The area is rich in wildlife and ideal for walkers. Whitelee Farm is an idyllic base for exploring the Roman wall, Lindisfarne, Alnwick Castle, Kielder Forest Park and the Scottish borders. Newcastle and Edinburgh are within an easy drive. Shopping in Otterburn and Jedburgh, both 15 minutes away.

The Bunker backs onto the trees at the rear side of this lodge park. The private hot tub is set on the south-facing sunny decking and is perfect in all seasons. In the evening enjoy looking out at the clear skies which can often seen from the lodge. The lodge park is set just within the Northumberland National Park, and is perfect for stargazers and keen photographers.

The Bunker has been designed with high quality in mind, ideal for friends and families. This modern contemporary-style lodge has TVs in all the bedrooms and plenty of natural light streaming in from the large windows.

It is not unusual to spot little red squirrels and other wildlife around the lodge and surrounding areas so keep your camera at the ready to witness the wildlife close up. The lodge park is set a mile from the very popular wedding venue Le Petit Chateau and nearby Woodhill Hall, so is just perfect for making a relaxing weekend of the occasion. The village store a mile away is ideal for last-minute shopping with a small off licence. The on-site restaurant offers delicious meals with a small bar (check opening times).

A little further afield, Kielder Water makes a fantastic day out with rugged moors and woodlands, perfect for adventure seekers. The observatory is a real must for star-gazing enthusiasts (booking essential). Bellingham is 9 miles away with a few cafés and a couple of pubs, a butcher, a bakery, and a large food store. If you have time to spare then you must take a trip over to the coast with miles of sandy beaches, friendly villages, and historic castles to explore.

Northumberland was the winner of the 2018 British Tourism Awards best place to holiday, so wherever you go in this diverse, unspoilt county you will be guaranteed a warm, friendly welcome and will want to return to what is reputedly the friendliest county in England. Maple Lodge was completed in 2019 and sits at the corner of a lodge park, with trees to two sides and offering a peaceful location. Relaxing in the 6-person hot tub is just perfect after a day exploring this magnificent county, which was voted the best place to holiday in the British Tourism Awards. The park is set just inside the Northumberland National Park, a Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park, and sitting in the hot tub star gazing is a real treat.

Maple Lodge is just under a mile from a pub, and the lodges are popular with visitors who love to relax after attending weddings at the nearby venue of Le Petit Chateau. The nearby shop stocks some local produce and is handy if you forget essentials. The on-site restaurant (open weekends usually) is ideal for a nice meal, otherwise the pub is always welcoming in the village. Maple Lodge is ideal for couples, families or friends who want to experience some country living away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The location is ideal for enjoying water sports on Kielder Water Park or visiting the observatory. Situated only 16 miles from the Border Counties, Maple Lodge is also perfect if you want to visit Scotland. The borders are steeped in history all relating to the battles between the Scots and the English. Nearby Bellingham, 9 miles, has a few shops, a butchers and pubs. Hadrians Wall is easily reached, and the Northumberland Heritage Coast make a great day out where miles of golden beaches dotted with castles await. Visitors are spoilt for places to go with so much to do in Northumberland. While you are in Otterburn make sure to visit Otterburn Mill, a great outlet for outdoor wear with a little café and some mill history. Reiver’s Rest (ref UKC3402) was completely renovated in 2018, with a private hot tub on the raised south-facing decking and backs onto the woodland in the top corner of the park, with walks from the door. With a fully renovated restaurant on site, the lodges are less than a mile from the centre of the village of Otterburn, on the very edge of the Northumberland National Park. The park is just inside the Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park, the largest in Europe, ideal for stargazers and astronomers. The village has a mill shop, and the shop/café sells local produce. A highly acclaimed wedding venue, Le Petit Château is easily accessed only a mile away and guests can enjoy staying in the lodges and having some downtime after the wedding. The long wooded drive up to the park sets the scene for your break away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Otterburn village has a friendly village shop stocking all the essentials including a wine selection, and nearby Otterburn Mill is a great outlet for indoor and outdoor wear and is popular all year around. The local tourist information centre is also located here. The small town of Bellingham is only 9 miles away with a golf course, cafés and pubs as well as a supermarket. The town has a quirky tearoom set in old carriages with a small visitor centre telling the history of the invasions from the Scots around the area.

The Northumberland Heritage Coastal route is easily reachable for a lovely day trip out where you can visit Alnwick Castle which was used in some ‘Harry Potter’ scenes. Northumberland is one of the friendliest counties in England and truly deserves the award in 2018 for the Best County to Visit in the British Tourism Awards. Take a trip into Newcastle and see the iconic Tyne Bridge or drive over to Hadrian’s Wall and visit some of the Roman Museums. Shop 800 yards, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Stonyfield Cottage is the ideal get away for couples, friends or families, It offers a tranquil and relaxing location with beautiful countryside views. Set on the outskirts of Rochester, within the Northumberland National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a designated Dark Sky area. The cottage is only a few hundred yards from the A68 up an old Roman road known as Bremenium Way. Rochester is very close to the popular, historical and picturesque village of Otterburn.
At the South-facing rear of the property, there is a large decked area with plenty of outdoor seating, looking out onto an expansive wildlife garden with far-reaching views towards Kielder Forest. The decked area also houses the hot tub where visitors are able to enjoy for the ultimate in relaxation and stargazing. In the winter months they can enjoy the most fabulous wood burning stove and cosy up in front of the large smart TV where you can enjoy Netflix and Amazon.
A sunroom and separate dining room ensure there is plenty of space for two families to spread out, along with a large living room and kitchen/diner. The area around Stonyfield Cottage is rural and unspoilt with lots of outdoor activities to enjoy including plenty of walks along the many footpaths and cycling around Kielder Forest and Kielder Water (which is only 15 miles via the Forest Drive route or a little further should you wish to take the main road route). Walking, Hiking and Fishing are particularly popular around the area. The Scottish Border at Carter Bar is a mere 12 miles so you can easily visit Scotland whilst holidaying at Stonyfield. The border towns of Hawick, Kelso and Jedburgh are also easily accessible from here. Of course, you will want to visit Hadrian’s Wall, maybe stop off at Housesteads Roman Fort or why not take a trip over to the Northumberland Heritage Coast, only 32 miles to Warkworth Beach where you can spend a wonderful day exploring castles and beaches up and down this golden coastline.
