Owned by His Majesty the King, in Right of His Duchy of Lancaster, Scalby Lodge is a collection of fifteen beautiful cottages situated in an idyllic clifftop setting near the elegant seaside town of Scarborough.

All the cottages are finished with fixtures and fittings of the very highest standard and have open-plan dining. Some have en-suite bedrooms. They offer an ideal location from which to explore both the North York Moors National Park and the glorious Heritage Coast of Yorkshire.

There is comfortable conservatory furniture in the front sun lounge that looks out onto the garden, a relaxing space to sit on an evening and watch the sun go down. It ideally suits the needs of all age ranges.

Perfectly located for outdoor enthusiasts with several fabulous walks within easy access from the cottage. For cyclists, the cottage comes with garage storage. For older children, there is a playing field adjacent to the village community hall, approximately 50 yards away, an ideal open space for ball games. To the front of the property is a raised south facing patio, a veranda with bench to sit and enjoy a quiet moment or spread out in the garden and enjoy al fresco dining with the barbecue, the perfect spot to sit and relax after a day of exploring. Alternatively the village pub is a stone’s throw away serving hand pull ales and locally sourced homemade food, and is a welcome meeting place for locals and visitors alike.

Situated in the attractive and traditional old village of Carlton-in-Coverdale, one of the Yorkshire Dales best kept secrets. From its elevated position it looks out across the fields towards the hills beyond, and the River Cover runs through the valley below. Carlton sits beneath Roova Crags to the south and Penhill to the north. Nearby attractions include the Forbidden Corner, a great day out for all the family with its adventure gardens and restaurant. The bustling market town of Leyburn is 6 miles away, with an array of restaurants, cafés, pubs and two supermarkets. The village of Middleham, 4 miles, also boasts several pubs, restaurants and a well-stocked local shop. It is a lovely village renowned for its famous racing stables, ’The Gallops’, and its Norman castle which dates back to 1190. Head further up into Wensleydale to the market town of Hawes calling en-route to take in the spectacular site of Aysgarth Falls. Beach 51¼ miles. Shop 4 miles, pub 50 yards and restaurant 3 miles.

Cherry Garth is a beautiful detached cottage, perfect for a family getaway. Boasting stunning views of the North York Moors National Park and an enclosed garden that wraps all the way around the property, it is perfect for your furry friends to enjoy. Inside there is a well-equipped kitchen and dining area for the family to enjoy, and a comfortable living room with a wood burner that leads onto the sun room which runs the length of the front of the property. There are three large bedrooms and a small single to choose from.

The village of Goathland is just a short walk away, made famous in TVs ’Heartbeat’ where it was known as Aidensfield, it still has that feeling of stepping back in time. You will see plenty of Aidensfield in the village including the traditional local pub and village stores, as well as a steam train station which is famous in its own right as Hogsmeade in the Harry Potter films. There are a number of tea rooms to enjoy, and the local area has a restaurant and bar as well as its own waterfall.

There is an abundance of walkways and cycle routes to enjoy all across the National Park to suit all levels of difficulty, from amateur to championship level routes. The ’Rail Trail’ from Goathland to Grosmont combines a signposted 3½ mile walk down the old railway line, passing the smallest pub in the National Park in nearby Beckhole. You can even catch a ride back up on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The moors are full of wonderful villages with traditional pubs offering a warm welcome and good food, ancient abbeys and historic market towns.

The Yorkshire coast is simply stunning with hidden bays and coves, such as Robin Hood’s Bay, Staithes and Sandsend. Whitby is just 9 miles away and is definitely worth a visit with its historic abbey stood proudly over the town. Climb the 199 steps to the top in search of Dracula’s gravestone and enjoy the views out to sea, or explore the cobbled back streets with independent traders, coffee shops and delis. There are restaurants from around the world, award-winning fish and chips and traditional ice cream shops. Take a pleasure cruise out in search of minke whales and dolphins, or hop on the open top bus. Neighbouring Scarborough boasts two long bays, a water park and the open air theatre which attracts international stars throughout the summer months. With dog-friendly beaches, stunning historic sites and lots of pubs and cafés fit for humans and hounds, the North York Moors has got everything you need for a dog-friendly holiday. Beach 9 miles. For those who love the country life and the great outdoors, this is a great place to stay. This detached barn conversion is situated in the North York Moors National Park in a secluded valley and surrounded by forest and beautiful countryside. Whisperdale Barn is situated on the owner’s smallholding and is accessed via a steep, rough forest track which may not be suitable for low vechicles down into the valley. The drive through the forest to the farm and Whisperdale Barn is approximately 1 mile of forest, but once you reach the valley the scenery is stunning and is a well-kept secret from the outside world. The barn has a great large utility room where you can dry the dogs off after a long walk on the forest trails or it makes for great storage for bikes. This is also a perfect space for bringing the children back from playing in the forest, kicking off their wellies and cleaning them up before enjoying the lovely warmth from the large multi-fuel burner.

This area of the county has some of the most beautiful scenery and an abundance of wildlife. From the barn you may see the deer in the distance, foxes, owls and many pheasants that will wander around the smallholding. You really are at one with nature here so a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Although the barn is in the forest, you are only 5 miles from the seaside town of Scarborough, which is a great family resort with two very large sandy beaches, perfect for the children. Scarborough is also home to the Alpamare Waterpark, Sealife Centre and the wonderful Peasholm Park, where you can hire boats and pedalos on the lake. There are lots of restaurants, shops and bars, as well as a fantastic open air theatre, the largest in Europe, that hosts many international acts in the summer. Dalby Forest is just a short drive or bike ride from the cottage, and is famous for its world cup mountain bike trails from beginners to the extreme courses. There are over 8,000 acres of forest, with many woodland trails to wander along with the dogs or the children, or both! Beach 6 miles. Shop and pub 4 miles, restaurant 3 miles.

Many walks and cycle routes for all abilities can be found here and all around the area. Country pubs serving local produce are within easy reach should you wish to dine out during your stay, with the closest just 500 yards away and easily reached via a stroll through the estate grounds. Top Lodge provides a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life but will come alive when filled with your family and friends, yet is within very easy reach of the main town of Skipton and surrounding attractions, what more could you want.
