Brewers Cottage nestles in the grounds of Cropton Brewery in the sleepy hamlet of Cropton within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Dating back almost 200 years this terraced holiday cottage offers modern, contemporary accommodation, yet retains many of the original features. The brewery was developed in 1984 and offers tours to sample some of the fine ales on offer. Ideally located for walking, cycling and exploring the heather clad moors. If coastal walks and stunning beaches are in order, you’ll find the Heritage Coast just 18 miles away, including Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. Horcum View is a holiday bungalow located in the heart of Lockton with views over the North Yorkshire Moors. Peaceful location, with the occasional sound of the steam train chugging its way through the valley. Take a journey on the steam train (Levisham station ½ mile) through the heart of the National Park. North Yorkshire Moors are home to abbeys, castles and cycle/bridle paths. Swallowholm is a very homely, Grade II listed, stone built miner’s cottage set in a small hamlet in Arkengarthdale, surrounded by magnificent views. Ideally placed for walking, horse riding, fishing or just relaxing. A short stroll away is an 18th-century inn serving cask ales and excellent local food. Nearby Reeth (4 miles) has a selection of pubs, shops and quaint tea rooms, whilst Richmond market town with Georgian theatre, castle, museum and golf course is a short drive away, or make a breathtaking journey over the Stang to Barnard Castle. Among Scarborough’s many attractions are a Sea Life Centre and Theatre in the Round (offering productions and films for all ages) as well as plenty of restaurants, cafés and evening entertainment. Sea trips are available from the harbour and coarse fishing is enjoyed at nearby Throxenby Mere.
The Forge Valley Woodland Reserve lies ½ mile walk from the cottages and quiet lanes lead directly to Langdale Forest. Golf courses and riding stables are found locally and the more energetic might like to tackle the nearby Cleveland Way long distance footpath, with its stunning views over land and sea. The inviting moorland countryside and picturesque villages of ‘Heartbeat’ fame are a joy to explore and a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway is a must.
A 30-minute drive up the coast leads to the many delights of Robin Hood’s Bay and the old port of Whitby, a fascinating historic town, traditionally associated with Count Dracula and in whose attractive harbour tall ships often lie at anchor. The great houses of Sledmere, Burton Agnes and Castle Howard are all within 20 miles of the cottages.
