This spacious cottage, originally the old dairy house, is set on a working farm specialising in prize winning Belted Galloways and has lovely views over open countryside and a fantastic hot tub from which to relax and enjoy the views. Situated next door to the owner, the cottage is only a 5-minute drive to the popular town of Newton Stewart with shops, cafés, restaurants, a cinema and swimming pool. The location is very popular with walkers and cyclists with Glentrool, Kirroughtree and the 7Stanes mountain bike trails nearby, as well as a great choice of golf courses.
Situated on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park and the Dark Skies Park, the cottage is ideally placed to explore the beauty of South West Scotland. There is an abundance of fishing, bird watching, beautiful and exotic gardens, many rocky coves, sandy beaches and quaint villages to explore along the Machars Peninsula. The towns of Wigtown, Scotland’s National Book Town, Castle Douglas, Scotland’s food town and Kirkcudbright, the artists town, with shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants are all within easy reach. Buckle House is set in the heart of the small thriving town of Gatehouse of Fleet, in this delightful and peaceful corner of Dumfries and Galloway. Buckle House gets its name from its past as it was once a shoe shop! This terraced house is warm and inviting from the moment you step through the door. From the cosy living room with comfortable sofas at the front of the house, to the snug where you can relax, heading into the lovely kitchen dining room with views over the garden. For a more laid back day there are delightful beaches within only a few minutes’ drive, including Mossyard and Carrick. The area has numerous walks available, from scenic coastal walks to forest trails. With sailing, swimming, horse riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports close by, there is something for everyone.
Warmed by the Gulf Stream, there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Garden (National Trust). Close to the Galloway Forest Park, home to the first Dark Sky Park in Europe, and central to 5 of the 7Stanes at Kirroughtree Forest and Dalbeattie Forest, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers. Kirroughtree has some of the best technical singletrack mountain bike trails in Scotland. Only a short drive away, Kirkcudbright, known as ’the artists’ town’, attracts visitors throughout the year drawn by the harbour, the historic high street and the diverse range of annual events and visitor attractions. The Snug is bright and spacious and on the ground floor there is a large and inviting modern kitchen/dining room, the perfect place to sit and enjoy a meal. The cosy living room with its high ceilings and lovely décor has a wood burner and comfortable sofas. The ground floor is completed with a large utility room, boot room and toilet. Upstairs at The Snug is beautiful, with two large bedrooms with clothes storage and bedside cabinets, both boasting beautiful en-suites with illuminated mirror cabinets and shaving sockets. All in all The Snug certainly is a treat and outside you can sit and relax on a fine day in the enclosed courtyard, so perfect for your four legged friends too.
