    At just 2 miles distance Bala offers a range of activities. The National White Water Centre is close by, where you can experience the thrill of rafting or canyoning, the shores of Bala Lake, with plenty of scenic walks, also a popular area for avid kayakers and paddle boarders. Take a trip on a steam train on the narrow-gauge railway along the lake shore between Bala and Llanuwchllyn, have a day at the beach over on the coast at Barmouth, or try some Welsh foodie delights at the award-winning Rhug Estate Organic Farm Shop at Corwen. Further afield in Blaenau Ffestiniog is the incredible Bounce Below where the whole family can try bouncing on trampoline nets deep underground in an old slate cavern, and Zip World, the largest zip wire zone in the world where you can fly high over the quarries whilst enjoying the spectacular view.
    You may wish to visit the local Castles includinf Harlech, Cardochan and Dolwyddelan, or Roman fort at Caer Gai. The Beautiful Caerau Ichaf Gardens are very close to Bala and the famous Erddig Gardens is only a short drive away. You could also take a trip on the steam railway at Fairbourne Miniature Railway, or Festiniog originally The Gravity Railway and Snowdon Mountain Railway. One of the most popular tourist attractions in North Wales is Portmeirion, the Italianate village is also worth a visit. Abandoned mines can be found nearby in Carros, Llechwedd Slate Caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog or Sygun Copper Mind in Beddgelert.
