Bring your bucket and spade as the glorious sandy beach at Morfa Dyffryn is just a mile down the road and offers superb views over to the Rhinog Mountains. For the more adventurous, Zip World and Bounce Below at Blaenau Ffestiniog are a thrill seekers delight, whilst the famous Ffestiniog Railway and mighty Harlech Castle are also well worth a visit. From Barmouth, why not hire a bike and cycle across Barmouth Bridge and along the Mawddach Trail to Penmaenpool and Dolgellau? Beach 1 mile. Shops 300 yards, pubs and restaurants ½ mile.

Take a trip on the little Fairbourne Railway out to the headland and cross the Mawddach Estuary by ferry, and visit Barmouth where you can try crabbing in the harbour, or stroll across the famous Barmouth Bridge. Imagine yourself climbing Cader Idris, exploring the ruins of Castell-y-Bere, or riding behind a steam engine on the friendly Talyllyn Railway and hopping off the train to explore the waterfalls at Dolgoch or Nant Gwernol. Visit the pretty market town of Dolgellau, go walking or mountain biking at Coed-Y-Brenin Forest Park, then relax in the garden with a glass of wine, watching the sun set.

The cottage is slightly quirky, with lower ceilings in some parts and uneven floors but this is what gives it it’s charm and showcases some of the original features. The owners have lovingly decorated the property to a good standard, accentuating those features. A pebble beach is only 5 minutes’ walk, and the sandy beach at Fairbourne is 3 miles away. A short stroll leads to the railway station, where you catch a train for lovely journeys through the superb scenery of Cardigan Bay, to the harbour towns of Barmouth and Aberdyfi, with a wealth of shops, pubs and restaurants. The harbour at Barmouth is beautiful and you can walk across the spectacular Barmouth Bridge spanning the river. Excellent walking, cycling, riding, golf and bird watching are enjoyed locally. With Bird Rock just down the road and a view of Snowdon from the beach. If you’re lucky you may even see dolphins swimming in the bay. Glasfor is ideal for those hoping to enjoy a coastal retreat, in Snowdonia.

Bwthyn Talarran is in the pretty town centre of Dolgellau, with a range of individual shops and delightful cafés and eateries. You can hire a bike or walk along the Mawddach Trail, which follows the track bed of the old railway line to Barmouth, giving unique views of the Mawddach Estuary and the famous Barmouth Bridge. At Barmouth you’ll find an enormous sandy beach, so don’t forget to take your bucket and spade. No visit to North Wales would be complete without a ride on one of the Great Little Trains of Wales, and at Dol y Clochydd, you’re within easy reach of the Talyllyn Railway at Tywyn, the Bala Lake Railway at Llanuwchllyn and the Ffestiniog Railway which runs between Porthmadog and Blaenau Ffestiniog. Blaenau Ffestiniog is also home to Zip World Titan, the largest zip wire zone in the world, and Bounce Below, the only place in the world where you can bounce on trampoline nets deep underground in an old slate cavern. Cycling enthusiasts will be pleased to know there is a mountain biking centre, Coed Y Brenin, in the local area. Beach 9 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 110 yards.
