    Craigrannoch Cottage is situated on a quiet single track road leading into mixed woodland. This little Victorian cottage made of local Dalbeattie granite, nestles next to the owner’s home, and neighbours a wide expanse of National Trust meadows leading down to the sea. Turn right through Craigrannoch Cottage’s small wrought iron gate and within two minutes you are on Rockcliffe’s beach, a mixture of sand, shells and rock pools with safe bathing and boat ramp. From here you can walk along the breathtaking cliff path admiring the rugged coastline and wildlife, observing the nesting cormorants and guillemots on the cliffs and rocky stacks. Beautiful sandy beaches, distant views of the Lake District mountains and interesting smugglers coves make this a fantastic walk to Sandyhills, from where you can get the local bus back to the village.

    Turning left from Craigrannoch Cottage, the acclaimed Jubilee path leads you through deciduous woodland to the small village of Kippford with its little marina. After an ice cream and coffee in the café, or a meal and pint in one of the two village pubs, you can stroll back to Rockcliffe on the coastal path detouring, if desired, to the top of the Motte of Mark for far-reaching views of the bays and headlands (and magnificent sunsets).

    When the tide is out walks open up on the estuary itself and you can explore Rough Island (out of nesting season), a National Trust bird sanctuary, and admire Rockcliffe from the sea. The famous 7Stanes mountain bike trails can be reached easily by forest tracks from the door of Craigrannoch Cottage.

    With bike washing facilities and lockable bike storage this is the ideal place to stay for your biking holiday with local bike hire nearby. Other local facilities include an 18 hole golf course, fishing, sailing and bird watching at nearby RSPB Mersehead nature reserve.
