Completely renovated in 2021, this beautiful detached, single-storey holiday cottage enjoys an idyllic location, with Loch Etive to the front and the River Awe directly behind. Extremely well furnished and equipped the property has direct access onto the beach. It boasts stunning views across the sea loch to the mountains beyond from some of the rooms, and lovely views over the garden from the others. There is a well-equipped kitchen and a dining area seating eight guests. The house enjoys significant privacy with its only neighbours being seals, otters and yachts. The lovely little town of Taynuilt has a friendly community and offers a village grocery store, a post office, butchers, tea room, hairdressers, doctor’s surgery and a restaurant serving good food. There is also a train station, the line through Taynuilt runs from Glasgow to Oban so you can have a day in the city or head to the islands. Taynuilt’s golf course is just a few minutes’ walk from the cottage and offers 9 holes.
The bustling Victorian town of Oban known as the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’ is just 20 minutes away by carand offers shops, bars, seafood restaurants, a cinema and leisure centre. Whisky lovers can visit the Oban Distillery to learn how it’s all made. Regular boat trips leave the busy harbour bound for the Inner Hebridean Islands, including Mull, Iona and the Treshnish Isles with their comical puffins.
Enjoy leisurely forest walks, horseriding, fishing, sailing, diving and golf, or for the more adventurous, Glen Nevis, one of the Highland’s most famous glens and the location of scenes from Harry Potter and Braveheart, is only a short drive and offers stunning scenery and bracing walks. Explore famous castles, historical sites and mature gardens. Visit Bonawe Iron Works, Cruachan Hollow Mountain or the Inveraray Jail. The abundant wildlife includes porpoises, dolphins, basking sharks, otters, deer and a wealth of seabirds. Tranmire Cottage is beautifully furnished throughout, with an authentic country charm. Careful attention to detail means it is both very well-equipped and comfortable. It also has the most fabulous freestanding roll top bath with a rain shower over - a grand feature, and great for relaxing in after a day out.
The cottage sleeps six in three bedrooms, with up to three dogs welcome to join you; there are many delightful walks nearby you and they will love. The owners provide route suggestions as well as walking maps and books, and a guide packed with information about the area.
Throughout the ground floor there is underfloor heating, ensuring the large reception area can be used for drying as well as storing outdoor gear if necessary. The living room also has a large range with an open fire, great for cosying up in the winter months. This room bathed in light from the large sash window with window seat, which looks out into the lawned garden and secure paddock beyond, which is shared with the neighbouring owners. There is a dedicated seating area and BBQ within the garden, so that guests can make the most of sunny afternoons during their stay. You can collect eggs from the hens which can stay in a secure paddock or free range, depending on guest requirements.
The quintessential country kitchen is ideal for creating home-cooked meals using these eggs or other fresh local ingredients from the many farm shops in the area. Savour time together around the dining table, planning the events for the days ahead over dinner.
Up on the first floor you have the most incredible master bedroom featuring that bath, as well as a king-size bed and a separate ensuite room with a toilet and washbasin. There is then also a double bedroom as well as a twin bedroom, both with wardrobes and drawers and served by a family bathroom which has a bath with shower over. All rooms have radiators or heated towel rails. Each bedroom is beautifully themed and named after different nearby dales: Rosedale – just to the North, the heart of the moors, Farndale – renowned for the blankets of daffodils that stretch out along the river through the spring, and Ryedale – which makes up the Vale of Pickering to the south.
Within Lastingham there is a historic church, several holy wells, and a village hall where community events, all open to visitors, are held. The Blacksmith’s Arms is extremely popular with locals and travellers alike for the quality and value of their food. Dogs are welcome in their large beer garden which has shelters and heaters, and a wood-fired pizza oven.
Lastingham is two miles from Hutton-le-Hole, creating a popular circular walk. That picturesque village has a deli/bakery, pub, teashops, craft workshops and the Ryedale Folk Museum. Nearby are the market towns of Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside and Pickering - all with attractive market squares, independent shops and quaint tea rooms. Malton, Yorkshire’s Food Capital, is only half an hour away, with regular markets and festivals.
The heritage steam railway from Pickering passes through Goathland and Grosmont on its way to Whitby – all great for a stop. English Heritage properties nearby include the castles at Pickering and Helmsley, the superb Rievaulx Abbey and Wheeldale Roman Road. Castle Howard, Eden Camp, the National Centre for Birds of Prey, and the National Trust’s Nunnington Hall are also popular attractions within easy reach.
About 45 minutes away you have the incredible Yorkshire Coastline to discover, with picturesque villages and towns, sandy beaches and hidden coves to explore. Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Scarborough all make for a fabulous day out during your stay. The popular tourist town of Callander is within easy driving distance and has an abundance of coffee shops, pubs, galleries, local shops and restaurants. An all year round destination, the town hosts summer and winter festivals, highland games and a jazz festival. For days out, Stirling, with its historic monuments, ancient castle and shopping centre is a mere 45 minutes’ drive. Loch Lomond, the single biggest expanse of inland water in the British Isles, has charming villages and bays to explore and is also 45 minutes’ drive from the cottage. Gleneagles is 50 minutes’, the cosmopolitan city of Glasgow, Perth and Edinburgh is just over 1 hour away. Shop 2 miles, pub 1 mile and restaurant 2 miles.

