Relax and enjoy a well-deserved break in this idyllic little semi-detached cottage. Set in the tiny hamlet of Kettins just 1½ miles from the market town of Coupar Angus, it is a pastoral delight, with whitewashed walls surrounded by attractive gardens. The row of cottages are set up a few steps from a tiny village green with a small stream meandering past. Inside, the cottage has been tastefully furnished and retains some original features including arched doorways, high ceilings and wooden floors, with a cosy open fire in the living room leading through to a small kitchen/dining room. At the back the sunny sheltered patio slopes upward to a lovely lawn and is perfect for alfresco meals.
A walkers and cyclists paradise there are plenty of waymarked paths through arable countryside of the Vale of Strathmore through Meigle, Ardler and Coupar Angus to the more challenging glens beyond Blairgowrie. Renowned for its soft fruit, there are plenty of good cafes and restaurants nearby showcasing local produce, and a good range of shops locally and further afield in Dundee and Perth. Glamis Castle, the childhood home of H.M Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and the Pictish Stone Museum are well worth a visit and the cottage is within half an hour of the Cairngorms National Park. The ski slopes at Glenshee are a short drive and Pitlochry is within easy reach. Golfers have plenty of courses to choose from including Rosemount and Carnoustie, or explore the clean sandy beaches strung out along the east coast. Beach 19 miles. Crieff, 7 miles, is where you will find several amenities, including a popular delicatessen, cafés and a supermarket, as well as an array of shops. But, perhaps more appealing, is ‘The Famous Grouse whisky distillery’, at Glenturret, where you can take a tour – you might even get a taste! Several events are also held throughout the year, including ‘The Crieff Highland Games’ and autumn’s ‘Drovers’ Tryst Walking Festival’.

You will be in your element in this area if you are a fan of the outdoors, as the mountains call walkers, hikers and cyclists alike. Loch Earn is ideal for water sports and there are plenty of fishing, golfing, cycling and horse riding opportunities in the surrounding area. Speaking of horse riding, based on the farm there is an equestrian eventing facility, amongst 80 acres of wooded parkland, where you could tackle some of the 100 cross country jumps. If you prefer to stay on your own two feet then walking with the wildlife is highly recommended.

If all that outdoor activity leaves you in search of some retail therapy or a good night out, then the city of Perth is just 7 miles away. Here you will be spoilt for choice with places to wine and dine. You could even go to the theatre! A great way to experience the city is to take a boat trip on the River Tay (seasonal). This area has lots to offer, not least its many historic castles, including Scone Palace, Drummond Castle and Garden, Stirling Castle, Doune Castle, Hopetoun House and for fans of the TV series ‘Outlander’, there are numerous locations used in the making of the series. Edinburgh, Stirling and Glasgow are all easily accessible for day trips. What are you waiting for?

Sheeoch is a delightful, spacious detached bungalow in the picturesque village of Comrie, just a 10-minute walk from the village centre. This contemporary accommodation is perfect to unwind in after a day exploring. The enclosed rear garden is a great place for children to play in, or relax with a glass of wine in the large, bright living room and take in the superb views. The open-plan kitchen and dining area is a perfect place for everyone to sit together and plan the next day’s adventure.
The village, which is on the banks of the River Earn amidst glorious Perthshire countryside, has a good selection of eating places, local shops, a cricket club and one of Scotland’s most scenic 9-hole golf courses. There are local events, including Comrie Fortnight in early August and Flambeau New Year celebrations. From you doorstep, you can enjoy lots of lovely cycle routes and walks, and for the more adventurous, there are 43 munro mountains within a 1-hour drive. Loch Earn is 6 miles away, which offers sailing and water sports, and for nature lovers, the Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre is just 2 miles. There are many interesting places to visit in the area, including historic castles and gardens, and whisky distilleries. Stirling is 24 miles away, Perth 25 miles, Callander 26 miles, Glasgow 50 miles and Edinburgh 60 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

