This has been built by the owner as an indulgent folly and is weatherproof and with a means of heating.
Stalmine is located approximately 5 miles from the small market town of Poulton-le-Fylde which has a good selection of shops, bars, and cafés. Other places that are worth a visit along the Fylde coast include Thornton Cleveleys with its old-fashioned charm and promenade, 7 miles, Fleetwood with its Freeport Outlet Shopping Village, 10 miles, and of course Blackpool, 9 miles, whose many attractions include The Tower, Blackpool Zoo, Pleasure Beach, Sea Life Centre, and Madame Tussauds.
Apart from being accessible for the coast, Carr End Barn A is also well-placed for exploring rural Lancashire. Ribble Valley with its pretty villages is within an hour’s drive, and it’s an excellent choice for walks and country pubs. The Forest of Bowland, which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, can also be reached within an hour’s drive. The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are also very accessible by road and can be reached in an hour. The city of Lancaster is just 13 miles away and Preston is 19 miles. Beach 9¾ miles. Guests at Moorgate Farm can enjoy the wonderful views of Pendle Hill and the surrounding countryside, whilst being close enough to the centre of the village to be able to walk to the local pub. With an abundance of local walks from the doorstep, these are a perfect retreat for families, couples or groups of friends.
The small village of Kelbrook lies near the Lancashire/Yorkshire border, which means that guests can take advantage of everything these two rural counties have to offer. Just 9 miles from the charming market town of Skipton, the ‘Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales’, guests can enjoy the local market and the selection of pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants available. Clitheroe and the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is just 10 miles away and offers an abundance of walking, cycling and local gastronomy to try. Hawett Farm is a beautifully unique, interior designed property offering a wonderful mix of rural character and charm. Set in two acres of grounds, the location is tranquil boasting far reaching countryside views to the sound of birdsong. Inside is incredibly spacious, encompassing three floors with the real heart of the home being the exquisite family kitchen. As you walk in, the vaulted ceiling and incredible views are simply impressive. The kitchen itself is a bespoke, handmade design and a central breakfast bar island, dining table and comfortable sofa in front of a wood burner have all been incorporated. There’s a separate huge living/dining area with open fire, and where you’ll find the television discreetly hidden behind an oak cabinet bookcase. For children (and adults!), the games room has a half-size snooker and pool table, together with a projector for films and music videos, yet another wood burner and a single bed. Lastly on the ground floor there’s a utility room and toilet.
Moving upstairs to the first floor you’ll find the family bathroom and three large bedrooms, each with stunning rural views to wake up to. The jungle mural bedroom is spectacular! Split and twist stairs take you to the second floor which is the luxurious master suite, with super kingsize bed and an en-suite with stand-alone tub, table-mounted twin wash basins and a walk-in rainfall shower. The television rises out of a wooden chest, and to add to the intrigue further, a full length mirror conceals the dressing room – it’s brilliant! Outside in the grounds, badminton and croquet is available to set up on the lawn. Finally there’s the opportunity to play with the tame goats, sheep and chickens, including the collection of eggs!
The village of Parbold is 1½ miles away and includes a train station with direct service to Manchester in just under an hour. Several good country pubs are within easy walking distance, and the Leeds to Liverpool canal runs through the village for waterside strolls and narrowboat/kayak hire. Fabulous walks and hikes are available direct from the door, and the beautiful sandy beach of Southport is a mere 30-minute drive.

Also, its proximity to both the Yorkshire Dales and Cumbria’s Lake District, together with great access to the motorway network, makes this an ideal touring base, with much to see and do. There are lots of great walks in the area. Arnside and Silverdale, which form a designated AONB, are within 12 miles. For the more adventurous, Warton Crag, 8 miles, provides opportunities for hiking, climbing and abseiling. Warton is also home to Leighton Hall, a historic house with pretty gardens, children’s play area, maze and tea rooms. It hosts various events throughout the year, such as an outdoor theatre and car rallys. Other activities available locally include cycling, fishing, horse riding and golf. Lancaster also has a large sports and leisure centre. Nature lovers will love Leighton Moss RSPB Nature Reserve, 10 miles, where the BBC’s Autumnwatch was filmed. Other places of interest nearby include Morecambe, 11 miles, Lancaster and Ingleton, both 12 miles. Just over 30 minutes drive will take you to Grange-over-Sands, Cartmel or Kendal, and within an hour you can be exploring Lake Windermere or Lancashire’s beautiful Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland. The front door leads to a vestibule with a boot rack and coat hooks, leading into the kitchen. The kitchen is bright and equipped with everything you may need, along with a small breakfast area where you can enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning. The original pantry is located off the kitchen providing extra storage, a washing machine, and an iron and ironing board. Adjacent to the kitchen is the living room where you will find a cosy sofa and armchair, plus a dining table and chairs. This room also benefits from a wood burner, TV, and DVD player. On the first floor are two spacious bedrooms, one double, and the other a twin, both beautifully furnished, with ample storage. The contemporary bathroom is also on this floor and features a large walk-in shower, sink with vanity unit, mirror, toilet, and heated towel rail. We recommend settling in and then popping next door to a hotel where you can sample their traditional beers, excellent wines, and homemade food. A restaurant serving tasty food and drink is also within walking distance.
