Even meal preparation has been considered too, with a hand-held food blender and bottle steriliser on hand. There are no low-level glass doors and all lower units are fitted with child locks. Westburn is truly the ideal retreat for greater peace of mind.

Great for walkers and cyclists of all abilities, from your front door there are many established public footpaths and cycle paths that lead directly out into the heart of rural Perthshire. The River Earn runs through the village and provides the perfect landscape for an afternoon stroll. For a more exhilarating walk, head to the Deil’s Cauldron where the River Lednoch cascades through a rocky gorge. There is a very scenic golf course, fishing, bowling and Loch Earn, 6 miles away, offering sailing and watersports.

For a family day out Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre is a short drive away and has much to offer all ages with a children’s play area, covered walkway to view the wildlife and a restaurant. Rowanlea is a delightful holiday cottage in the centre of the pretty village of Muthill, in the heart of the Strathearn area of Perthshire. This lovely property has been renovated to a good standard and thoughtfully furnished to provide everything you will need for a self-catering holiday. On the ground floor guests will find a cosy living room with a wood burner, as well as the contemporary kitchen/dining room with oak work tops, floor to ceiling windows and patio doors leading to the garden. There is also a garden room which is a fabulous place to relax and unwind, with a wood burner, perfect for lazy afternoons on cooler days. The floor to ceiling windows on three sides let the sunlight flood through and boast views over the garden. The first floor lays claim to three sumptuous bedrooms, all boasting fantastic views over the garden, as well as a family bathroom. The large garden has been thoughtfully designed, ideal for children to play or for the whole group to dine al fresco.
There is much to explore in Muthill, down the ancient lanes there is an old church dating back to the 12th-century, children’s play area, a renowned restaurant, café, ice cream parlour, local pub, shop and a 9-hole golf course. Crieff is only 3 miles away and is a great day out where you can visit a whisky distillery, crystal factory shop, deli and café selling local produce, craft shops, galleries, local shops and a super market. There are regular events throughout the year including the Crieff Highland Games and the Drovers Walking Festival. The area provides outdoor activities for all abilities, and if you prefer more strenuous activities, then mountains Ben Vorlich, Ben Chonzie and Ben Lawers provide excellent walking with water sports on Loch Earn and mountain biking. For the less energetic there are riverside walks along the banks of the River Earn and Turret. The area is also steeped in history with historic castles and monuments to visit. Famous for being in the TV show Outlander, Drummond Castle Garden is 2 miles away, as well as other locations seen in the show such as Doune Castle and Hopetoun House. Stirling, Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow are easily accessible for day trips. Attached to Lochearnside House where the owners live, the lodge was designed to make the most of the outstanding views with the contemporary open plan living space situated on the first floor. A cosy seating/dining area overlooks Loch Earn, and from the kitchen area, fitted with quality appliances, you can enjoy views of the hills while preparing your meal. You can even wake up to great views from your bedroom which is on the ground floor and has a kingsize bed and French doors which lead to a sitting-out area where you can enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of fizz. Loch Earn is located just across the road where you can enjoy use of the foreshore and private jetty.
Give your car a holiday too as there is much to do on foot from your front door. The local shop has a café and there are opportunities to indulge in some bistro style food or fine dining along with a good selection of wine and whisky. There are walks to suit all abilities from a gentle stroll along the loch side to more strenuous walks in the hills, and you can join the old railway route leading to Comrie. The local golf club, Sandy Lyle’s favourite small Scottish golf course, has a challenging nine hole course.
This area is the hub of many outdoor activities and ideal for tackling many of the Munros and Corbetts in the central highlands. Water sports, cycling, golf and fishing are all available in the local area and there is an abundance of wildlife to admire including deer, red squirrels and otters. Look out for the ospreys on the loch in season.
St Fillans and the surrounding area is steeped in history and folk law of clan battles, outlaws and fairies with many historic houses, gardens and castles to visit. To complete your Scottish heritage experience, visit one of the local whisky distilleries offering tours and tutored tasting sessions. Lochearnside Lodge is a good location from which to explore one of Scotland’s most scenic areas and a base to tour central Scotland. Perth, Stirling and Dunfermline are all within an hours’ drive. Dating back to the 1820s, this semi-detached property was home to the Co-operative manager during the 1900s. It was then purchased by the current owners in the 1970s, and recently refurbished in 2021. The house maintains many of the original features and character and is a comfortable and welcoming holiday home at any time of the year. The ground floor is taken up with a spacious living room, the real hub of the house, which has cosy seating. A dining room leads off there, and there is also a modern fitted kitchen. The back door leads to a small courtyard with seating and a barbeque for al fresco eating. The first floor has three well-presented, spacious bedrooms: one kingsize, one double and one twin. Step outside and the local pub, cafés and restaurants are a few minutes’ walk away. If you’re planning to cook, the village is known for its quality local butcher, greengrocer, baker and deli, and there is also a small supermarket. The whole area is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast and boasts many walks right from the front door, as well as cycle routes on quiet track to explore. Nearby Lochearn offers water sports. If you like a round of golf on holiday there is a local 9-hole course and many others in the area, including the championship courses at Gleneagles.
A little further afield Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre appeals to all ages, and is home to great fly-fishing ponds. The tourist town of Crieff is only a 7-mile drive, with a famous whisky distillery, visitor’s centre and historic buildings. Drummond Castle makes for a superb day out, dating back to the 17th century and sitting amidst stunning gardens which were used in the filming of the epic TV series ‘Outlander’. Stirling and Perth are only 25 miles away. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing escape to unwind with gentle riverside walks surrounded by magnificent scenery and fine places to eat out, or an adventure packed family Arden House is the perfect base.

