Magnificent Flamborough Head with its bird sanctuary is 18 miles. The historic sea port of Whitby (25 miles), where the legendary Captain Cook learned his trade, has a beautiful marina. The old town is a jumble of narrow streets, with ancient houses and little craft shops, and above the town, high on a headland, are the jagged ruins of Whitby Abbey, still an impressive sight. The Spital Craft Centre in Staxton, 2 miles, serves up a lovely Sunday carvery, and features Victorian streets with hairdressers, a beauty shop, village store, deli bakery and a tearoom. It’s open everyday and there is free parking. Almost opposite the craft centre is an award-winning fish restaurant which also provides takeaways.
    Inland is the market town of Malton, where a museum houses finds from the Roman camp which once stood here. Five miles to the west, Castle Howard, one of England’s grandest houses, is well worth a visit. Surrounded by magnificent parkland, it contains fine furniture and paintings, as well as Britain’s largest private collection of dress from the 17th-century to the present day. The attractive town of Pickering at the southern foot of the moors, is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway, which travels across Heartbeat country. The city of York can be reached in an hour or so, with its superb museums, excellent shops and splendid minster. Flamingo Land and Ayton Castle are also nearby. There is an excellent golf course at Ganton (2 miles) and first-class riding stables at Snainton (7 miles). Good pubs and restaurants can be found in the surrounding villages and there is a farm shop in Potter Brompton and another one just 1 mile away. Village shop 1 mile, supermarket 3 miles.

    Driftwood is situated in a peaceful residential area, with a tree-lined green between the picturesque rows of Victorian town houses. Stepping into the house and through the hallway, you are greeted by a large and welcoming open plan living and dining area.
    Two steps lead up to glass double doors which lead you out to a beautifully presented courtyard with ample seating. Fairy lights illuminate this area in the evening, creating a delightful space. Back inside on the ground floor there is also a well-equipped kitchen and utility area with a dishwasher, washing machine, dryer and everything else you would expect for a comfortable stay. Heading upstairs, there is a toilet on the landing before you reach the incredible master bedroom on the first floor. This generously sized room boasts wall to wall wardrobes, a kingsize bed and a modern spacious en-suite shower room complete with a dressing table.
    Further up on the second landing is another contemporary bathroom with a shower over the bath. A few steps lead to the first twin bedroom and a double bedroom. This has a separate office area, ideal for anyone who wishes to use their computer while on holiday. Stairs to the top floor lead to a further twin bedroom under the eaves with Velux windows. There is also a shower room and a games room which is sure to delight younger family members with its game console, toys and games. There are two sofa beds in here, a double and a single, which can be used on request.
    Plenty of take-away outlets, restaurants, bars, pubs and shops are within a short stroll of the house, offering a fantastic range of eating options. You can walk to the town centre, the beach, Scarborough Castle or Peasholm Park within ten minutes. A 5-minute walk across North Marine Road provides breath-taking views of the North Bay and Scarborough Castle, with benches where you can rest for a while. You may catch a glimpse of the pods of dolphins that are regular visitors to the coastline.
    A meandering path takes you down to the beach in less than 10 minutes. Once on the seafront over three miles of flat promenade provide the perfect opportunity to walk and explore all areas of the Victorian resort. Either head south below the hilltop castle towards the South Bay, Scarborough Spa and the Italian Gardens, or go north past rows of colourful beach huts towards the Sealife Centre and Scalby Mills. Buses operate continually along this route. Peasholm Park offers wooded walks, refreshments and a lake where boats and pedalos can be hired. The gently shelving, wide sandy beaches at Scarborough have won several awards for cleanliness and there are ample opportunities for surfing and paddle-boarding as well as boat trips for all the family.
    The resorts of Filey, Flamborough Head and Bridlington are further south, whilst to the north, Robin Hood’s Bay, Whitby, Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes are all very popular for day trips. The RSPB bird sanctuary is just along the coast at Bempton Cliffs where thousands of puffins, guillemots, and gannets perch along the rocks. There are viewing points from which to spot all the different breeds of seabirds that arrive every year, as well as the seals that sunbathe on the rocks below. Within an hour you can be in the medieval, walled city of York with its majestic minster standing proudly in the centre of the city. The narrow-cobbled streets, city walls, individual shops and fantastic museums make it an enjoyable day for all age groups. Take a trip on an open top tourist bus or river boat and learn about the history of the famous city. York can also be reached by train direct from Scarborough, so why not leave the car at home?     This is a great sized house for social get togethers; on the ground floor you have a large open plan living room with a dining table for eight so that you can enjoy meals together. Comfortable sofas in front of the TV are ideal for winding down after a busy day exploring. The adjoining kitchen is well equipped, making this a home from home where you can create all your favourite meals. There are four good sized bedrooms, all well-presented. Upstairs on the first floor there is a super king bedroom as well as a twin room. Up on the second floor you have a second twin room as well as a king bedroom. There are two bathrooms, one of the first and one on the second floor, both with baths with showers over. At the rear of the property you have an adjoining garage for your use as well as an additional parking space in front of the garage door, which is a great bonus in a popular seaside town where parking can be tricky.
    Just a few doors away you have a small convenience store, ideal for grabbing essentials as well as food and drinks. Cafés, restaurants, bars and an array of shops, as well as the train station, are all within a 5-10 minute walk away. Here in Scarborough there are two bays, North Bay Beach sweeps in a crescent lined with colourful beach huts from the Sea Life Centre nearby. You can walk from the North Bay all the way along the promenade to the busier South Bay. Both bays have lovely, large sandy beaches making them perfect for your family holiday. There is also Scarborough Castle and the funfair on the seafront. Peasholm Park is wonderful to discover, you can hire pedalos and rowing boats to go around the lake and see the stunning oriental gardens. Scarborough is famous for its theatres. There is an outdoor theatre which stages concerts by some of music’s big names, and then there is the Stephen Joseph Theatre which is famous for the premieres of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays. The Alpamare waterpark is great for all ages, with its fantastic wave pool and waterslides, as well as a large heated outdoor infinity pool. Keep younger children entertained with the ’splash and play’ area. For adults there is a spa where you can relax and be pampered. The heated outdoor pools are warm enough to enjoy through all of the seasons. Further along the coast you also have Ravenscar, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Bridlington to discover.
    There is so much to see and do you are sure to be spoilt for choice, this is a great destination all year round. For dog owners many of the cafés and pubs in this area welcome dogs, and there are some fabulous walking trails over the nearby National Park to enjoy. As well as Scarborough’s beaches you have the glorious coastline to discover – most of the beaches are either dog friendly or have dog friendly sections.
