The River Severn is a 10-15 minute walk from the property whilst the Forest of Dean offers plenty for the adventurous including mountain biking, zip wires, Go Ape, kayaking and horse riding. There is an abundance of cycle tracks and valley walks where you may even encounter the native wild boar. Alternatively, just relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this rural retreat.

Step through the door straight into the beautiful and private courtyard garden where you’ll love sitting enjoying the sunshine chatting over your day with a refreshing drink. The well-equipped kitchen is perfect for preparing a full English, getting together a picnic for the day’s outing, or rustling up a simple meal after exploring this stunning part of the country. Enjoy your prepared meal together in the dining room which is also the perfect place to compete with your fellow guests over a board game or a game of cards. In the evening curl up with a good book or a family film favourite in the living room in front of the cosy wood burner. Upstairs are three bedrooms all featuring a double bed and one also has and additional single bed for flexible sleeping arrangements.
The village of Mickleton is just simply charming with two pubs, a convenience store, a butchers and farm shops. It is an easy walk to Mickleton Antiques Centre plus it is home to the famous ’Pudding Club’ at The Three Ways House Hotel.
Situated on the edge of the Cotswolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which gives you easy access to the many quintessential towns and villages the Cotswolds are so famous for. Chipping Campden is just over 3 miles away, one of the jewels amongst the Cotswold villages, and offers an excellent choice of restaurants and inns which use local produce. Hidcote Gardens owned by the National Trust, is well worth a visit and is just 2 miles away. The Cotswold Way is within easy reach for walkers, ramblers and cyclists. Broadway is just over 6 miles away with pubs and restaurants and Broadway Tower where you can admire the views stretching far and wide over the countryside. Stratford-Upon-Avon is only 8 miles, where you can visit the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Shakespeare’s birthplace, and take a river boat trip along the River Avon. Warwick Castle, Blenheim Palace and Clarkson’s Farm are within easy reach. Visit Cheltenham with its racecourse where they hold the famous annual Cheltenham Festival and literary festival. The historic university city of Oxford and pretty Cotswold villages including Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water and Moreton-in-Marsh are all within easy driving distance and you can use the trainline from Honeybourne only 3 miles away.

West End Farm Lodge Alabaster is a detached lodge that has been built in 2023, situated on the owner’s 14-acre working farm. Set within the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with fabulous far-reaching views of the rolling countryside. All ground floor accommodation with open plan living space with a well-equipped kitchen – perfect for cooking up a storm whilst all socialising together. There are two bedrooms, both with en-suite shower rooms. One of the bedrooms has a zip and link bed so can be converted to twin beds if needed. Outside there is decking area with seating and enclosed lawned area – perfect for your four legged friends. There is an outdoor washing area for bikes and dogs, and use of a utility room with washing machine. Dog sitting is available with prior arrangement and paid directly to the owner.
Whether it’s a gentle stroll, relaxing and unwinding, or energetic pursuits you crave, you will be sure to find it all here. Riding, golfing, canoeing, fishing, kayaking and climbing are all available in the surrounding areas. Cycling is very popular in the Forest of Dean, with dedicated tracks and trails to suit all abilities. Rich in wildlife and nature, it has many picnic sites to soak up this atmospheric area. Local attractions include Puzzlewood, Go Ape high wire adventure course, the steam railway, Little Dean Jail and Dean Heritage Centre. Clearwell Caves and Tintern Abbey are also very popular. Chepstow, with its racecourse and cliff top castle, also has many bars, restaurants and independent shops. Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye are also within easy driving distance and have some fantastic historic castles to visit. Gloucester, which is a short drive, offers a wider mix of shopping, pubs and bistros and is great for Harry Potter fans to view the cathedral where filming took place.

The Shepherds hut offers everything you would want in one place and an open plan layout but in a pocket-sized version, including a full kitchen, electric hob, and full fridge freezer, quickly shift across to the dining room or outside seating to enjoy the sunset with your meal, the cabin features a full-scale fold down double bed which also allows you to take in the morning sunshine without having to move a muscle. Enjoy the garden either with a BBQ or taking in the flowers.

If you find yourself at a loose end there are endless sights to see and scenes to explore within Cotswolds which is a stone’s throw away, with its endless hikes and trials along the Cotswold Way Hike, or take the weight off your feet and enjoy a bite to eat at one of the pubs in Frampton if you want to, you’ll never see the same thing twice. Visit Gloucester Cathedral or the famous docks which are just 20 minutes away and you can take in its stunning architecture as well as seeing where some of the scene’s films were recorded, a magical experience for any fan.

