Conheath Gatelodge is a traditional Georgian cottage with many original features, whilst Martha’s Shore Cottage was an original fisherman’s cottage dating back to 1700 - generations of Martha’s artistic family lived here and her father was the stone mason for the farm estate, and cut stone for the owner’s farmhouse. There are lovely riverside walks from the door with abundant birds and wildlife to spot. There are many quiet roads ideal for cycling, and excellent wildfowl salt-marshes surrounding Caerlaverock Castle, 3 miles away. Solway Firth is easily accessible. Dumfries, 3 miles, has good shopping, restaurants, cinema and sports facilities. Sandy beaches, quaint fishing villages, castles and nature reserves within easy reach. Sherauchie is situated in the popular coastal village of Southerness and has undoubtedly some of the most outstanding views of the Solway Firth to the English Lake District. Explore the beach and the striking white landmark of the lighthouse, built in 1749, or challenge yourself on the championship golf course, both only a short stroll from Sherauchie. Further afield the area has something to offer everyone from walking, sailing and mountain biking at the world famous 7Stanes range at Mabie Forest or Dalbeattie Forest. With an abundance of historical sites throughout the region and many fun filled activities for adults and children alike, from adventure playgrounds, Farm Parks to Gin Tasting! Gullsway is a spacious, detached house set in private gardens, enjoying an elevated position on the edge of Glencaple with a modern glass sun room and outstanding views over the Nith estuary and Criffel in the background. Gullsway offers spacious accommodation for a large family or a group of friends. The kitchen/dining room is a real social space, which in turn leads to the living room with its double aspect windows. The real gem however is the location and view itself, which not only offers an excellent level of privacy, but views over the estuary to the Criffel hill are breathtaking.

Gullsway is quietly set only a few hundred yards away from the small settlement of Glencaple in this beautiful corner of South West Scotland, and is situated on the banks of the River Nith, which once served as a port for the nearby county town of Dumfries. Take a stroll along the quiet road to enjoy a meal or a drink with a view at the local pub/restaurant. Gullsway is nestled within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and only 3 miles from the majestic Caerlaverock Castle and Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve, which is home to the rare natterjack toad and regularly visited by barnacle geese and other migrating birds. This lovely property also makes an ideal base for exploring this glorious area either by car, bike or on foot, with excellent marked walks available for all abilities. Nearby, Moffat was once known as a spa town to rival the very best, and is still home to Scotland’s oldest pharmacy. Lockerbie, 5 miles, provides all the local amenities you would expect, and an ice rink with weekend skating in season. It also has a station offering good train services if you are wanting to explore slightly further afield to Carlisle, Edinburgh or Glasgow. Beach 19 miles. Quietly situated on the edge of the pretty town of Moffat, this charming holiday cottage forms a wing of the owner’s home, and was once where the pony and trap were kept. It has now been transformed into a welcoming, cosy haven for two. The bright and spacious living room has a wood burner and French doors looking out to the garden and there is a small courtyard garden to the rear. Moffat has a thriving arts and music scene, a good range of local shops, pubs and restaurants and is ideal for hill walking being on the Southern Upland Way. Ideally placed for touring the area, Edinburgh and Glasgow are 50 miles, spectacular St Mary’s Loch, 30 miles, and the Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall is just 10 miles away, while Drumlanrig Castle, near Thornhill is within easy reach. Your little ones are also well catered for with outdoor play areas nearby, and of course your four-legged friends have masses of walks to enjoy too. Another must for your children is a visit to Mabie Farm Park, which is nestled just below Mabie Forest, where you can feed the animals and see the Belted Galloways, alpacas, llamas and much more.

Further afield, this beautiful area of South West Scotland has so much more to offer, from the quiet sandy coves and cliff top walks to the many castles, such as Caerlaverock and Drumlanrig. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, the area has plenty of beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens (National Trust) and Logan Botanic Gardens, Scotland’s most exotic garden. A stay here would not be complete without taking a drive along the coast and a wander round the little seaside villages of Southerness, Rockcliffe and Kippford. Beach 13 miles. Woodend is a delightful, semi-detached cottage, situated on the fringes of the ancient Royal Burgh of Dumfries, in a semi-rural location, but with easy access to all amenities in the town. This lovely cottage is beautifully presented with all rooms being on the ground floor. Dumfries, the county town of beautiful Dumfries and Galloway, is the ideal place to base yourself. The town itself has much to offer including numerous museums, the Camera Obscura, Robert Burns’ house or mausoleum - Scotland’s most famous poet spent the last years of his life here. Not far from the town, a visit to Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, a spectacular 1400-acre wild reserve, will keep you busy all day no matter what time of year. If you want to explore more of this beautiful area, there are attractions in abundance, from beautiful sandy beaches to dramatic cliff tops along the majestic Solway Coast. With sailing, swimming, horse riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports close by, there is something for everyone. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including National Trust Threave Gardens. Close to the Galloway Forest Park, home to the first Dark Sky Park in Europe, and central to five of the 7Stanes, at Mabie and Dalbeattie Forests, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers. Situated just a few miles from the market town of Lockerbie, which provides all local amenities including some lovely little shops and restaurants. Lockerbie has a train station if you fancy a day trip to Edinburgh or Glasgow. However, Dumfries and Galloway is so beautiful there is plenty to keep you entertained during your stay at Curlew Cottage. The area boasts rugged coastlines and secluded sandy beaches with many beautiful gardens to explore. Enjoy world-class mountain biking, walking routes, riding, fishing and birdwatching all within easy reach.

Moffat is a buzzing little town where a whole host of events are held throughout the year, from farmer’s markets to a classic car rally and Gala Week. There are many speciality shops and some delightful award-winning cafés in the town. Located on the scenic Southern Upland Way, Moffat is the perfect place for walkers, and the town was in fact Scotland’s first ’Walkers Are Welcome’ town! Horse riding, quad biking and golf are all available locally, and the 7stanes offers world class mountain biking across Dumfries and Galloway, and the Scottish Borders. Rod hire is available in town for three fishing lochs at the Green Frog Centre on the edge of Moffat, which also has an adventure play park and animal farm.
Further afield there is an abundance of delights on offer, from the many beautiful beaches and forests to historic castles and stunning gardens. There are more than 200 miles of fabulous coastline for you to discover with some stunning scenery, much of which you can discover on the Southwest Coastal 300. No stay in Moffat would be complete without a trip to the Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall, one of Scotland’s favourite waterfalls plunging spectacularly 60m into the valley below. Being only an hour away from both Glasgow and Edinburgh, perhaps indulge in a day of shopping.

As well as Port William, you can also explore quaint villages such as Sandhead, Portpatrick and the Isle of Whithorn. A must is a visit to Wigtown, which is famous for being Scotland’s National Book Town, a book lovers haven. The Mull of Galloway, Scotland’s most southerly point and home to the RSPB nature reserve, where thousands of seabird’s nests on the cliff face during spring and summer is definitely worth a visit.
