Enjoying a wonderful setting with views over the picturesque town centre, harbour and out to open sea, these spacious, detached houses offer an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area. No 4 (UK5569) has stunning views over the sea from most windows, and also from the hot tub. No 7 (UK5736) is situated next door to No 8 (UK5770) and has a spacious interior with pool table and hot tub to the rear, while No 8 also with a hot tub, has a first floor living room with pool table, bar and French doors leading out to the balcony.
Portpatrick is perfectly placed to enjoy the challenging uplands of the Galloway Hills, to the more gentle seaside trails, rolling moors and dramatic cliff-top walks. The Southern Upland Way passing close by presents the ideal focus from which to enjoy the many and varied shorter walks within the region. The dramatic scenery is home to a rich company of flora and fauna, with many unusual species including pine martens, golden eagle, ospreys, red deer, red squirrels and the natterjack toad.
The area has many renowned gardens to visit including the Botanic Gardens in Port Logan. Wigtown, Scotland’s official book town, is home to a charming gallery, and excellent cafés, and is located only a few miles from Bladnoch Distillery, where visitors can sample the local malt whisky. For fishermen the area offers a wide variety of opportunities including sea fishing from Portpatrick, and both trout and salmon fishing close by. Other country pursuits are available including shooting and riding. Golfers will feel equally at home in this area with Stranraer, Portpatrick and Lagganmore golf courses within a 20-minute drive, while Turnberry, with its world famous course is only 45 minutes away and also offers a spa, off road driving, quad biking activities and restaurant facilities. For the more active there are numerous cycle routes set out in stunning forestry commission surroundings, and cycle hire is available at these centres. Sailing is available via the local marina, and for those happy to travel slightly further afield there is the Galloway Sailing Centre, where visitors can also try windsurfing, canoeing and power boating. The lodge is enviably located at the edge of the Galloway Forest Park, Britain’s largest forest park with three hundred square miles of wild beauty just waiting to be explored. The park boasts tranquil valleys, rugged rock faces, forest, moorland, lochs and ancient woodland alongside a huge diversity of wildlife including red and roe deer, wild goats and many birds of prey.

The park has also been awarded the status of one of only four Dark Sky Parks in the western world, and when the sun sets enthusiasts come to wonder at the universe revealed above. The Soup Kitchen has played an important role in village life and the local community of Borgue over the last 150 years or so. You won’t find soup served in The Soup Kitchen today but you will find a stunning holiday home to call yours for the week.
This upside down house sits on the edge of the village and enjoys superb views. One particular feature is the spacious living room with floor to ceiling windows and patio doors opening onto a covered veranda, which makes the most of the views and is perfect for sitting enjoying the morning sun over breakfast. From the living room there is a kitchen, again allowing you to enjoy the views and a lovely dining room which overlooks the village. Venture outside and you will not be disappointed, a hot tub is situated in a purpose built cabin so you can enjoy the bubbles in rain, sleet or snow.
Starting life as a house, then a Free Church and a school, it then became apparent that there was no need for two schools in such a small community so it became a store. This spacious cottage, originally the old dairy house, is set on a working farm specialising in prize winning Belted Galloways and has lovely views over open countryside and a fantastic hot tub from which to relax and enjoy the views. Situated next door to the owner, the cottage is only a 5-minute drive to the popular town of Newton Stewart with shops, cafés, restaurants, a cinema and swimming pool. The location is very popular with walkers and cyclists with Glentrool, Kirroughtree and the 7Stanes mountain bike trails nearby, as well as a great choice of golf courses.

Terraughtie Cottage East is a delightful semi-detached cottage set along an unclassified road, on the outskirts of Dumfries, offering a lovely countryside location yet close enough for a lovely walk or cycle into town, around the local countryside or on the nearby cycle pathways. Before enjoying a bite to eat take a stroll through the nature trail where you can see belted Galloway cows or partake in a spot of bird watching from the bird hide. There is a secret garden where younger members of the family will love exploring. The farm shop stocks everything from gifts and flowers to takeaway meals. There is even an adventure playground for the children.
If fishing is your passion you can walk/cycle easily to Auldernauk Fishery from Terraughtie Cottage East, a most attractive and well stocked three acre fly-only loch holding good sized rainbow, blue, brown and tiger trout! A quiet and friendly family-owned fishery run by anglers.
If you can tear yourself away for a day sightseeing, the area is renowned for its rugged beauty from beautiful sandy beaches, cliff top walks and forest trails. The world renowned 7stanes mountain biking routes are also within easy reach. The area is well recognised for its clear skies as one of the 12 best stargazing sites in the world, with the Galloway Forest Park being the first Dark Sky Park in the UK.
