This beautiful cottage, dating back to the early 1800s, is packed full of character and old-world charm, along with some wonderful original features.
Located in the pretty village of Calder Vale on the edge of the Forest of Bowland and with the River Calder running right through it, this pretty cottage is set in a beautiful location. With the river right in front and a lovely lake and bluebell wood to the side, it is ideal for those looking to enjoy its surrounding nature and tranquil environment. Throughout May, the ladies in the village provide teas for thirsty travellers who come from far and wide to see the famous bluebells, and here you can also expect to observe plenty of wildlife including ducks and a variety of birds from robins to swifts as you meander along the path through the wood.
Finished to a lovely, cosy standard, this original property is accessed via a private road and has off-road parking spaces for cars to the side of the property.
Once inside, you immediately enter a welcoming and cosy living room, which transports you back in time, yet offers a contemporary modern feel. It lends an authentic cottage feel and experience to the cottage, from the warming wood burner to the original exposed stone work and feature airer hanging from the ceiling - ready to warm your clothes after a day out exploring the area. There is also a small dining table, which is a great place for a doing a jigsaw or playing cards in the evening, as well as a generous sofa which can be turned into a double bed for extra guests if required. There is a Freeview TV and DVD player, making this a great place to relax in and put your feet up after a full day out. The kitchen is well equipped and fitted with a modern touch, and has everything you need to cook the perfect meal together.
The original staircase leads you to the upstairs to the spacious, yet cosy, bedroom fitted with lovely oak furniture, bringing a contemporary and modern feel to the pretty room, which offers a lovely view of the river. The bathroom is quite spacious with a modern white suite comprising bath, with shower overhead, toilet and wash basin.
Outside, to the rear of the property, there are a few steps which lead onto a small patio area. There is a larger area to the front of the property also which is an ideal suntrap during the summer months. Garden furniture is provided so you can decide for yourself which is your preferred spot! The cottage also benefits from outside storage where you can house a bicycle or two.
Nearby is the historic market town of Garstang, 4½ miles, known for its tasty home-grown produce and individual shops, as well for being the first fairtrade village in the world. Here you can buy some traditional Lancashire home made treats! There are plenty of shops and pubs nearby. You can explore the town and watch the passing canal boats cruise along the peaceful Lancaster Canal, or if you fancy just a short walk (2 miles), you can walk from the village across the fields to Cobble Hey Farm and Gardens where there is a lovely café, gardens and a real working farm to see.
Why not visit the historic city of Lancaster, which has much to see and do? You can explore Lancaster Castle, one of the most captivating landmarks in the city along with its Georgian architecture. The seaside resorts of Morecambe and Blackpool are equally reachable, whilst the Forest of Bowland and, further afield, the wonderful Lake District National Park are within an hour’s drive and are also well worth a visit!

Rosemount Cottage dates back to the mid-1700s and has been lovingly renovated by the owners to create a comfortable and relaxing holiday home. Guests can enjoy exploring the local countryside with walks, cycling or climbing. If you’re a shopper, the popular Boundary Outlet store is just 4 miles away, offering quality brands all under one roof. The cottage is also ideally located for exploring all that Lancashire’s picturesque Ribble Valley has to offer, as well as being just a short drive from the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The Leeds Liverpool Canal can be reached in just a few minutes’ walk. There are narrow boat moorings along the canal, and the footpath provides picturesque walks to Foulridge and Barnoldswick in the opposite direction. Rosemount Cottage provides a perfect base for travel to the Lake District, and there is easy access to Leeds, York, Harrogate, Manchester, Skipton, Clitheroe, Haworth, Ribble Valley, Lancashire’s Trough of Bowland (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and the resorts of Lytham St Annes’s and Blackpool. This traditional mid-terrace cottage lies in the historic village of Hurst Green, in the heart of the Ribble Valley, and on the edge of the beautiful Forest of Bowland. Hurst Green is a pretty, popular village, surrounded by picture-perfect countryside. There’s much interest in the village itself, from the historic Almshouses opposite the cottage to the spectacular Stonyhurst College, just around the corner. The area is rich in wildlife, home to a variety of flora in the hedgerows, and small herds of wild deer living in the woods and you’ll hear a symphony of birdsong as you walk the local paths. J. R. R. Tolkien wrote much of the Lord of the Rings trilogy whilst staying at Stonyhurst College.
The area is also perfect as a base for cyclists with cycle trails through the woods up onto Longridge Fell and beyond. Gisburn Forest, famous for its amazing cycle routes, is only a short drive away from Hurst Green. Eating out is easy with The Bayley Arms and the Shireburn just a short walk away. The Ribble Valley is a famous foodie area, home to the Michelin-starred Northcote, the long-standing fabulousness of The Inn at Whitewell, The Freemasons at Wiswell, and many other great establishments. Clitheroe’s Holmes Mill, a “unique celebration of Lancashire food, drink and entertainment”, boasts the longest bar in Britain, as well as an Everyman Theatre and Food Hall that is well worth a visit.
On a clear day you will be able to see the whole of the Ribble Valley and as far as the Yorkshire Dales to the North and Morecambe Bay to the West. Other nearby attractions include the Bowland Wild Boar Park, the breathtaking Whalley Arches, and the National Trust-owned property of Gawthorpe Hall, or head to the coast and spend a day at the seaside resort of Blackpool or Lytham St. Annes. Shire Nook is a perfectly charming base for touring the North West of England and the Ribble Valley.

Liverpool can be reached in approximately an hour by car and Chester, Manchester and Preston are all within driving distance also. The Lake District and Lancashire’s beautiful Ribble Valley can be reached in around an hour.