Storey Farm Cottage is a cosy converted barn with stunning uninterrupted views down the valley. Sleeping up to six people and two well behaved dogs, it is set in a remote hamlet of Hartoft in the North York Moors National Park. Set on a small hill farm in 38 private acres, it is a perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Watch the wildlife from the patio or you could just unwind and enjoy the peace.

Once one of the farm buildings, is now a perfect semi-detached holiday cottage in the beautiful countryside of Hartoft, near Pickering. Set in 38 acres of private farmland with fields that are interspersed with woodland and streams. This peaceful secluded location has a wonderful view across the valley where there is a chance to see an abundance of wildlife including deer, foxes, owls and badgers. The cottage is spacious and benefits from having two bathrooms, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor. The cosy living room is welcoming with a wood burner for those winter walking breaks, curl up after a day walking the many trails around the cottage. Storey Farm Cottage is situated on the edge of Cropton Forest where you will find an abundance of walks and bike trails, as well as lots of wildlife. Dalby Forest is also just a short drive, home to one of the World Cup mountain bike trails. Challenge yourself with exhilarating runs, or for those who just want a leisurely bike ride or walk, there are acres of woodland paths to enjoy. Dalby Forest is also home to ’Go Ape’, a fantastic tree-top adventure activity course with zip wires, high ropes and challenging obstacles.

Rosedale Abbey is just over 3 miles from the cottage, once an industrial village with a thriving mining industry of iron ore, now a very pretty traditional Yorkshire village with a village green, stunning countryside and great cafés. It’s very popular with walkers and cyclists who often stop for their break on the village green and enjoy the local produce. The town of Pickering is a 10-minute drive, and home to the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway. Here you can catch the steam train across the moors from Pickering to Whitby, stopping off at Goathland and Grosmont, both featured in the TV programme ’Heartbeat’.

North Yorkshire is famous for its market towns and you are perfectly based with this cottage to visit them, including Pickering, Malton, Thirsk and Helmsley. These towns boast many independent shops, eateries and farmers’ markets. For those who enjoy the coast, Whitby is around a 30-minute drive away, a resort that is as popular in the winter as it is in the summer. Whitby Abbey is the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s book ’Dracula’ and is perched on the hillside overlooking the town. Beach 18 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.

This charming detached cottage is set in an elevated position with panoramic views from the grounds towards the sea at St Cyrus. A steep meandering walk down the hill to the beautiful beach starts from the cottage, and there are fine views over the bay towards Montrose Basin as you go down. The cottage is in a secluded position yet next to two other properties and has its own private, enclosed rear garden. The cottage is bright, fresh and welcoming with a wonderful living room with vaulted ceiling and beams where you can relax in front of the wood burner after an energetic day out.

St Cyrus’ beach is a renowned conservation area and visitors will love the wide sandy spaces, rock pools at one end and the opportunity to spot whales, dolphins, seals and otters which frequent the clear waters. Ornithologists are also well catered for, with the nearby Montrose Basin home to thousands of pink footed geese in winter as well as many other wading birds and seasonal visitors throughout the year.

Montrose itself has plenty of facilities including two golf courses, tennis and bowls, as well as being the venue for Mofest, an annual music festival which attracts big names as well as lesser known acts. Dundee is within easy reach for the culturally minded and a visit to the V&A Museum is a must, as well as the RRS Discovery or a trip to the theatre. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

West End Farmhouse stands proud in the peaceful village of Ulrome, close to the beautiful rugged Yorkshire Coast. This detached holiday property is excellent for families, as there is a very large garden for the children to run around in and a little Wendy house for them to play in. There is also a fantastic terraced area, which is ideal for a barbecue, and in addition, a boot room with a stairgate and storage for bikes and boots. For people who enjoy fishing, the owner provides coarse fishing free of charge (fishing licence required) for the fishing pond, which is just along the lane. In 15 minutes, guests can walk from the property down through the village lanes to the beach. It provides an excellent base for those wishing to explore the east coast of Yorkshire and what it has to offer. Close by, visit the famous RSPB Bempton Cliffs, where you can observe puffins and gannets in their natural habitat. There are some fantastic walks and cycle rides along the rugged cliffs of the east coast, some of it being part of the Cleveland Way. Just 8 miles down the coast, visit the hustle and bustle of the traditional seaside resort of Bridlington. With its working fishing port, you can see the catch brought in on the quayside. There is also a large sandy beach and rock pools for the kids to go crabbing. The famous Spa theatre also provides excellent entertainment throughout the year. Guests can take a short land train journey to Sewerby Hall and Gardens, just one of the many stately homes in the area. Burton Agnes and Sledmere are also worth a visit and for those who would like a trip out; you have the fantastic medieval city of York, which is just over an hour away. The beautiful market town of Beverley is just a 30-minute drive away, where you can browse the local shops or even visit the racecourse. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Orchard Barn is a luxurious and spacious three-bedroom barn conversion just outside the small village of South Tawton. Set on a working farm close to Dartmoor National Park, it has been lovingly renovated by the owners in 2021 and lies in a rural setting.

Greve Cottage is just 2½ miles from St Cyrus, 4 miles north of the bustling seaside town of Montrose and 30 miles south of Aberdeen. RHS Rosemoor Gardens, Docton Mill and Hartland Quay are well worth a visit, along with many pretty fishing villages to explore, including nearby Instow and picturesque Appledore.