Just 16 miles from Blairgowrie, Perth has a wealth of cultural activities to enjoy including theatre, cinema, museums and art galleries, as well as interesting boutique shops to browse round. Walking is a popular pastime round these parts with the Angus Glens easily reached and the Cateran Trail (a circular 60-mile walk) popular with hikers of all ability levels. Golf is well catered for, with the renowned Rosemount course just a 5-minute drive away. Gleneagles and St Andrews are further afield for those who like to really test their skills.
Edinburgh and Glasgow can be reached within a couple of hours for days out further afield. The slopes of Glenshee are close by and cater for many activities, including mountain biking, hang gliding and abseiling for the adventurous. Golf is also available nearby. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

This lovely detached log cabin, with a turf roof, has been carefully furnished throughout to provide stylish and welcoming accommodation. Its mix of contemporary furnishings combined with the wooden walls creates a warm and inviting home, perfect at any time of the year. The high ceiling in the living room provides a light and airy feel, whilst the cosiness of the wood burner is a real delight on colder days. The living room leads out onto the patio overlooking the decking. Its idyllic location, amongst a variety of trees in a secluded position, yet within easy access to the village of Kirkmichael, makes it a real haven for relaxation. Watch the variety of wildlife on the doorstep - plenty of red squirrels, roe deer and woodland birds who love the peaceful environment, can be easily seen. The property really is a hideaway, accessed by a non-tarmac track and in winter, the track can get snowy and icy. However, the owners are on hand should you need assistance.
From the sloping 3-acre garden, interspersed with pathways, there are excellent walks through the mixed woodland onto heath and moor which opens up to breathtaking views, perfect for hill and dog walkers. In particular there is the Cateran Trail – a 100 mile circular walk through the Angus Glens and Perthshire. Winter sports at Glenshee Ski Slopes provide extensive skiing and snowboarding facilities, and are located just a short drive away. The popular towns of Pitlochry and Blairgowrie are just 13 miles equidistant with a great variety of shops, a theatre, fine dining restaurants, cafés and a distillery, all well worth a visit. Golfers can test their skills on over 30 courses in the area, and for the more adventurous there is mountain biking, fishing and horse riding. Throughout the year many events are held in the region including The Strathardle Gathering every August (Highland Games), The Etape Caledonia Cycling Event in May, The Perthshire Open Studios and The Blairgowrie Book Festival in October, which can be enjoyed whilst staying in this lovely property.
