Masham, renowned for the Black Sheep Brewery, is 10 minutes’ drive and Richmond with its Norman castle, Georgian architecture and thriving theatre is also easily accessible. Like most rural Yorkshire villages in this area there are free roaming sheep, which is part of the charm. As well as an abundance of wildlife including lapwing, curlew and red grouse which you are sure to encounter. Castleton is a typical, rural Yorkshire village with sandstone buildings which have been standing for centuries surrounded by the vast moorland of the North York National Park. You have a couple of friendly local pubs serving great home cooked meals, as well as a village convenience store, a little tea-room and a train station where the glorious Esk Valley line will take you to the coastal town of Whitby, stopping at scenic villages along the way.

Walk direct from the door over the nearby moors or take a 5-minute stroll into the nearby traditional market town of Hawes. Carr House farmhouse is set on a working farm, but only minutes away from the attractions of Scarborough and only 1½ miles from the well known surfing beach at Cayton Bay, which also welcomes dog walkers throughout the year. Visitors of all ages will enjoy the large landscaped gardens with a summerhouse, apple trees and barbecue, with a perimeter fence making it ideal for both children and pets. This detached farmhouse is ideal for touring the North Yorkshire coast, from Whitby in the north to Bridlington in the south.