This lovely detached log cabin, with a turf roof, has been carefully furnished throughout to provide stylish and welcoming accommodation. Its mix of contemporary furnishings combined with the wooden walls creates a warm and inviting home, perfect at any time of the year. The high ceiling in the living room provides a light and airy feel, whilst the cosiness of the wood burner is a real delight on colder days. The living room leads out onto the patio overlooking the decking. Its idyllic location, amongst a variety of trees in a secluded position, yet within easy access to the village of Kirkmichael, makes it a real haven for relaxation. Watch the variety of wildlife on the doorstep - plenty of red squirrels, roe deer and woodland birds who love the peaceful environment, can be easily seen. The property really is a hideaway, accessed by a non-tarmac track and in winter, the track can get snowy and icy. However, the owners are on hand should you need assistance.
From the sloping 3-acre garden, interspersed with pathways, there are excellent walks through the mixed woodland onto heath and moor which opens up to breathtaking views, perfect for hill and dog walkers. In particular there is the Cateran Trail – a 100 mile circular walk through the Angus Glens and Perthshire. Winter sports at Glenshee Ski Slopes provide extensive skiing and snowboarding facilities, and are located just a short drive away. The popular towns of Pitlochry and Blairgowrie are just 13 miles equidistant with a great variety of shops, a theatre, fine dining restaurants, cafés and a distillery, all well worth a visit. Golfers can test their skills on over 30 courses in the area, and for the more adventurous there is mountain biking, fishing and horse riding. Throughout the year many events are held in the region including The Strathardle Gathering every August (Highland Games), The Etape Caledonia Cycling Event in May, The Perthshire Open Studios and The Blairgowrie Book Festival in October, which can be enjoyed whilst staying in this lovely property. The Royal Burgh of Auchterarder has a 1½ mile long high street, which offers a fine selection of quality independent shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants. For those who enjoy learning of the local culture and history, there are many castles, historic houses and gardens to choose from including Stirling Castle, Doune Castle and Drummond Castle Gardens. There are three whisky distilleries and visitor attractions close by, and with Crieff, Perth and Stirling only a short drive away, you’ll never be stuck for things to do. Just over an hour away are the cosmopolitan cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. If you prefer to leave the car behind, the local railway station provides links to all major towns and cities. There is an abundance of wildlife to spot, have your camera at the ready to snap red squirrels, deer, pine martens and so many wild birds including ospreys. In the winter, the hills are perfect for sledging or skiing on gentle slopes, and spring and summer brings longer evenings to enjoy the wild birds and flowers, and with very little light pollution, enjoy the stars in the night sky.
The attractive Highland village of Killin is within walking distance along a quiet pathway where you will find bars, cafés, bistros, restaurants, shops, a 9-hole golf course and the spectacular Falls Of Dochart. Killin plays host to events throughout the year including the Highland games and a fireworks display on New Year’s Eve.
This part of Scotland is steeped in history and legend. Acharn was once owned by the McNab clan and there are many other historic sites and buildings to visit close by including Finlarig Castle. If you enjoy the great outdoors this area provides walking, cycling and hill walking. Waterloo Farm House is a traditional, stone-built, C-listed, detached cottage with a generous sized garden, providing a wonderful place for couples, friends and families to relax and enjoy this excellent property. Set in the quiet hamlet of Waterloo, it is believed that the original properties in the area were built for the soldiers returning from the Napoleonic Wars or for the widows of soldiers who did not return from the famous battle. It is thought that Waterloo Farm House was built around 1815 and in recent times was a berry farm but is no longer a working farm.
This beautiful cottage has been completely rebuilt internally to provide a modern layout and was just completed in summer 2019, yet still maintains its original charm and character. The welcoming and bright living/dining room has large, comfortable sofas, attractive lighting and a wood burner ensuring this space is a cosy hub for guests to gather. Leading off from the living/dining room is the kitchen, equipped with quality appliances, and a breakfast area. There are stereo ceiling speakers in all rooms providing a shared sound system throughout the house or independent music from your Bluetooth enabled device in your own room if you prefer. The back door leads to a small patio where guests can enjoy breakfast or a morning coffee. There is a large enclosed lawned garden at the front of the property with a patio and garden furniture, ideal for an impromptu barbecue.
Waterloo Farm House is in a great location for exploring this picturesque area which you can do on foot or by bike and there are lots of footpaths and quiet lanes directly from the doorstep. The village of Bankfoot is just 1 mile away, with a pavement all the way from the cottage and is very handy for a local store or one of the two local small hotels with bars. The attractive town of Dunkeld is only 5 miles away and makes a great day out with its historic cathedral and buildings, and a good selection of quality restaurants, coffee shops, delis, interesting independent shops, galleries and walks along the River Tay. Birnam is close by and is one of the best preserved historic towns in Scotland. The Arts Centre is home to the Beatrix Potter Exhibition and Garden which is well worth a visit. Walk along the riverside and discover magnificent old trees in the Birnam Wood which was mentioned in Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The bustling city of Perth is only 10 miles away and is packed with places to eat and drink and has a theatre, museum, swimming pool and a great selection of shops including high street names and local boutiques. The railway stations at both Perth and Dunkeld have frequent services to Inverness and Aviemore, or you could be in the centre of Edinburgh in just over an hour without the stress of finding parking. Give your car a holiday too as there is much to do on foot from your front door. The local shop has a café and there are opportunities to indulge in some bistro style food or fine dining along with a good selection of wine and whisky. There are walks to suit all abilities from a gentle stroll along the loch side to more strenuous walks in the hills, and you can join the old railway route leading to Comrie. The local golf club, Sandy Lyle’s favourite small Scottish golf course, has a challenging nine hole course.
This area is the hub of many outdoor activities and ideal for tackling many of the Munros and Corbetts in the central highlands. Water sports, cycling, golf and fishing are all available in the local area and there is an abundance of wildlife to admire including deer, red squirrels and otters. Look out for the ospreys on the loch in season.
St Fillans and the surrounding area is steeped in history and folk law of clan battles, outlaws and fairies with many historic houses, gardens and castles to visit. To complete your Scottish heritage experience, visit one of the local whisky distilleries offering tours and tutored tasting sessions. Lochearnside Lodge is a good location from which to explore one of Scotland’s most scenic areas and a base to tour central Scotland. Perth, Stirling and Dunfermline are all within an hours’ drive.
