The window at the sink provides glimpses into the ’pleasure ground’, an area at Dunskey that is dedicated to our botanical walled garden, the vegetable garden, and the maze. The historic cobblestone courtyard at Coachman is one of its most charming features which will encourage you to linger in this enclosed outdoor space for reading and lounging in the sun. Just a few steps away is the lovely and utterly private walled garden. Upstairs, the master bedroom showcases a handpainted mural that is guaranteed to get hearts swooning. Super kingsize bed, eclectic artworks, and mid-century inspired furnishings ensure a comfortable stay. The bathroom provides a large walk-in shower and a full bath, and of course, always stocked with Dunskey’s own bath amenities. The second bedroom boasts an impressive wardrobe that will rival one of Marie Antoinette. Indeed, antique crowns and canopy over the two single beds will delight anyone who’s ever entertained the fantasy of living like lords and ladies on their own private estate. What a little gem of a cottage! The Haven is an absolute joy and has been completely refurbished in 2020, offering the most delightful accommodation. You really will not be disappointed when you walk through the door. The living room has a lovely wood burner and the kitchen/dining room are both modern and spacious, yet retain a lovely cottage feel. You will be spoilt for choice at The Haven, whether to sink into the deep bath or enjoy the dark skies in the garden from your very own hot tub. The garden to the rear can be accessed from the kitchen with seven steps leading down from the balcony and the garden is enclosed.
From The Haven some of you may be in heaven again, as 200 yards along the road is Bladnoch Distillery, which has a large visitor shop and offers guided tours. Just across the road from the Distillery is a lovely country pub and restaurant. Only a mile away is Wigtown, known as Scotland’s book town, which provides a variety of shops, galleries, tea rooms and a pub.

Rosebank Cottage is a traditional, characterful Galloway cottage refurbished to a high standard. Dating back to the 1800s, it retains many original features including cornicing and window shutters. The kitchen/dining room has an open airy feel and is warmed by a wood burner. Enjoy a meal around the dining table discussing your day’s adventures. The living room/snug also enjoys a wood burner, and with comfortable sofa and chairs makes the perfect place to spend a quiet evening curled up with a book. With an eye to sustainability, the house has wool insulation and has been painted with Farrow and Ball eco paint throughout, non-toxic eco cleaning products are also used.

Upstairs the bedrooms are spacious with stunning views from the bay windows to the front overlooking the garden and open farmland. All linen and towels are organic cotton.

Rosebank Cottage has wonderful outside dining to the side of the house and an enclosed patio area to the front with table and chairs. The front garden is also a haven for wildflowers and plants, helping create a natural habitat for birds, insects and wildlife. Enjoy sitting under the pergola or in the bird hide watching the variety of birds come and go.

Rosebank is situated in the coastal community of Borgue and only 5-miles from the popular tourist town of Kirkcudbright. Borgue has a welcoming village pub and restaurant (about 300m away) whilst Kirkcudbright and nearby Gatehouse of Fleet offer a wider range of restaurants, cafes and independent shops with local seafood restaurants and smokeries. The Solway Coast is close by with sandy beaches and rugged cliff tops to explore, while inland is the vast expanse of the Galloway Forest Park. From coastal walks and rolling countryside, Rosebank Cottage is the perfect location to explore the area by foot, bike or car. Within 10-minutes you can be at Brighouse Bay or Carrick Bay offering coastal walks, beaches and beautiful sunsets. The roads and tracks are perfect for leisurely cycles and walks.

There is an abundance of activities with sailing, swimming, riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including National Trust Threave Gardens and Logan Botanics. Central to 5 of the worlds renowned 7Stanes, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers. Kirkcudbright with its bustling harbour is a must for a visit. Stroll through the town and visit Broughton House, once home to Scottish painter E. A. Hornel. The town boasts Kirkcudbright Galleries, hosting art and historical exhibitions like the Galloway Hoard. Kirkcudbright is known as ‘the artists’ town’, having hosted generations of painters, craftmakers and artisans. The town attracts visitors throughout the year, drawn in by the harbour, the historic high street and the diverse range of annual events and visitor attractions. The popular programme of summer festivities culminates with the spectacular Tattoo.
Wigtown is about a half hour drive, known as the book town, it has no less than 20 bookshops plus a book festival in the Autumn.

