Further afield, you can visit Poole Harbour, The Blue Pool, historic Wareham and the second largest natural harbour in the world, a day out at the Tank Museum and a day enjoying Monkey World. There is so much to do and explore.

Situated in a quiet rural location, Bardon Lodge is a spacious property attached to the owner’s home and set within 10 acres of grounds. The property is surrounded by fields and woodland, yet close enough to all amenities. The property has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard and is all on one level with both bedrooms having en-suite facilities. There are so many places to visit and so easy to get to. Take a trip to Totnes where there are many shops, markets and walks along the riverbank. Dartmoor is just a short car ride where you can see the ponies, walk the Tors or simply stop off in one of the many villages for a Devon cream tea. Paignton, Torquay and Brixham are also great places to visit, as are Exeter and Plymouth, both within 30 minutes’ drive. There are many National Trust properties including Agatha Christie’s summer home ’Greenway’, well worth a visit. For the children, there is Crealy Adventure park, or Go Ape in Haldon. If you are bringing a bicycle, there are many cycle ways off road to be explored, including Powderham Castle where there is a cycle track all along the estuary. Set in the lovely village of Bishopswood, with the Somerset Wildlife Trust running adjacent to the property, you are only 5-minutes’ walk from the local pub and surrounded by miles of beautiful walks. The market town of Honiton is just 10 miles away and the beach at Lyme Regis can be reached within a 30-minute drive. Heading north, you will find the county town of Taunton with lots of restaurants, cinema, bowling and shopping, and within an hour’s drive you will find Glastonbury, Street, Minehead and the moors of Exmoor! A walk along the golden sands of Fraisthorpe Beach will bring you to the bustling seaside holiday town of Bridlington. Here you will find a plethora of shops, tea rooms, restaurants, and bars. There are also plenty of amusements and facilities for children. For a taste of local history, be sure to spend the day at Sewerby Hall and gardens, and Burton Agnes Hall, or head a little further inland and explore the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds. There are miles of footpaths to explore and cycle routes to ride so do make sure to bring your bikes with you. The ancient City of York is just an hour away and the pretty market towns of Beverley and Driffield are waiting to be explored. The nearby coastal resorts of Filey and Scarborough are also well worth a visit. The Poplars is a wonderful base from which to explore this beautiful part of Yorkshire.

Tucked away on a quiet farm lane, The Paddock is a traditional terraced, single storey stone farm cottage located on a working, farm 1 mile from the charming seaside village of Portmahomack. The pretty cottage garden overlooks the owner’s farmland, with distant sea views. The cottage looks south over the Moray Firth and Moray Coast with views of Cairngorms and Ben Rhinnes. The accommodation is beautifully presented, with a large living room with lovely views across the open fields. The bright, kitchen/dining room is fully fitted and very well-equipped. There are three generously proportioned bedrooms, all thoughtfully decorated with colour co-ordinated soft furnishings. Exposed stone walls and large canvases of the surrounding area add to the cottage’s charm and ambience.

Portmahomack is a thriving seaside village with a fishing harbour and pier, as well as a superb sweeping sandy beach; the mountains beyond act as a stunning backdrop. Portmahomack is the only village on the east coast of Scotland that faces due west and has spectacular sunsets. The village has a renowned seafood restaurant as well as a café, local store and a lovely traditional links golf course, Tarbat Golf Club, which is open to visitors. The area is renowned for its archaeological sites and at the nearby Tarbat Discovery Centre is a local heritage centre and museum, with a fascinating display of Pict, Norse and medieval artefacts, as well as a gift shop. Within 15-20 minutes’ drive lies the Royal Burgh of Tain, established as a Royal Burgh in 1066, and the Tain Museum houses the famous original Tain Silver Collection. Predominantly built in local mellow sandstone, Tain is a charming historic town and offers an excellent selection of small shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs as well as a wide variety of sporting and recreational facilities, including Tain Golf Course which looks across the Dornoch Firth to Dornoch. Just outside Tain you will find the renowned Famous Glenmorangie Distillery, where you can take a tour and sample some of the famous whisky. Beach 1 mile. Shop and restaurant 1 mile, pub 0.5 miles.

