Kirroughtree Steading 2 has a lovely bright living/dining room on the ground floor, with patio doors opening onto the private enclosed garden. Also on the ground floor is a modern kitchen and shower room, whilst on the first floor there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin, and a family bathroom.
The location is very popular with walkers and cyclists with Glentrool, Kirroughtree and the 7Stanes mountain bike trails nearby, as well as a great choice of golf courses for any enthusiasts wishing to partake. Situated on the edge of The Galloway Forest and Dark Sky Park, the cottage is ideally placed to explore the beauty of South West Scotland. There is an abundance of fishing, bird watching, beautiful and exotic gardens, many rocky coves, sandy beaches and quaint villages to explore along the Machars Peninsula. The towns of Castle Douglas, Scotland’s food town, and Kirkcudbright, the artists town, boast shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants, and are both within easy reach.

Glen Isle is a delightful Finnish-style lodge which has been completely refurbished in 2020 and is warm, cosy and welcoming, With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, it’s ideal for couples or a family.

For a more laid back day there are delightful sandy beaches within only a few minutes drive, including Mossyard and Carrick. The area has numerous walks available, from scenic coastal walks to forest trails. With sailing, swimming, horse riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports close by, there is something for everyone. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens (National Trust). Close by is the Galloway Forest Park, home to the first Dark Sky Park in Europe, and central to five of the 7Stanes, at Kirroughtree Forest and Dalbeattie Forest, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers. The house makes an ideal holiday base for exploring the rich history and countryside of Galloway and for comfortable relaxation in sumptuous surroundings. It is situated just a stone’s throw from Carlingwark Loch and its Lochside Park where there are fine countryside walks and a play area for children. Yet Craigvar House is just a few minutes’ walk from Castle Douglas’s wide range of amenities, including an array of independent shops selling produce and quality gifts, a theatre, swimming pool, library, golf course, pubs, and plentiful opportunities for eating out.
Craigvar House offers spacious, well-equipped accommodation. Leading off the attractive hallway are the drawing-room and dining-room, and a small boot and coat room. At the rear of the ground floor is the kitchen, off which is situated the ground floor shower room. The rear entrance leads onto the pretty, fully fenced, dog-secure garden. The staircase leads to a half-landing off which is a cloakroom and a double bedroom furnished with a kingsize bed. The stairs then lead up to the first floor landing off which are two large double bedrooms overlooking gardens opposite. One bedroom has a kingsize bed, the other has two single beds. Each room has its own en-suite bathroom, the first with shower, the second with bath and shower. There is a small study at the end of the landing. On the second floor is a small sitting-room with comfortable sofa and chairs, providing a quiet space separate from the main reception rooms. Leading off it is a walk-in cupboard, really useful for storing those pesky suitcases.
From Craigvar House the Solway coast is within a short drive, giving access to safe sandy beaches, dramatic cliff-top walks, and wonderful coastal scenery. Fishing opportunities abound whether it be sea, coarse or game. There is a large choice of further outdoor activities in the area including bird watching, cycling, golf, hill walking, sailing, shooting, stalking, wildlife trails and woodland walks. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including the National Trust’s Threave Gardens nearby. Castle Douglas is close to the Galloway Forest Park, home to the first Dark Sky Park in Europe, and central to five of the “7stanes” - mountain biking heaven. Beach 13 miles.

Moffat is a buzzing little town where a whole host of events are held throughout the year, from farmer’s markets to a classic car rally and Gala Week. There are many speciality shops and some delightful award-winning cafés in the town. Located on the scenic Southern Upland Way, Moffat is the perfect place for walkers, and the town was in fact Scotland’s first ’Walkers Are Welcome’ town! Horse riding, quad biking and golf are all available locally, and the 7stanes offers world class mountain biking across Dumfries and Galloway, and the Scottish Borders. Rod hire is available in town for three fishing lochs at the Green Frog Centre on the edge of Moffat, which also has an adventure play park and animal farm.
Further afield there is an abundance of delights on offer, from the many beautiful beaches and forests to historic castles and stunning gardens. There are more than 200 miles of fabulous coastline for you to discover with some stunning scenery, much of which you can discover on the Southwest Coastal 300. No stay in Moffat would be complete without a trip to the Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall, one of Scotland’s favourite waterfalls plunging spectacularly 60m into the valley below. Being only an hour away from both Glasgow and Edinburgh, perhaps indulge in a day of shopping.

The Snug is a delightful cottage which has been completely renovated in 2022 and offers wonderful accommodation where you can sit back and relax and enjoy all the comfort of home and more. The Snug is bright and spacious and on the ground floor there is a large and inviting modern kitchen/dining room, the perfect place to sit and enjoy a meal. The cosy living room with its high ceilings and lovely décor has a wood burner and comfortable sofas. The ground floor is completed with a large utility room, boot room and toilet. Upstairs at The Snug is beautiful, with two large bedrooms with clothes storage and bedside cabinets, both boasting beautiful en-suites with illuminated mirror cabinets and shaving sockets. All in all The Snug certainly is a treat and outside you can sit and relax on a fine day in the enclosed courtyard, so perfect for your four legged friends too.
The small and charming town of Dalbeattie is an area hugely popular with walkers and cyclists of all ages. The world famous 7Stanes mountain trails at Dalbeattie Forest offer some of the best mountain biking in the country and attracts riders from across the UK and beyond. With its dramatic clifftops, sandy beaches and forests, walking is a delight with many beautiful walks from the doorstep. A must is a walk from The Snug to Dalbeattie Forest Town Walks where there are several trails of varying lengths. Golf is a popular pastime in the area and there are several championship courses within a short drive.
This delightful corner of south-west Scotland will tempt all ages to return. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens National Trust and many historical sites and castles to explore. Enjoy a drive from Dalbeattie along the Solway Coast with its extensive sandy beaches, rocky coves, traditional fishing villages and harbour ports, such as Kippford and Rockcliffe. Rosebank Cottage is a traditional, characterful Galloway cottage refurbished to a high standard. Dating back to the 1800s, it retains many original features including cornicing and window shutters. Rosebank is situated in the coastal community of Borgue and only 5-miles from the popular tourist town of Kirkcudbright. Wigtown is about a half hour drive, known as the book town, it has no less than 20 bookshops plus a book festival in the Autumn.

Dumfries and Galloway is steeped in ancient history, with hill forts, cairns and battle sites never far away. Robert the Bruce spent a lot of time in the area. Robert Burns is ever present wherever you go, especially in Dumfries where you can visit his house.

The area is well recognised for its clear skies and is one of the 12 best stargazing sites in the world, and the first Dark Sky Park in the UK.
