Still a working farm, The Stable has now been converted into a comfortable holiday cottage, refurbished in 2018, nestled in the Girthon Valley and surrounded by some of the best scenery in Galloway, with great walks, both woodland and coastal. Galloway has 200 miles of beautiful coastline, wild mountains and moorland, pretty towns and charming villages. The area also offers a wide range of activities for the whole family to enjoy, be it visiting the local ice cream factory, Cream O’ Galloway at Sandgreen or the CocoaBean Chocolate Factory at Twynholm. The cottage is only a few minute’s drive from the charming town of Gatehouse of Fleet which offers a wide range of places to eat and relax. This charming detached, single-storey cottage, with a beautiful garden, is situated only yards from the shore in the small hamlet of Kirkandrews. It is surrounded by stunning views over open countryside and only a couple of miles from the village of Borgue, with a local pub and restaurant. The nearest supermarket is 7½ miles away which offers a reliable delivery service.
Gullieside Cottage is situated only a short drive from the pretty harbour town of Kirkcudbright, locally known as the artists town, with many festivals throughout the year, including Scottish nights, classic car rallies, historic walks, a medieval fayre, a jazz festival and a spectacular Tattoo, as well as a good selection of pubs and restaurants. There is a large variety of outdoor pursuits on offer, including fishing, horse riding in Galloway Forest Park, cycling, golf and water sports. Threave Garden and Estate, owned by the National Trust, proves to be a popular visitor attraction. Trefoil Treat is a lovely little semi-detached cottage set on the edge of the small village of Rhonehouse close to Castle Douglas in this beautiful corner of Dumfries and Galloway. Trefoil Treat, originally three cottages, has been completely refurbished in 2022 and offers a relaxing and cosy hideaway where you can just sit back and relax.
Accessed through large wooden gates, Trefoil Treat has a open plan living/dining on the ground floor as well as a galley kitchen which has everything you will need to cook up a meal. On the first floor there are two bedrooms and shower room. The large hallway on the first floor is the perfect place to sit quietly, perhaps with a book, where you can enjoy the open views beyond Trefoil Treat.
Rhonehouse is a quiet little village around 2 miles from the market town of Castle Douglas. This small, delightful market town offers an array of independent shops selling produce and quality gifts and many lovely cafés, pubs and restaurants to enjoy a meal in, as well as excellent butchers and food shops for you to sample the local produce. On a fine day for the more energetic you can walk into Castle Douglas along quiet country lanes where you will pass NTS Threave Gardens a wonderful and beautiful garden and definitely worth a visit. Indeed there are an abundance of walking and cycling routes on your doorstep around quiet country lanes. You are ideally placed at Trefoil Treat for exploring this beautiful corner of south west Scotland. There are attractions in abundance, from beautiful sandy beaches to dramatic cliff tops. With sailing, swimming, riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports close by, there is something for everyone.
Close to the Galloway Forest Park, home to the first Dark Sky Park in Europe, and for the more adventurous cyclist amongst you can try your hand on the 7Stanes mountain bike tracks at Dalbeattie or Mabie Forest. For those with young children, there are a number of great days out, from some of the finest sandy beaches to farm parks, including Ernespie Farm Park just a 10 minute car journey. A wander round the lovely harbour town of Kirkcudbright is also a must, where you can visit Broughton House, home of the artist E A Hornel, and stroll down to the harbour where you can watch the fishing boats returning. The area has plenty to interest any age with its many and varied attractions in the surrounding area. From the many historic sites and castles spread throughout the region, to the rugged coastline with lots of little sandy coves, beaches and cliff-top walks to explore. Just along the coast is Powfoot, created in the 1790s as a sea-bathing resort. Set just above the beach, it has an excellent golf course, one of several along this coast. In July enjoy the spectacle of ’Annan Riding of the Marches’, a cavalcade of more than 100 horses riding through the streets of the town. From Kirklauchline Cottage there is a host of local attractions in the area for you to discover including the RSPB Scotland Mull of Galloway Nature Reserve, where thousands of seabirds nest in the cliff face during the spring and summer. There are many beautiful gardens to explore, including the world renowned Logan Botanical Gardens at Port Logan. This is also a great destination for cycling, fishing and golfing with St Medans 9 hole golf course and beach just 1½ miles down the road. This is a fantastic area for walkers, whether you are interested in clifftop, beach, hills or forest walks. There is easy access to The Galloway Forest Park, with its tranquil valleys, rugged rock faces, forest, moorland, lochs and ancient woodland, as well as a huge diversity of wildlife including red and roe deer, wild goats and many birds of prey. The park has also been awarded the status of one of only four Dark Sky Parks in the western world and when the sun sets, enthusiasts come to wonder at the universe revealed above. Dalmellington, at the far end of the park, is home to the Scottish Dark Sky Observatory.
The town of Stranraer, only 30 minutes away, offers a selection of shops and restaurants; a short distance further is Cairnryan, where the ferry can be taken for a day trip to Ireland. Beach 2 miles. Shop 4½ miles, pub and restaurant 6 miles.

Beattock is situated 2 miles from Moffat, a vibrant and bustling little town which attracts visitors throughout the year. With pathways from Broomlands why not take a walk into Moffat on a fine day and have a wander around the many speciality shops and cafés in the town. Of course you must sample the famous Moffat Toffee. Set in the heart of Upper Annandale amidst the beautiful southern upland hills it is a walker’s paradise with many routes starting from the town and taking in some beautiful lochs and valleys along the way. Broomlands Cottage is the ideal base to explore further afield but before you do take a short drive up to the Grey Mares Tail one of Scotland’s favourite water falls plunging 60 metres into the valley below, a spectacular sight.
As well as the hills and valleys, South West Scotland has more than 200 miles of fabulous coastline for you to discover with delightful little seaside towns and villages, beautiful beaches and dramatic cliff top walks.
