Trowley Farmhouse is situated in a tranquil, unspoilt location at the end of a private lane. Ideal for getting friends and families together, there is space to socialise with two lounges and a large farmhouse-style kitchen. There is also a private garden and nearby orchards and fields to have fun in or to simply relax. Stepping into the flagged stone entrance porch and through the grand oak door into the panelled hallway, you will get a sense of the history of this wonderful house. With oak beams, thick stone walls and original bread oven in the kitchen, the property retains much of the character of the original building, whilst every modern convenience is provided to make your stay comfortable whatever the season. On chillier evenings, the wood burner and open fire will provide the focal point for cosy nights in. The location is a must for nature lovers with red kites and buzzards often spotted, and up on Painscastle common, just a 20-minute walk, there are red grouse and curlews. Nearby is Rhosgoch Bog, a conservation area perfect for birdwatchers. At the highest point, known as the ‘Roundabout’ on the Begwn Hills, there are spectacular views and you can see seven counties on a clear day. The nearby town of Hay-on-Wye, famous for having close to 40 book shops, has plenty to keep you busy and one visit just isn’t enough. There are characterful antique shops and cafés, as well as many shops for those looking to discover a rare edition or bygone childhood book. Explore the atmospheric ruins of nearby Llanthony Priory, an early 13th Century Augustinian church which is open all year and entrance is free. Apart from being home to the internationally famous Royal Welsh Show, along with a host of other events, nearby Builth Wells offers everything from sports and leisure facilities, to an 18 hole golf course, pony trekking and renowned angling spots. The red kite feeding centre at Gigrin Farm offers the opportunity to come in close contact with these rare and magnificent birds on a daily basis.

Pippins was converted in 1999 from a former granary, and is set in 14 acres of pastureland overlooking the Ithon Valley, at the foot of Castle Bank, the site of the ruined Norman Cefnllys Castle. The cottage is adjacent to the owners own Grade II listed residence, which dates back to the 17th century.
Pippins has an ‘upside-down’ living arrangement and has been lovingly furnished by the owners. The open-plan upstairs living room and kitchen area overlooks the surrounding hills, making the most of the wonderful views. Downstairs there are two bedrooms (one with en-suite facilities), and an additional shower room.
Guests will appreciate the private garden overlooking the open countryside, with access to a public right of way leading down the hill to the 13th-century Cefnllys church. This is on the banks of the River Ithon, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, where you can cross the Shaky Bridge to Bailey Einon Nature Reserve. This is superb walking country, and is accessible straight from the doorstep. Red kites and buzzards can regularly be seen soaring over the land. Visitors to Pippins are welcome to wander over the owners’ land, taking in the far-reaching views.
A pub serving food can be found in Penybont just 2½ miles away, and Llandrindod Wells, approximately 15 minutes by car, has all the usual amenities of pubs, restaurants and local shops, together with the bonus of two large supermarkets. The magnificent Elan Valley is just over half an hour’s drive away, with a 9-mile traffic free path, stunning scenery and a fascinating visitor centre, café and a variety of events all year round. The surrounding area has long been famed for rare and beautiful wildlife, and the International Dark Sky Park status of the Elan Valley makes it an ideal place to view the moon, planets and stars, and sometimes you can get a superb view of the International Space Station.
Devil’s Bridge and waterfalls, the Vale of Rheidol steam railway and the coast at Aberystwyth are around an hour away by car.
