Close by is Middleham, with its famous castle and horse training stables as well as West Witton, with its award-winning restaurant and onwards towards beautiful Aysgarth Falls and the bustling market town of Hawes. Driving up to Swaledale, visit Reeth and Gunnerside or further up the dale to Muker, enjoying some amazing walks and breathtaking views along the way. Paddock House is a beautiful detached, stone-built bungalow situated in Middleham, Wensleydale, nestled away peacefully just behind Middleham village square. Perfect for horse lovers, Middleham is renowned for its long history and also serves as a thriving racehorse community. Guests will be able to watch as top class racehorses are ridden daily through the village and up to the gallops in the fields at the edge of the village. The extremely popular Middleham Open Day is held annually on Easter Monday when you can take a look around the racing stables too! Middleham Castle lies just behind Milton House and was once the home of Richard III, and was referred to in former times as the ’Windsor of the North’. Middleham is a great place for families too with plenty of attractions to visit and explore within a short driving distance.

If you’re looking to get out and stretch your legs, guests who enjoy walking, cycling or even just exploring will find an abundance of established public footpaths, cycle paths and bridleways that lead right from the village itself through the Dales and beyond, with spectacular scenery, open countryside and pretty little Yorkshire villages. Just 5 miles west of Leyburn, and on the very edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Redmire village is like a picture postcard, with country walks and some spectacular views over Lower Wensleydale. Superb walking and cycling is available direct from the door, a perfect base from which to explore the pretty Dales villages. Try the circular walk from Redmire to Aysgarth taking in both the Redmire Falls and spectacular Aysgarth Falls. Castle Bolton where Mary Queen of Scots was held in the 16th century is a stone’s throw away or enjoy a stroll through the Bolton Estate to Wensley that gave its name to the entire Dale.
Nearby are the market towns of Hawes and Leyburn with their many shops, pubs, restaurants and craft workshops where craftsmen display their skills and sell hand made products. Welcome to Mission Room Cottage, a charming, detached stone cottage with a perfect blend of traditional and contemporary style situated in a picturesque dales village. Part of the Bolton Estate, Wensley has an excellent pub, conveniently close to the cottage, a beautiful church, and should it be needed, a good bus link to the market town of Leyburn, less than 2 miles away.
The cottage, upside down by design, has a ground floor double bedroom with en-suite shower room, perfect for a couple. Upstairs is a stylish, open plan living area with vaulted ceilings, windows to both sides and roof lights making this a pleasant light filled space. Externally is a lovely south facing garden, perfect to enjoy a morning coffee or glass of wine at the end of your day. Guests are welcome to bring one dog, although please note the garden is not enclosed. To the front of the cottage is parking for one car.
Please note the external staircase is mainly decorative. The main entrance to the cottage is on the ground floor, with internal staircase to the first floor. Wensley is conveniently placed to explore beautiful Wensleydale, enjoying stunning panoramic views towards Pen Hill and far-reaching views across the surrounding dales. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are some superb walking and cycling trails available direct from the door, making this a perfect base from which to explore the pretty Dales villages. Bikes can be stored in the shed in the garden. Fishing is also available very nearby on the Estate, subject to purchasing the necessary day tickets and environment licences.
