The secluded garden benefits from a York stone-flagged terrace, outdoor seating and a Victorian summerhouse. The renowned village inn stands just a few yards from the cottage and there is a highly regarded village shop/bakery and café. The stately home of Castle Howard is just a 5-minute drive away, a magnificent Baroque mansion, known to many as ‘Brideshead Revisited’ and the setting for ’Bridgerton’, with woodland and lakeside walks, an interesting programme of events, including a Christmas experience like no other starting from mid-November until the New Year, restaurant and an excellent farm shop.
Numerous walking trails lead from the doorstep and more can be found in the North Yorkshire Moors and by venturing east to the little-known gem of the Yorkshire Wolds. You are just a short stroll away from Scagglethorpe’s warm and welcoming village pub, the true heart of the village. There is also a nearby play park for young children. For history buffs Eden Camp is just 5-minutes away, a prisoner of war camp now transformed into a fascinating World War II museum. The stately home of Castle Howard is a short drive from the cottage, holding events throughout the year including the summer proms.
