Duck Cottage was once a workshop for local woodworkers; it has been lovingly renovated to delight guests on arrival. The original beams are still retained harking back to its former days.
    You are in an idyllic village setting, just opposite the heart and soul of the community - the village green and the friendly local pub, serving hearty meals with an outdoor beer garden. This is an ideal choice for those who love the great outdoors as you will be right on the doorstep of the Howardian Hills (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The owners have taken care to describe some of their favourite nearby walks as well as lists of different attractions to choose from in the welcome folder. You will be spoilt for choice, as there is lots to see and do in the area.
    The cottage itself is tastefully furnished throughout. The layout is all on the ground floor, with just one step in the living area down to the kitchen. The property is bright and modern, with skylights bathing you in sunshine. On entering there is an entrance hallway leading you to the master double bedroom. Branching off the hallway is the shower room. Then further down the hallway it opens into the living area. This is a carefully laid out and tastefully furnished room, ensuring your comfort and providing a welcoming space to unwind in an evening. The well-equipped kitchen also has a breakfast bar. The kitchen leads to a twin bedroom, which can be made up as a double on request. Outside is a garden room with sofa and TV and for those chiller evenings a stove to keep you cosy. Attached to this is a private patio area with garden furniture so that you can dine outside in the summer months, as well as an enclosed garden beside the neighbouring owners’ home with a lawn perfect for exercising your pet dog.

It is only 12 miles from the historical walled city of York, with medieval cobbled streets, Clifford’s Tower and many other attractions including the Jorvik Viking centre. The stately homes of Castle Howard, Newby Hall and Beningborough Hall are nearby, and Kirkham, Rievaulx and Fountain’s Abbey ruins are all worth a visit. Mother Shipton’s Cave at Knaresborough is a quirky day out, where you can see how the waterfall preserves objects by turning them to stone and hear tales of the ’witch’ who lived there. For younger visitors, Flamingo Land Theme Park and zoo is around a 45-minute drive away. There are also many outdoor activities to enjoy including golf, fishing at the nearby well stocked lakes, and zip lining through the treetops at Dalby Forest.
