The Byre is tucked quietly away but still enjoys the most amazing views of open farmland and the Galloway Hills. The comfortable sitting room has double aspect windows which leads to a very well-equipped kitchen and two comfortable bedrooms. The only thing that will disturb you is the sound of the birds, therefore if peace and tranquillity are what you are looking for, The Byre at High Kirkland is perfect. Take a walk from The Byre into the picturesque town of Kirkcudbright and take a stroll round the harbour and pop into the numerous shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants, and the impressive ruins of MacLellan’s Castle. The Soup Kitchen has played an important role in village life and the local community of Borgue over the last 150 years or so. You won’t find soup served in The Soup Kitchen today but you will find a stunning holiday home to call yours for the week.
This upside down house sits on the edge of the village and enjoys superb views. One particular feature is the spacious living room with floor to ceiling windows and patio doors opening onto a covered veranda, which makes the most of the views and is perfect for sitting enjoying the morning sun over breakfast. From the living room there is a kitchen, again allowing you to enjoy the views and a lovely dining room which overlooks the village. Venture outside and you will not be disappointed, a hot tub is situated in a purpose built cabin so you can enjoy the bubbles in rain, sleet or snow.
Starting life as a house, then a Free Church and a school, it then became apparent that there was no need for two schools in such a small community so it became a store. On the 5th of December 1844 the idea came about to ensure every child in the community had the opportunity to have a hot meal during the months of October to March, hence the name “The Soup Kitchen”.
Borgue is a charming little village with a local pub serving food so no need to cook, allowing you to really relax and enjoy the area. The village is close to many beautiful beaches, coastal walks and stunning rolling countryside. A short drive away will take you to Kirkcudbright, a lovely town on the estuary which still has a bustling harbour. Stroll through the town and visit Broughton House, once home to the famed Scottish painter E. A. Hornel. Kirkcudbright is known as “the artists’ town”, having hosted generations of painters, craft-makers and artisans, a culture that is still thriving today. The town attracts visitors throughout the year, drawn in by the harbour, the historic high street and the diverse range of annual events and visitor attractions. With sailing, swimming, riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports all close by there is sure to be something for everyone. Close to the Galloway Forest Park, the first Dark Sky Park in the UK, and central to 5 of the 7Stanes, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers. Beach 3 miles. Situated on a working cattle farm, this pair of detached cottages are in the ideal location to explore Dumfries and Galloway, from the Galloway Hills and the Galloway Forest Dark Skies Park, with many hidden lochs, burns and waterfalls, to the beautiful coastline with sandy beaches, rocky coves and picturesque villages. You may even be lucky and spot seals and minke whales, and will most certainly see a host of seabirds.

The area is steeped in history and the landscape diverse, a haven for artists, birdwatchers and walkers. The Mull of Galloway, with its lighthouse and grass topped visitor centre, is Scotland’s most southerly point with amazing views of Ireland, England, the Isle of Man and Scotland! Wigtown Bay Local Nature Reserve is the largest local reserve in the UK. It has internationally recognised, significant numbers of pink-footed geese, greylag geese, many species of duck and wading birds, visiting in autumn and winter.

Terraughtie Cottage East is a delightful semi-detached cottage set along an unclassified road, on the outskirts of Dumfries, offering a lovely countryside location yet close enough for a lovely walk or cycle into town, around the local countryside or on the nearby cycle pathways. Terraughtie Cottage East has been completely renovated and modernised throughout in 2020 and offers the perfect and most comfortable home from home. There is a cosy wood burner in the sitting room just perfect for those chillier nights, and new and modern bathrooms and kitchen. The large gardens are the ideal playground for kids with plenty of space for them to enjoy whilst the adults relax. What better way to relax?
Only a few minutes’ walk from Terraughtie Cottage East is Kilnford Kitchen and Farm Shop. Before enjoying a bite to eat take a stroll through the nature trail where you can see belted Galloway cows or partake in a spot of bird watching from the bird hide. There is a secret garden where younger members of the family will love exploring. The farm shop stocks everything from gifts and flowers to takeaway meals. There is even an adventure playground for the children.
If fishing is your passion you can walk/cycle easily to Auldernauk Fishery from Terraughtie Cottage East, a most attractive and well stocked three acre fly-only loch holding good sized rainbow, blue, brown and tiger trout! A quiet and friendly family-owned fishery run by anglers.
If you can tear yourself away for a day sightseeing, the area is renowned for its rugged beauty from beautiful sandy beaches, cliff top walks and forest trails. The world renowned 7stanes mountain biking routes are also within easy reach. The area is well recognised for its clear skies as one of the 12 best stargazing sites in the world, with the Galloway Forest Park being the first Dark Sky Park in the UK. Situated just a few miles from the market town of Lockerbie, which provides all local amenities including some lovely little shops and restaurants. Lockerbie has a train station if you fancy a day trip to Edinburgh or Glasgow. However, Dumfries and Galloway is so beautiful there is plenty to keep you entertained during your stay at Curlew Cottage. The area boasts rugged coastlines and secluded sandy beaches with many beautiful gardens to explore. What a little gem of a cottage! The Haven is an absolute joy and has been completely refurbished in 2020, offering the most delightful accommodation. The living room has a lovely wood burner and the kitchen/dining room are both modern and spacious, yet retain a lovely cottage feel. The garden to the rear can be accessed from the kitchen with seven steps leading down from the balcony and the garden is enclosed.
From The Haven some of you may be in heaven again, as 200 yards along the road is Bladnoch Distillery, which has a large visitor shop and offers guided tours. Just across the road from the Distillery is a lovely country pub and restaurant. Only a mile away is Wigtown, known as Scotland’s book town, which provides a variety of shops, galleries, tea rooms and a pub.
