Just across the road from Coastal Kippford there is a small 9-hole golf course whilst there are several championship courses within a short drive. For the biking enthusiast a must is a day spent at Dalbeattie Forest, a couple of miles along the road, and home to one of the famous 7Stanes mountain bike trails including Ironhash, Moyle Hill and the red graded Hardrock Trail.
Further afield this beautiful corner of Dumfries and Galloway will delight all ages from historical castles, National Trust Gardens, and miles of stunning and dramatic coastline. The house makes an ideal holiday base for exploring the rich history and countryside of Galloway and for comfortable relaxation in sumptuous surroundings. It is situated just a stone’s throw from Carlingwark Loch and its Lochside Park where there are fine countryside walks and a play area for children. Yet Craigvar House is just a few minutes’ walk from Castle Douglas’s wide range of amenities, including an array of independent shops selling produce and quality gifts, a theatre, swimming pool, library, golf course, pubs, and plentiful opportunities for eating out.
Craigvar House offers spacious, well-equipped accommodation. Leading off the attractive hallway are the drawing-room and dining-room, and a small boot and coat room. At the rear of the ground floor is the kitchen, off which is situated the ground floor shower room. The rear entrance leads onto the pretty, fully fenced, dog-secure garden. The staircase leads to a half-landing off which is a cloakroom and a double bedroom furnished with a kingsize bed. The stairs then lead up to the first floor landing off which are two large double bedrooms overlooking gardens opposite. One bedroom has a kingsize bed, the other has two single beds. Each room has its own en-suite bathroom, the first with shower, the second with bath and shower. There is a small study at the end of the landing. On the second floor is a small sitting-room with comfortable sofa and chairs, providing a quiet space separate from the main reception rooms. Leading off it is a walk-in cupboard, really useful for storing those pesky suitcases.

Moffat is a buzzing little town where a whole host of events are held throughout the year, from farmer’s markets to a classic car rally and Gala Week. There are many speciality shops and some delightful award-winning cafés in the town. Located on the scenic Southern Upland Way, Moffat is the perfect place for walkers, and the town was in fact Scotland’s first ’Walkers Are Welcome’ town! Horse riding, quad biking and golf are all available locally, and the 7stanes offers world class mountain biking across Dumfries and Galloway, and the Scottish Borders. Rod hire is available in town for three fishing lochs at the Green Frog Centre on the edge of Moffat, which also has an adventure play park and animal farm.
Further afield there is an abundance of delights on offer, from the many beautiful beaches and forests to historic castles and stunning gardens. There are more than 200 miles of fabulous coastline for you to discover with some stunning scenery, much of which you can discover on the Southwest Coastal 300. No stay in Moffat would be complete without a trip to the Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall, one of Scotland’s favourite waterfalls plunging spectacularly 60m into the valley below. Being only an hour away from both Glasgow and Edinburgh, perhaps indulge in a day of shopping.

The Snug is a delightful cottage which has been completely renovated in 2022 and offers wonderful accommodation where you can sit back and relax and enjoy all the comfort of home and more. The Snug is bright and spacious and on the ground floor there is a large and inviting modern kitchen/dining room, the perfect place to sit and enjoy a meal. The cosy living room with its high ceilings and lovely décor has a wood burner and comfortable sofas. The ground floor is completed with a large utility room, boot room and toilet. Upstairs at The Snug is beautiful, with two large bedrooms with clothes storage and bedside cabinets, both boasting beautiful en-suites with illuminated mirror cabinets and shaving sockets. All in all The Snug certainly is a treat and outside you can sit and relax on a fine day in the enclosed courtyard, so perfect for your four legged friends too.

The world famous 7Stanes mountain trails at Dalbeattie Forest offer some of the best mountain biking in the country and attracts riders from across the UK and beyond. With its dramatic clifftops, sandy beaches and forests, walking is a delight with many beautiful walks from the doorstep. A must is a walk from The Snug to Dalbeattie Forest Town Walks where there are several trails of varying lengths. Golf is a popular pastime in the area and there are several championship courses within a short drive.
This delightful corner of south-west Scotland will tempt all ages to return.
