Based in the picturesque village of Sinnington, this mid-terraced holiday cottage, which lies next to the owners’ home, makes an excellent base from which to explore both moors and coast. The village has a pony trekking centre and the outstanding North York Moors are easily reached by foot or car with excellent walking and cycling direct from the village. Fishing and golf are also available nearby. Visit Castle Howard, Helmsley or Pickering, (with steam railway, 4 miles). Whitby is 32 miles, Scarborough 26 miles and York 30 miles. Shop 2 miles. Excellent pub/restaurant 100 yards.

Ty Newydd y Graig in English means “ new house on the rock” which, in the 1800’s, it was. It is built of limestone quarried from the rock that shelters it, and over 200 years later it remains “as solid as a rock.” The quarried rock face can be seen behind and to the right of the cottage. It backs on to Y Graig, a limestone nature preserve and area of ancient woodland. Until we bought the cottage nearly 60 years ago it still belonged to the family that built it whose descendants live in the village. We hope to continue this tradition.
Because of its unusual, solid construction dictated by the natural rock foundations, the cottage has its quirks, like steps in odd places. The high kitchen step is because the kitchen follows the rock underneath. It would have been impossible to build the kitchen on the same level as the main room. The narrow, twisty stairs are the original ones and difficult for the elderly or those with physical limitations. It is not wheelchair accessible.
Ty Newydd y Graig is a period property that might look old fashioned to modern eyes. The antique furniture is in keeping with the house and has always been there, but otherwise the cottage is well equipped with modern appliances. Its oddities, like unexpected steps, cannot undergo cosmetic surgery so it is important our guests are aware of them in advance.
The property is perfectly placed for walking and exploring Y Graig, or for taking day trips. Snowdonia, Offa’s Dyke, zip-lining and many more adventure opportunities, beaches, shopping centres, and Chester, a lovely medieval city with a Roman amphitheatre are close. Groceries can be delivered by Sainsbury’s, Morrisons etc. The nearest village shops are about three miles away. Shop 5 miles, pub 1½ miles and restaurant ¾ miles.

The nearby beaches and coves are a treat to explore and keen surfers and beach lovers have an abundant choice of far-reaching sandy beaches in the area, with Bude and Westward Ho! within easy driving distance. There is even the added benefit of an outdoor washing point at the properties, perfect for sandy dogs, and the choice of two fields to safely exercise your dog off lead. Fishing, watersports and sailing at nearby Tamar Lakes. Golf, riding and cycling on the Tarka Trail all close by. The fishing villages of Clovelly and Bucks Mills are within an easy drive or walking distance for keen walkers along the National Trust coastal paths. Lundy Island trips by helicopter or boat can be taken from Bideford, a historic port and market town which offers a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. Shops, pubs and restaurant 1 mile.

Set in the hills this detached holiday cottage is located within Palacerigg Country Park which has over 700-acres of grassland, moorland, woodland and ponds. Wildlife is abundant, roe deer, badger, fox, hare, sparrowhawk, kestrel, long-eared and short-eared owls can all be seen. Situated within half an hour’s drive to Glasgow and Stirling, whilst Loch Lomond National Park is a 45-minute drive. Woodland walks are available from the door to explore nature trails and places of historic interest, including evidence of fireclay mining at Glencryan. The cottage is ideally located to enjoy Buckinghamshire’s lovely countryside walks and bridleways, and makes an ideal base for walking, trekking and cycling holidays. The farm is in close proximity to the historic Ridgeway Trail and is not far from the start of the ancient Icknield Way at Ivinghoe Beacon. There are several stately homes and National Trust properties in the area; Chequers, the Prime Minister’s country estate is close by, as is Great Missenden, with its curving high street of half-timbered houses and Georgian shops, and the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre. Marlow and Henley provide attractive access for riverside walks along the Thames Path. Aylesbury and other large towns including High Wycombe, Milton Keynes and Windsor are all less than 1 hour away. There is a fast 40-minute train link from Amersham into London’s Marylebone Station for those wanting a day out in the capital. Shop 2 miles, pub ½ mile and restaurant 1 mile.
