Rugged Dartmoor is only a short drive, and many family attractions are within easy reach including National Trust-owned Castle Drogo, Fingle Bridge, the Teign Gorge, and Canonteign Falls and Country Park. The properties are within 10 miles of the old cathedral city of Exeter, with its many varied attractions including a racecourse, shopping, antique shops, guided tours and a host of summer festivals. The cosy and inviting home-from-home that is Tomfields Cottage is situated on Kingsley Moor in the beautiful surroundings of the Staffordshire Moorlands. A mere stone’s throw away is the Peak District National Park which makes it the perfect location to explore one of the most picturesque parts of the country and to enjoy a wide variety of visitor attractions. This welcoming semi-detached holiday cottage, adjacent to the owner’s farmhouse but with its private garden, enjoys uninterrupted countryside views as far as the eye can see! Hollins Lane is alongside the property and is perfect for a leisurely country walk, especially for any four-legged friends.
The scenic Churnet Valley has steam trains, wildlife reserves, and miles of splendid walking trails, through unspoilt woodlands, across rolling green fields and along the Cauldon Canal towpath which also follows the heritage railway line and River Churnet. The Roaches towering over the Market Town of Leek, provide spectacular views of Tittesworth Reservoir and the surrounding countryside. Well worth a visit is beautiful Dovedale, well-known for its stepping stones, and nearby Ilam Park and Gardens where you can relax after a long walk or have a lovely picnic.
Local attractions in the area are Alton Towers Theme Park, Splash Landings & Crazy Golf. The Trentham Estate and its award-winning gardens, with retail therapy to be enjoyed at its shopping village and garden centre, and the Monkey Forest is an absolute must! At Peak Wildlife Park come face-to-face with meerkats, penguins, alpacas, and polar bears!!! Stoke-on-Trent, known as ‘The Potteries’ has a few original bottle oven kilns remaining, some can be seen at the Gladstone Pottery Museum, home to Channel 4’s ‘The Great Pottery Throw Down’. Other ceramic attractions are The World of Wedgwood Museum and Emma Bridgewater Factory.
Golf, fishing, sailing, and horse trekking opportunities are all possible nearby. Enjoy the Manifold and Tissington trails, where cycle hire is available. Foxtail Barn wedding venue is a mere 5-minute drive away. Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock and Castleton, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Shugborough Hall are all within easy reach and well worth a visit.

With so much available on site, it may be hard to tear yourself away from The Paddocks. The small fishing lake offers carp from 6lbs to 8lbs, roach, rudd and tench for just £3 per person per day, and there is also a seasonal shop, bar and restaurant too. This makes for a great family base from which to explore the area and, better still, it is just 8 miles from the coast which is an AONB. These well presented, single-storey barn conversions at Barney (refs: 30953, 30954 and 30955) offer comfortable and relaxing accommodation whether you plan to unwind and get away from it all or emerse yourself in the multitude of activities that this area has to offer.

Close by lies Blakeney with its picturesque quay and quaint tradition of crabbing. This offers a great gateway to the wider Norfolk coastline with beaches that are great for sun-worshipping on, walking along and even bird watching. Boat trips can be taken to the seal colony and Blakeney Point Nature Island, and you are just 10 minutes from the beautiful market town of Holt. Within 15-20 minutes you will also find the Pensthorpe Nature Reserve, Thursford Collection and its Christmas Spectacular, Stody Lodge Gardens, RSPB at Cley Marshes, North Norfolk Railway, as well as the stunning seaside towns of Wells-next-the-Sea and Sheringham. Leisure pool and cinema in Fakenham. Within 30-40 minutes you will also find the NT properties, Sandringham, Holkham, with its famous beach, Houghton and Blickling, as well as Burnham Market, the seaside town of Cromer with its pier and other attractions, including Amazona Zoo.

The cottages are available to enjoy as single units or you can interconnect all three barns (refs: 30953, 30954 and 30955) for parties of 10, 12 or 16, so it’s perfect if you are travelling as a large group too! Within a 5-minute walk there is a shop, restaurant and bar, and on site are fishing, a children’s play area, large chess sets and a variety of games, as well as a pool table and table tennis. Situated on the Blackdown Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and approximately 18 miles to Sidmouth and the famous World Heritage Jurassic Coast, these semi-detached bungalows (refs 23955 and W43778) are both well-presented and have large lawned gardens making them excellent family holiday homes. Within easy driving there is much to enjoy, with days out at perhaps a historical house such as Barrington Court (National Trust), Forde Abbey and Gardens, Montacute House and the imposing Dunster Castle. For family entertainment, an exciting day out at the Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum, the West Somerset Steam Fair for a trip back in time, or for the younger ones in the family, you will love Crealy Adventure Park, near Exeter. The Blackdown Hills themselves offer some superb country walking, wildlife, flying for the adventurous at Dunkeswell or simply enjoy the many local village pubs to wine and dine in. A little further afield, visit the Jurassic Coast, moving on to Dorset, Lyme Regis and Cheddar Gorge and Caves, or even Bath with its many restaurants, shops and museums. For the sports enthusiasts, visitors can enjoy a round of golf at the Jack Nicklaus course or watch live sport at the Llanelli Scarlet’s Rugby Stadium and nearby Ffos Las racecourse.