Dumfries and Galloway is steeped in ancient history, with hill forts, cairns and battle sites never far away. Robert the Bruce spent a lot of time in the area. Robert Burns is ever present wherever you go, especially in Dumfries where you can visit his house.

Dalry is a small village with a local convenience store and an excellent pub and restaurant (booking advised). Set amidst some of the most stunning countryside from Bramble Cottage you have access to wonderful walking, the Southern Upland Way, a coast-to-coast path, passes through Dalry. With many quiet country lanes, cycling is ever popular and for the adventurous cyclists there are several of the world famous 7stanes mountain bike tracks within easy reach. The area is well recognised for its clear skies and is one of the 12 best stargazing sites in the world, and the first Dark Sky Park in the UK. At Bramble Cottage there is a lovely garden where you can sit outside and enjoy a spot of star gazing.
Why not take a short drive into the bustling market town of Castle Douglas, where you will find many independent little shops selling anything from delicious cakes and artisan food to jewellery and clothes. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from too. This unspoilt area of Southwest Scotland offers magnificent scenery, fine sandy beaches and rocky coves to explore. There are also many traditional fishing villages and harbour ports where you can wander round.

Indulge in a day of shopping and take a trip to Glasgow or Edinburgh, both just an hour away. There is more than 200 miles of fabulous coastline for you to discover with some stunning scenery, much of which you can discover on the Southwest Coastal 300. The area surrounding Brae Cottage is breath-taking, from the rugged coastlines and secluded sandy beaches, to inland The Galloway Forest Park, Britain’s largest forest park with 300 square miles of wild beauty and where you will find the world renowned 7Stanes Mountain bike trail at Kirroughtree. A short 5-minute drive from Brae Cottage will take you to the Isle of Whithorn, an attractive little harbour village where you can sail, fish, or just sit and relax overlooking the bay while perhaps enjoying a meal or glass of wine in the pub or tearoom.
Visit Wigtown, which has officially been designated as Scotland’s National Book Town with a wide range of book related businesses, a book lovers haven. The larger town of Newton Stewart, known as the Gateway to the Galloway Hills, also has many excellent shops and places to eat. Brae Cottage really is ideally placed to enjoy your stay whether it be a relaxing or action-packed adventure.

Loch View is a beautiful three bedroomed home situated on the popular Wig Bay Holiday Park and is the ideal place for families and couples to enjoy the stunning surrounding area. Situated on the western shores of Loch Ryan in beautiful Galloway, in one of the most desirable locations in the area, boasting breath taking loch views. Loch View is set back quietly on this lovely family run park and the beautiful interior is very appealing with the open plan living room with comfortable sofas, dining room and kitchen which comes well-equipped with a gas oven, hob and microwave. Outside on the decking you can soak up the sun it makes the perfect spot for your morning coffee or a nice glass of chilled wine. The park has something to cater for all ages the indoor soft play area or swimming pool (booking required) for the kids or the on-site bar and restaurant where you can enjoy a lovely meal.
This is the perfect location to explore the area. Visit Dally Bay where seals and porpoises can be spotted. Literally just cross the road take a walk to the shore on Loch Ryan and around Wig Bay and The Scar, a circular walk along the loch’s shoreline and back into the village of Kirkcolm. The Scar is a sandbank which juts out into Loch Ryan, and home to one of the largest colonies of nesting migrant terns in the region. From a historical perspective, during the Second World War, Wig Bay was used as a base for the flying Catalina boats, evidence can be seen of this on a walk along the bay. Noted for its spectacular coastline, the area provides a vast range of opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast to include wonderful walks, coarse and sea fishing as well as shooting, sailing, coastal rowing and cycling and several excellent golf courses. Stranraer is just a few miles away where there are an array of shops and restaurants and the kids will love Agnew Park with its pedal boats, train rides, adventure playground and crazy golf.