Conder Green is a pretty location near Lancaster and is a fine place for a walk, bike ride, or kayaking. The area includes the picturesque Glasson Dock, the Lancaster Canal, and views of the tidal River Conder which runs through the area. This dog-friendly cottage is the ideal starting point for visiting The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and other regions of Lancashire, including the coastal towns of Morecambe, Blackpool, and Arnside. Located in the rural hamlet of Moss Side on the outskirts of wonderfully cosmopolitan Lytham, this wonderful complex of six holiday cottages provide a perfect base for friends and family alike wanting a fabulous seaside getaway. Newly renovated in 2022 they’re set around a pretty courtyard and surrounded by superb countryside despite being just 3 miles from the coast.
There’s a variety of single and two-storey cottages all comfortably accommodating four guests, plus an additional three bedroom cottage that comes complete with hot tub. Careful thought and design has gone into each of the conversions making great use of original features where possible. Large windows have also been included to many of the open plan living arrangements to ensure a bright and airy space, and to really make the most of the countryside views.
The centre of ‘Leafy Lytham’ is less than 3 miles away, or a 4 minute train journey from Moss Side station which is around a 10 minute walk. Lytham is a lovely seaside town where you can enjoy everything from fish and chips to fine dining plus lots of coffee shops. It’s famed for its iconic ‘Windmill on the Green’, as well as the annual Lytham Festival and Lytham Proms. A direct train service will also take you to neighbouring St Annes in 10 minutes where you’ll find a huge beautiful sandy beach, and then in 20 minutes you’ll reach Blackpool. Blackpool is home to a massive amount of tourist attractions including Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Blackpool Tower, the Sandcastle Water Park, SEA LIFE Blackpool and of course the annual illuminations light show.
For any golfers, there’s plenty of championship courses in the area and the reeds and marshes of the Ribble Estuary are popular with birdwatchers and wildlife lovers. Swapping the coast once more for countryside, slightly further afield the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the South Lakes can be reached within an hour. Beach 5 miles. Holden is situated less than a mile from the historic village of Bolton-by-Bowland, first recorded in the Doomsday book in the 11th Century, where you can find the celebrated Coach and Horses serving good food and locally crafted beers, or you can spoil yourself at the Coach House Beauty Retreat. This wonderful area offers an array of activities, walks over the fells and through endless green fields with a wide variety of local pubs serving food to satisfy a weary walkers belly. The winding country lanes take you through the Ribble Valley, Trough of Bowland and onto the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District and Fylde Coast making this a mecca for cyclists and walkers of all abilities. Nearby Gisburn Forest has an abundance of walking and cycling routes as well as some fantastic fishing on the stocks reservoir that surrounds it. Pendle Hill has some great hikes for the more hardy of walkers and for those seeking a challenge, the Yorkshire Three Peaks, Ingleton Falls are also within easy reach. Other country pursuits such as horse riding, golf and even clay pigeon shooting are all offered close by.
The market town of Clitheroe, 7 miles, with its Norman Fort standing proud, has a fantastic selection of independent boutiques, restaurants and bars. Head to Holmes Mill and peruse the magnificent food hall for some local, seasonal produce. During your stay you can also treat yourself to a sumptuous tasting menu at the Michelin star restaurant Northcote Manor or indulge in a spa day at Stanley House. Skipton, known as the gateway to the Dales, 14 miles, is another great day out with shops, restaurants and cafes dotted along cobbled streets running alongside the canal. Then drive on a few more miles to the beautiful village of Grassington, where they recently filmed All Creatures Great and Small, filled with local boutiques, cafes and restaurants. When you’re finished exploring, relax, and simply take in the stunning countryside views right from your very own doorstep.