Situated in a quiet position overlooking grazed meadowland, quite often the flight path of the resident barn owl, The Old Saddlery is a short distance from the main 16th-century Colkirk Hall farmhouse, rumoured to play host to members of the Gun Powder Plot. The property dates back to the mid-1700s, formally a cart shed and stables and latterly a saddlery through until the mid-1980s when it was remodelled into the Old Saddlery. You will find the first floor situated within the eaves of the property containing bedroom three, along with a bathroom. Great care was taken to preserve some original features such as the beams, but to provide all the modern conveniences needed for a great stay. Coast lovers can be in Wells-next-the-Sea in 20 minutes. Here you will find a wide sandy beach with pretty coloured beach huts, a picturesque quay and a lovely assortment of boutique shops, cafés and restaurants. Head west and explore a coastline littered with pretty coastal villages with beaches and marshes galore. Go as far as Hunstanton and enjoy all the fun of the fair or explore the Sealife Centre. Then head east and stop off at Blakeney to enjoy the traditional pursuit of crabbing or visit Cromer with its famous pier and seasonal end of pier show. The Holkham Hall and Blickling Estates are within easy reach, as is Sandringham, the Hanseatic Quarter of Old Kings Lynn and the medieval city of Norwich. Beach 13 miles. Shop 1½ miles, pub ½ mile and restaurant 4½ miles.

This holiday property is set within the grounds of Yaxham House, the owner’s home, the Georgian Grade II listed former rectory that served the parish of Yaxham. The Old Rectory Coach House is the detached former coach house to the former rectory. Situated in its own grounds, it has achieved a silver award in Green Tourism. The property enjoys an attractive and secluded setting approached by a private road and drive adjacent to the parish church of St Peters. It offers a warm welcome at any time of the year and is a perfect base for exploring all that the area has to offer.

The Mid Norfolk Railway (MNR) is ½ mile away with trips available from Yaxham to Wymondham Abbey and Dereham. Dereham, 2 miles, offers an indoor swimming pool, cinema, bowling, shops, supermarkets and a market on Tuesdays and Fridays. The property lies within an hour’s drive of the coast, with excellent sandy beaches and RSPB nature and bird reserves. The Norfolk Broads, the Brecks (and its stone curlews), Peddars Way, Norfolk Coastal Path and many National Trust properties are also easily accessible.

The village is at the centre of a network of footpaths and there is a children’s play area and recreation ground close to the church. From the nearby bus stop, regular bus services go to Dereham and Norwich. Restaurant/takeaway and café/bistro ½ mile.

Another major attraction is the experience to feed/care for animals should guests wish to. The beaches are a main attraction of the North Devon region for many and with some of the best in the UK like Saunton Sands, Woolacombe, Westward Ho! and Croyde being easily reached by car from the property, surfing, windsurfing and lazy sandy days should definitely be on your agenda.
The Southwest Coast Path is also a popular ‘must visit’ for keen runners and walkers! If golf is your thing, then you will be spoiled for choice with excellent courses including the Royal North Devon Club in Westward Ho! which was founded in 1864 and is the oldest golf course in England and the wonderful Championship Links Saunton Club. The popular Tarka Trail can be accessed nearby and provides the unique opportunity to follow a disused railway line by foot or by cycle allowing you to enjoy some of Devon’s finest countryside and scenery while discovering the towns of Barnstaple and Bideford where you can wander during the weekly pannier markets, with a host of local produce, quality cafés and crafts on offer.
On your Tarka Trail journey be sure to visit the Fremington Quay Café for a tasty bite to eat and then the estuary-side village of Instow – a must see! Other places not to forget to visit are the world-famous village of Clovelly with its steep pedestrianised cobbled main street, traditional architecture, donkeys and views over the Bristol Channel and Lynton & Lynmouth for stunning views out towards Wales. And be sure not to forget to visit Exmoor or Dartmoor National Parks, the former with its magical night skies in Europe’s first ’Dark Sky Reserve’.
And for a day with a difference take a trip across to Lundy Island, home to England’s first statutory Marine Nature Reserve due to its unique flora and fauna. Measuring just 3 miles by ¾ mile, this entire island has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and trips depart from Bideford and Ilfracombe.
