots in the handy boot room, with plenty of hooks for wet coats and towels for muddy paws.
Weavers Cottage is nestled between the idyllic villages of Slaithwaite and Marsden and set back from the picturesque Huddersfield Narrow Canal. Both villages can be easily reached on foot or bicycle along the canal directly from the property. With an easy 20 min walk you can enjoy the numerous café’s, bars and local shops, including some excellent artisan bakeries for that special breakfast treat. Just a short walk through adjacent fields will bring you to the Olive Branch Inn with its relaxed atmosphere, fine dining and outdoor seating to take in the beautiful views. The property is burrowed amidst the National Trust Marsden Moor Estate; guests will be spoilt for choice with more than 5000 acres to explore. Whether you prefer to explore the landscape on foot, by bike or through the lens of a camera there are plenty of things to see and do. The rugged landscape and steep climbs are the perfect challenge for keen mountain bikers, while others might prefer to wander alongside the water’s edge of the canal and retrace ancient packhorse trails to Standedge Tunnel with it’s fascinating Visitor Centre – where you can learn about the longest, highest and deepest canal tunnel in Britain. Marsden Train station can be reached on foot or just a few minutes drive away and offers easy access to Manchester (36mins) and Leeds (45mins) for that Big City vibe.