Fern Bank Cottage sits in the Forest of Dean with direct access to cycle routes and beautiful walks from the front door. Our cottage is an ideal place to explore this fabulous area.

The cottage is full of home-from-home comforts including a large kitchen leading into a spacious living room with a wood burner, Smart TV and bi-fold doors leading to a large, decked area with garden furniture. At the front of the cottage, you will find the snug, a cosy second sitting room with plenty of games and books to enjoy. Upstairs there are three large bedrooms, with the master having an en-suite shower room and a family-sized bathroom.

The local areas have fascinating history and heritage and cycling enthusiasts will find plenty of cycle trails. Bike hire is only 1 mile from the cottage. There are also two fantastic pubs within walking distance. Nearby our guests can enjoy Symonds Yat Rock, Puzzlewood, Clearwell Caves, Stand up paddle boarding, canoeing, Go Ape and many more activities. There is good fishing, RSPB reserves, riding, golf and tennis. The market towns of Ross-on-Wye, Chepstow and Monmouth are within easy driving distance from Fern Bank Cottage as we are just 5 miles from the beautiful Wye Valley.

Wharf Annex sits on the cusp of The Cotswolds and the Royal Forest of Dean in Coombe Hill. Cosy and bijou, yet wonderfully comfortable for two, it boasts a bubbling hot tub within its substantial private garden for some serious relaxation and recuperation. For those seeking a peaceful and rural getaway with rolling countryside views, along with the perks of nearby suburbia of Cheltenham, Gloucester and Tewkesbury then Wharf Annex is for you. Sitting down an idyllic country lane, the annexe is in the good company of the Coombe Hill Nature Reserve right on its doorstep, their land rich in wildlife.
Wharf Annex is detached and all on one level. As you walk in you will find a cosy living room, with a comfy sofa for two. A small kitchen offers all the mod-cons. A table and chairs give room to wine and dine, should cooking a meal be on the agenda. If cooking is not on the agenda, you will be pleased to know that within a short walk along the lane, you will find the country pub, which is highly regarded for its food locally.
The bedroom holds a kingsize bed, with a sumptuous mattress and linens for the ultimate night’s slumber. An en-suite shower room is complete with a rainfall shower for a refreshing start to your day. The property features air-conditioning, hairdryer and shampoo.

Being an enclosed garden, should you like to bring a small pooch on your travels, Wharf Annex can accommodate.
There are many reasons to visit Gloucestershire, be it to walk or cycle the Cotswold Way. Tour the ‘chocolate box’ villages such as Stow-on-the-Wold or the honey stone houses of Chipping Campden, sporting events in Cheltenham Spa, scenic river tours from the banks of medieval Tewkesbury or walk in the footsteps of Harry Potter himself at Gloucester Cathedral. All are within easy reach of the Wharf Annex. Cheltenham (5 miles), Tewkesbury miles (4 miles), Gloucester miles (6 miles), Stow-on-the-wold (24 miles), and Chipping Campden (24miles) can all be reached within a 10 to 30-minute drive.

The barn is right next to a footpath which links to an enormous network of walks, including Offa’s Dyke and the Wye Valley Walk. Hopewell Barn would suit families or friends and your four-legged friends are welcome too – plenty of space for them to run around in the grounds and adjoining fields. There is great garden space with two paved areas perfect to enjoy alfresco dining or BBQ. The property is nestled in the village of Hewelsfield and there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. This border territory is marked by stunning scenery and has brooding castles at Chepstow and Raglan, Tintern Abbey is just a mile from the property and certainly worth a visit.
Explore the market towns of Abergavenny with the annual food festival and superb walks to be had. Monmouth has lots of cafés, restaurants and shops to meander around or enjoy excellent walking in the Forest of Dean and along the riverbank. This is a perfect base from which to visit nearby attractions which include Clearwell Caves, The Secret Forest, Puzzlewood, Perry Grove Steam Railway, the sculpture trail and a railway museum.
The Forest of Dean has always been a huge draw for cyclists with some wonderful routes. Fishing, horse riding, cycling and canoeing are readily available nearby. Areas within easy reach also include Beechenhurst and Mallards Pike. Symonds Yat is a popular destination for ornithologists due to the presence of nesting peregrine falcons. Fancy a day at the races, then Chepstow’s racecourse is a short drive, for the golfers amongst you there are some excellent golf courses nearby. The area is wonderful for sightseeing and touring, and easily accessible all year round. Whatever your day brings Hopewell Barn will be a welcome return.
